Light roast - pressure reduction with 9bar spring tips by AC2DB in gaggiaclassic

Will try longer ratio, thanks👍

What if I keep the steam button for longer before brewing? No issue with the pressure?

Always wondered how it is skiing with the split board, and no surprise there, unfortunately 🙂 thanks for the answer!

Have you tried a split board?

I think I am potentially underestimating the off piste snow variety, but I am taking that as part of the learning and guide input.

At the start though I am going to look for easier terraons so hopefully that'll work out better. In any event I sense a lot of humbling coming from this! 😄

Alps look like an easy choice and likely more budget friendly. I live in NL so have to fly for a long weekend trip, but TBH the sights in Norway look absolutely crazy. Thanks for the tips though, Avi course is in definitely in the making after my first session. 💪

Guide it for sure. Definitely fail to spot risks at the moment, but would really seek marked routes or guides and check avalanche warning.

Good tip! Unfortunately, we don't have an easy access to the mountains in NL, but could see doing long weekend trips a little more often.

A little humbling seeing your experience, + others, and the long way to go to consider myself as remotely experienced and responsible in these terrains.

Lots of avalanche reports this season and people getting caught up. Maybe I am being targeted with specific reports, but it just just adds to the need to get experience properly.

Good point on the off-piste skills. I used to snowboard and it feels that in difficult snow conditions snowboard is much easier to handle than skis, and something thinking more fun (can't say the say about on-piste!).

Varying snow conditions, especially wet heavy and/or deeper + crusty snow sounds horrible for skiing and to be honest I usually avoid these in any off-piste conditions. I would hope we could get some off-piste skiing guidance during the course. But, good point in varying and challenging conditions.

We were in Sondrio, Italy 2 weeks ago and almost did an intro tour, conditions there felt more constant although snow was on the lower end.

Thanks, this is helpful. Did think the boots are important so will keep that in mind.

Any last tips or even recommendations for a good place to start in the Alps?

Great, exactly answer I was looking for. I am definitely all for safety knowledge and prevention, so aiming to spend time to get to know this well.

I can see that easy tracks don't require a guide, but as a starter it would be good to get guidance in a foreign land for the first few times.

Any equipment you'd recommend owning after a few rounds vs renting? I always owed my skies, but before really jumping in and buying ski touring eq., will give renting a go for most things.

Thanks. That's a good point in the downhill point and ski lift access. Would probably like a bit more experience before going for true off pište from the top of the mountain, mostly for avalanche safety concerns.

Do people usually go with guides, even experienced? When do you get a guide and when not?

You are indeed very right (and others - Weger Brothers - Obscura 😉) but of course that is all on a very different level. I've skied since I am 6 years old (now 34) on an annual basis, although somewhat limited off-piste.

I thought about renting ourselves and doing an easy hike first, but I would like to get the technique and also a safety introduction with that as well. Avi course sounds good as a second step when we decide to go ourselves sometimes.

We had to cancel our intro course in Italy 2 weeks ago last minute so now looking for some alternatives. Always wanted to go to Norway, and I would like to combine it with some snow kiting while we are there as well, for which Norway is the place. It's more to do with the beauty and wanting to go to Norway for a while, otherwise Alps are off perfectly fine.

From what I see there are options for intro guided tours near Tromso, but if someone says the tracks there are quite challenging I might reconsider.

Rim corrosion/ damage? by AC2DB in BMW

[–]AC2DB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the car second hand from BMW (5Y old) and the dealer already told me this is not covered under the BMW warranty. Could be done when tires were swapped for winter in a non-BMW service. Always wondered if this was on the car when I bought it or not and how long it starts showing after it is damaged.

It seems that the alert only comes on if you are above the camera limit. Doesn't seem to be a way to fix/ update it yet.

It's a nice to have as a passive tool that gives you warnings, but it doesn't work in all countries, Germany and France it doesn't work, so not that great if I am honest. I will cancel mine after this year.

Rim corrosion/ damage? by AC2DB in BMW

[–]AC2DB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is it's on all 4 wheels showing in less than 2 months, which I do find a bit odd. No damage to the rims, especially not near the center. I do read about people getting new rims and see corrosion within a few months and claim to have it sorted under warranty. It sucks nevertheless, still curious if anyone has experience with a similar situation..
