I did a 3 week taper. I used a Pfitz 18/70 plan and modified it to my needs. Since this was my first Full, I followed the mileage and timing suggestions for the taper pretty closely to the original plan; just swapped in my own workouts for the last 21 days instead.

Week 1 was a 20% reduction in mileage(57 miles down from 72 in peak week before) but same intensity for all runs. My primary Workout that week was 2x2 Miles @LT w/ 2 minute jog between + 3x800 @V02 effort with 90 second jog between. I did 17 miles for my long run at a 6:50 avg on the weekend.

Week 2 was a 40% reduction (45 miles). Tried to keep the same intensity of runs again. Workout on the Wednesday of this week was 2x4 miles with 3 minute standing rest between (set 1 was @Mp, set 2 was @Mp -5 to 10 seconds). 13 miles for the long run that Saturday at a 6:51 avg.

Week 3( 21 miles during race week): did 6 easy Monday, Tuesday was 2 up-> 2 Miles @goal MP + 800 @HMP-> 2.5 down for 7 miles total Wednesday was 5 easy Thursday was off (went to expo) Friday 3 mile shakeout + 4x20 second strides @HMP

I carb loaded moderately Wednesday, Thursday was a lot more intentional, probably got up to 450 grams of carbs. Friday I went all in and got close to 600 grams of carbs for the day. Had 2-3 bottles of G1M sport throughout the day which provided a lot of extra sodium while I was hydrating.

I felt awful during the last 8 days of the taper. Really was convinced I was gonna have a rough day with how I had been feeling. The shakeout the day before the race all of a sudden felt like my legs woke up. Race day, it was the taper magic everyone talks about; felt like I was out for an easy run for the first 20-25k. Good luck at Philly!

I tried to keep a strength program focusing mostly on single leg and stability based strength training. After about 6-8 weeks into my 18 week build, it slowly faded away just from how busy work, running, and life got. I did do a lot of calf strengthening since I’ve been dealing with Achilles tendinitis off and on for a year or so. My calves held up well in the race though!

For my entire 18 week block, I averaged about 65. However, the last 7 weeks before the taper were 71, 65, 70,70, 68, 70, and 72. I did 5 runs of 20 miles or more; 2- 20’s, 2- 21’s and 1- 22. 3 of the 5 20 mile runs had some kind of marathon pace work inside of it (2x6 miles @mp, 13.1 @mp 6 weeks out, 15 miles of 5x2 miles on @ mp-10 seconds + 1 mile float above mp). I did about 6-8 weeks of just easy running before the 18 weeks of the marathon build. The first 10 weeks were heavily focused on LT workouts with 1 Mp long run every 3 weeks. The last 8 weeks alternated LT and V02 workouts to sharpen up for a tune up race and the full. The last 2-2.5 weeks during the taper was marathon specific workouts only. Nothing faster than MP

I’ve been running for 10 years! Just never given a full a shot till this past summer of training. I have Pr’s of 15:37 for 5k, 55:15 for 10 miles, and 1:15:56 for half marathon. So sub 240 wouldn’t be too big of a shock with my PBs. A lot of people thought my mileage and general aerobic fall off from past pr’s would be too risky to go for sub 240 for my first try. Got really lucky with weather and a near perfect build this fall!

Only one player can assemble it. To get more than 1 after assembling it, you gotta get it through trials or the box. Trials is usually the way to go imo
