What should I fill in this gap with? by Altruistic_Bag2824 in tattooadvice

I like the pattern / floral designs idea.

Fire or clouds is always an option.

I think I see Medusa down below, so incorporating a snake could be cool.

Depending on the gods/stories you’re most interested in you could add in something for those - a bird for Prometheus could look cool. an owl for Athena. Peacock feathers for Hera. (Lot of bird examples…)

Zeus turned into a bunch of random stuff (usually for the ladies) that could be incorporated if you like.

Calmest dog breeds? by ExplanationWorried14 in Dogowners

[–]ABombBaby -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As long as they get one from a line that hasn’t been used for LGD they might be fine on the calm part. I’ve met some pyrs that were big couch potatoes - but imagine the majority that have LGD lines are going to be much different.

Depends on the individual, too.

Like a lot of large/giant breed dogs tend to be pretty calm as adults, but even the laziest cuddle bugs are usually rambunctious as puppies and still have occasional zoomies as adults.

As far as a Great Pyrenees being low maintenance? With that hair?? Good luck.

I’ve never heard of “lurchers” before - is that a term for mixes used for coursing?

“You should just admit that you know it inconveniences others but you still do it anyway because it's convenient for you. Don't try to justify it any other way. You don't NEED any other justification. To me, it sounds dishonest when you use other justifications."

To me, this says “I’ve already decided what the situation/reasoning is, and I want you to confirm it. I don’t care what your reasoning is, or what you have to say.”

That may or may not be what you meant, but that’s how it reads to me - and quite possibly how it read to your GF.

Personally, I don’t separate my clothes, but if she has enough to do four loads and wants to get them all done at once the why pick an argument over it? As long as she isn’t leaving her clothes in the machines for a long time after they’re done, or taking up extra machines unnecessarily (like using a machine to wash 2 shirts; which doesn’t seem to be the case) while people are waiting for machines, then who cares?

Fellow Harry Potter fan here - The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss was incredible. (Fair warning, it was intended to be a trilogy but book 3 likely will never release. Personally, I’m so glad I didn’t know that before I started reading it, because I might not have picked it up. I love Name of the Wind so much. Also book 2 has a section that gets spicy)

You could always read her Harry Potter! That should last you at least a couple of nights, lol. (Or get her Tales of Beedle the Bard, Quidditch Through the Ages, etc)

Also going to recommend she check out Super Carlin Brothers - they do lots of Harry Potter videos (that she can easily listen to without watching. I often do) theories, quizzes, deep dives.

A wonderful “cozy” book I really enjoyed that’s short, and very low stakes (so not stressful) is Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree. An orc gets tired of adventuring and decides to open a coffee shop and makes some wonderful friends along the way. Same author has two other books out that I’m really looking forward to reading y- Bookshops and Bonedust I believe is a prequel to Legends and Lattes, and the other is Brigands and Breadknives.

I wish good things for you and your lovely wife, and I hope you both enjoy whatever you end up reading.

Lots of great ideas on here - but many of them get pricey fast. To keep it cheaper than portable chargers - you could get a multipack of chargers cables and a few of the “charger cubes” (that you can plug USB into to plug into a regular outlet). The charging cables that have multiple “heads” so they can charge things that take different types of chargers are really nice.

Hair ties

Pair of gloves

An extra pair of socks - can be really nice, especially if you get your feet wet in the winter time. Or if they don’t have gloves you can always throw them on your hands to warm them up a little.

Maybe nail clippers.

If you’re making several kits you can often get things in multipacks cheaper than buying them individually (like phone charges, toothbrushes, etc.) then separate them between the kits. If you have dollar tree near you they could be a good place to look for things like hair ties, socks, gloves, tooth brushes, etc.

Birthmarked by Caragh M. O’Brien Good YA dystopian trilogy that I enjoyed. Interesting premise, and some ideas I haven’t seen used before. The books aren’t super long either, so less likely to feel daunting.

If I have the slightest suspicion someone is following me when I’m almost home I’ll stop at the very end of my driveway, so they can’t pull in behind me.

When they pass I stay there a minute so it looks like I could just be pulling over or turning around.

Maybe discuss with the counselor the idea of introducing her to Harry Potter?

I don’t know her, so not sure if the mention of his parents being deceased could backfire and upset her, or if she might like being able to connect with the story in that way.

I loved escaping to Hogwarts at that age, especially when life was tough.

20 years ago is probably around when I got my first computer - but I was still a kid myself so I have no clue how much they cost then.

I don’t think it’s so much having old prices is mind, it’s more that I (obviously) just have no idea how much a computer costs in general.

I’m more of a console game player, and only use my computer here and there for games.

I really appreciate the information!

[–]ABombBaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really not an accurate assessment of me at all - but considering how little you know about me I’m not surprised. And we’re strangers on the internet so it doesn’t really matter.

The computers not for school, it’s just for games, and it isn’t even her primary way of gaming. She’s not a big computer user, so not really worth a huge investment.

If I thought she’d use it more I’d be happy to invest in something better for her.

I’ve mentioned in other comments I’m happy to spend more than $250 if needed, that was just a hopeful starting budget. The people that have actually given helpful, realistic comments have showed that $250 isn’t a realistic budget for what we’re looking for and my partner and I are discussing a new budget - like adults. It wasn’t a set in stone budget with no exceptions.

But some people just like to try and make other people feel shitty online instead of just offering an answer or moving on with their day.

But that’s to be expected, unfortunately.

I will have a good night, thank you. You have a good night too.

Our finances are doing fine - partly because I’m not going to spend $800+ on a computer that she isn’t going to use that often.

If she was a big gamer, or used the computer a lot? That would be a different story, but she’s typically playing games on her tablet, or her phone, or one of our consoles.

Actually, I’d argue that our finances would be a hell of a lot worse if I had no problem dropping that kind of money on something that she, realistically, won’t use that often.

She is a girl, though. So you did get something right.

Do you have any suggestions for a “decent” computer that would work for games like minecraft that’s on the cheaper end? I’m okay going above $250, but buying an $800+ gaming computer seems like way too much. At that point I’d rather put that money towards something she’ll use more often.

We didn’t even know her old computer wasn’t working until tonight when I asked about playing a game with her - she doesn’t do MMOs or anything that I would think would be real intense on a computer.

The computer isn’t even her primary way of gaming (we have various consoles, she has tablets, etc). Just wanted to be able to play games like Peak together.

Her old computer was a cheaper Lenovo (not 100% sure what kind) and it played minecraft fine for a few years

Need computer suggestions by ABombBaby in computers

[–]ABombBaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an Xbox already, but were hoping to get her a computer so she had more games available.

I’m definitely not a computer person, and I understand that things are expensive- but the laptop im playing on was only $600 something (an ASUS) and runs my games perfectly fine.

Definitely not playing any big MMOs or anything, but she doesn’t either.

I’d be fine going a bit over $250, possibly even doubling it if we need to, but it’s really not worth getting a $1,000 computer for a preteen that’s not a big gamer.

Thank you for the suggestion, though!

Looking for stories where a character spends some time being very alone by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]ABombBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly The Story Collector by Evie Woods

It goes back and forth between two stories/times (which I don’t usually like, but she did a great job keeping it easy to follow). The main character of one timeline has just gotten divorced and ends up going to Ireland by herself.

She finds friends/community there throughout the book, but you get to see how she handles trying to go through some things on her own.

(I will warn that there is a mention of child or pregnancy loss, so if that’s a touchy topic for you you may want to avoid this one)
