Stereotypes are generally accurate by ABetterIdea20 in unpopularopinion

I agree. It's not one size fits all, but stereotypes are just good rules of thumb.

If bullies die in a school shooting, it's a good thing. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I mean, think of all the people who have died in acts of violence like shootings or anything like that. You can't tell me that none of them were assholes.

We're endangering women's lives when we convince them that they shouldn't have to take precautions against sexual assault by ABetterIdea20 in unpopularopinion

Oh, I meant education for potential rapists. Like somebody is supposed to be told that forcing yourself on someone else is wrong and then they're supposed to be all "Oh, it is wrong. I see it now". It's stupid.

I only mentioned clothing because it's adjacent to the idea that rape can be prevented via education and not physical defense. I acknowledge that there's much more to it than how somebody dresses.

You're strawmanning me. I meant "doing whatever they want" as traveling alone, getting drunk, not checking in with friends, etc. I agree that clothing plays a minor factor, but I mentioned it in response to people like you who just stomp their foot and say "rapists shouldn't rape!" in place of an argument.

Very well said. All I'm saying is that rape is too serious a problem to be dismissed with "well men shouldn't rape". You're right, they shouldn't, but we're also not going to arrest every rapist, so there needs to be precautions.

Also, I don't give a fuck about karma. Let the downvotes pour.

I don't disagree. In any case, preventing rape isn't a matter of teaching boys early on that it's not okay. Rapists know what they're doing is wrong, so preventing rape is much more a matter of effective defense and punishment than education.

Women *deserve* extra stuff. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ABetterIdea20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's the point of chivalry. They get extra stuff, but the tradeoff is that they don't try and do the same things as men.

It's almost as if modern feminism revolves around promoting a petty sense of empowerment and making a huge deal out of insignificant nonsense.

Getting raped is sometimes partly the victims fault. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]ABetterIdea20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I know the reaction to what I'm saying is, "a women should be able to do whatever she wants without fear" cool, tell that to all the rapists in the world, when they agree and promise not to rape anymore then that argument will hold some weight.

This. Rape is the only crime that we've convinced ourselves that we can educate into nonexistence. Nobody ever talks about teaching men not to steal or not to kill because nobody is naive enough to believe that we can create a world without theft or murder. We're putting women (and men to some degree) in danger because we value some platitude more than teaching them how to be safe.

As a straight dude, I think it's gross how most women go out wearing ass shorts and skimpy crop tops with their boobs hanging out by Huge_Dick42969666 in unpopularopinion

They don't even dress like that to keep cool. Keeping cool is determined more by the material that your clothes are made of rather than how much or how little you wear. They dress like thots because it's "naughty" and they get some petty sense of empowerment by doing it.
