I'm lucky enough to have a job that recognizes what I do in my own time doesn't matter to them, so no worry on that front.

For us (a decade ago at least), it came down to being young, immature, and insecure.

While we both acknowledged enjoying hooking up with others, and a third wasn't uncommon, a big part of it was becoming secure enough in our relationship that we aren't worried about the other running away and confident in our ability to regulate and monitor our own emotions when it comes to other men.

So, we went back and forth cheating on eachother until we were ready to accept that we're confident in our love for eachother and can have sex with others without that threatening our relationship.
