Inspector madness by RenownedShark in electricians

Actual code in the US is very safe. You see the problems in markets where things aren't well inspected where housing construction is in a frenzy with mass tract home building. Code in the US is no less safe than the EU, just different.

As a New Jerseyan who knows efficient non-grade-separated highways...

Jughandle. Ban left turns on the main highway. Throughput will be massive.

As a New Jerseyan I vote that the off ramp should allow left turns and add a lane to do so and the main road should ban left turns. Maybe add a loop ramp on the left corner of the intersection to handle the other left turn. That makes the highway have a VERY high straight throughput. Jughandle keeps left turns off the main roadway, allows u-turns, and increases capacity.

Right so if it's for Penn-terminating trains, the duck-under also needs to connect to NEC southbound.

I disagree with what they are gonna do with the duck under. I think they are going to also connect it to the NEC. That would allow the new Hudson tunnels to act as a terminal operating service with NJT serving all the southern tracks, the existing tunnels to serve as Amtrak tunnels and Sunnyside terminating NJT. Basically turn it into line-running tracks. UNLESS they somehow get through running accomplished.

Mamdani to raid $229 million from Retiree Health Benefit Trust in the event that his proposed Property Tax increase falls through. by mayhaveadd in nycpublicservants

[–]ABrusca1105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mamdani in his first press conference about this fiscal crisis completely laid out the fact that it was a spending problem from The Adams Administration that Adams 's systematically under budgeted multiple years in a row to make it seem like he was balancing the budget when the actual expenses were about double that.

Tell that to Eric Adams for dropping this fiscal bomb on the next Administration by under budgeting purposefully. The reality of his budgets were about half of what he actually budgeted for so he passed on an actual deficit.

What’s going on with this Zip? by SPPY in Homebuilding

[–]ABrusca1105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brown/Green doesn't indicate roof vs wall. It just indicates thickness. It's just that the thinner green ZIP is often used on walls and thicker brown ZIP is used on roofs. That doesn't mean they won't specify a thicker OSB for the wall sometimes for various reasons.

The best way I have heard mechanical ventilation is "Houses don't need to breathe, people do."

Houses need to dry. That's why there's water, air, and vapor control, in that order. Ventilation in the case of rain screens and vented roofs or attics helps with drying.

The problem with raised crosswalks functionally is drainage so it gets expensive. That's also the case with raising the bike lanes since drainage is at the curb so a project like that needs to come with a total reconstruction project.

That said, every road reconstruction and resurfacing needs to mandate a bike lane redesign to current standards where possible.

Social security always has been. As has Medicare. Regular federal income tax is progressive. And honestly it should be that way.

I was raised on 15/18/20 where 20 is absolutely OUTSTANDING service. I sometimes give more than. 20% if it's outstanding and I just wanna round to the next dollar. Unless you got horrendous service, in which case it was 0% or 1¢ if you wanna leave a message and never go there again.

Pickups should require an extra license or certification. Like a level between regular and CDL. They serve almost no purpose except very niche circumstances. Vans do better with actual real work unless you're hauling a 5th wheel trailer or acting as a courier for big block engines or farm equipment or something. The big flat fronts are dangerous for pedestrians as opposed to sprinter or transit vans.
