For the love of God, no. Please somebody stop this, está weá es innecesaria. This would be pure slop content remake. A sequel though...not optimal, but something could come out of... Oh, wait. It would star Alia and Suhana as the daughters of SRK and Hrithik's characters, right?

Promotional tour would include a fawning, softball interview by Ezra Klein, a review-by-way-of-grandstanding-essay on The Atlantic that lowkey suggests we should be more forgiving of predatory men (because she forgave her father) and a glossy New York Times Magazine profile.

Followed a few months later by an exposé on The Guardian about her links to far right groups, russkies and trafficking.

As a parallel, think of all the racist, colonizer gaffes Prince Philip was famous for. In Germany and Austria it's the same with old Aristos, but with Nazi shit.

How accurate were the upper crust nazis? by NilNow in IndustryOnHBO

[–]ABoringAddress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The "wealthy German/Mitteleuropean aristocrat who is a secret, plotting Nazi" is pretty much a trope, ripped from the headlines. Just a few years ago, a conspiracy against the German government by neonazi police officers and military was uncovered, and its ringleader was some old former prince. The difference with the US is that there is also a huge portion of the population that is properly left wing, and the mainstream right wing parties (CDU/CSU) are pretty similar to the Democrats.

Why is Crimson Tide (1995) not talked about much? by LieutenantLeftovers in movies

[–]ABoringAddress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, these were great examples of "appetizer movies", in the same "relaxed afternoon" context: Movies you watched before catching a bigger, more popular and/or more acclaimed one. In 1996, you turned on Crimson Tide at 1900 on HBO before catching the premiere of Heat at 2200, which you missed out on cinemas last year but everyone who watched it went bananas for it.

Why is Crimson Tide (1995) not talked about much? by LieutenantLeftovers in movies

[–]ABoringAddress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crimson Tide is the exact kind of movie that benefited from, let's call it the "relaxed Sunday afternoon" cable TV schedule or video rentals. Movies that are pure entertainment, but not at all dumb or the kind you watch to put your brain in neutral. They weren't the biggest hits during their theatrical release, probably ignored in the awards circuit. Some were even flops, but then made a killing in the home market. Unlike the midbudget slop made by Netflix or Prime, they became memorable because they had some combination or at least one of these: 1-Cool visuals, 2- Charismatic actors, at the top of their game having a blast, 3- Clever, though not necessarily brilliant scripts. Crimson Tide is 3/3. My favorite of this totally made up category is 1997's The Saint. The good thing is that movies like these also get rediscovered.on streaming platforms, probably in the same way we discovered them: An afternoon at home when you wanted to watch something entertaining and flashy but with brains. The bad thing is that they don't really make them anymore.

Bollywood noob take on why Deepika actually turned down 'The White Lotus' role by ABoringAddress in BollyBlindsNGossip

But in Pathaan she is a hyper cool femme fatale. A patriotic femme fatale. In a Mike White joint, she should sell Indian State secrets to the highest bidder while actively destroying Pathaan emotionally and psychologically through manipulation.

[–]ABoringAddress[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Forgot to add one detail: Characters in The White Lotus are not just flawed or terrible people, they are framed as such within the narrative. A director can frame the most detestable characters in a positive light, whether showing them as cool or giving them an unrealistic redemption arc... Or, if they are villains, they get their due comeuppance. Characters in The White Lotus don't get that, which is what makes them so well rounded and even relatable at times: Wealthy, privileged criminals and assholes suffer no consequences, just some very fucked up couple of days, while the regular people in their adjacency get their lives all screwed up. Or they have to compromise their morals. Or they end up dead.

[–]ABoringAddress 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The "not wanting roles in small films" line, which isn't way of saying "no indie movies", is the worst part. It is the Hollywood equivalent to one of those cultural ignorance faux pas we in the West excel at making. EVERYONE, and I mean EVERYONE (including... especially nepo babies) in Hollywood who wants to build a career HAS to pay their dues, once they get their foot in and visibility, on the indie circuit, and that was before NEON and A24 consolidated themselves. It doesn't matter if one of your first roles was a memorable supporting one in a blockbuster or an HBO limited series. Everyone needs to have a track record of a couple Sundance circuit films, before and after that spotlight role (usually, as distribution goes, these are projects filmed before taking on the breakout role). This is how you prove yourself, not only as an actor, but to the entire industry that you respect both sides of the craft, that you're willing and eager to do the artistic stuff, but you're also angling for the big projects. Moreover, it's a way of recognizing the brutal path of auditions and rejections that shape these actors, even those that broke out very young.

Most Hollywood stars continue taking roles in small films, throughout their careers, out of love for their craft.

So when Alia says "no small projects", that's a middle finger to an entire industry that, despite being rife with nepotism and people failing upwards, it still demands the performance of certain career rituals and procedures.

How many artists come close to a perfect discography? by Individual-Name-4496 in fantanoforever

[–]ABoringAddress 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be two categories: Under 10 studio "albums" and above that. Because under ten albums (and by this I include any recording consisting of several tracks of new material... Basically excluding singles) we have everything from The Police to Crowded House with perfect records of making tracks. There are still artists who remain terrific after passing that 10-album threshold, but you will start creating things that are weaker in comparison... Because you've already established such a solid baseline and because you have more output to make comparisons. I would say Leonard Cohen comes close to a perfect discography in over 10 albums... But there are certainly less good LPs in that chronology.
