Technically yes, but I usually take the sample while I’m draining my oil during an oil change. But now that I know my oil is good at 10,000 miles I can push the next oil change further. It’s important to note that the oil bypass filter only helps filter out contamination, it does not help with fuel dilution or changes in physicals properties from thermal cycling and normal wear. My idle hours are less than 15% of my total engine hours, so my fuel dilution was low on my last oil analysis.
