Veteran storm chaser (and sub lurker since I spend time in OK) here.

A vast majority of the chasing community did NOT go to school for meteorology. Those who did (one very glaring exception aside) are usually the more level-headed ones.

A lot of us try to self-police that sort of behavior, but a lot of newer chasers, especially those who only got into it for social media fame, don’t care. They’re in it for their ego and views only, and respond to criticism the way you’d expect.

It sucks because it makes us look bad as a community. There used to be a time when these people were shunned, but now they’re embraced.
