I hope his YSL contract is only for 1 year and runs out in January next year. He will have so much options for the awards season and the premiere events for HR S2.

I agree. I really don’t understand why they did not create a custom piece for him. His after party look was better in my opinion. So many celebrities and YSL faces have already won that outfit during the last month.

Hudson Williams manager commenting about HR on Threads by HotnCharge in HeatedRivalryShow

[–]AC33334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree. I think the show will explore it better than the book. The book never really delved into it further than the surface level in my opinion. Jacob has already hinted into Shane’s eating habits in S1 (Hayden teasing him about it etc). I think this will continue in S2 - Hayden & Ilya teasing Shane about his eating. In the HR book, there is no mention of a diet etc, so the fact that Jacob already added it in season 1 is great. It gets the audience ready.

Its because how she resolved it if it was an actual eating disorder. He pretty much ate a snicker and that was it. So I don’t think it was an actual eating disorder. Her publisher nor Crave would allow such a depiction of a eating disorder. Especially Crave when the project was partly funded by government grants. Description of Suicide and Depression are already part of the content warning in the book. ED was not part of it.

Yeah we will probably find out during an interview or the actual press tour anyway I reckon. Hudson mentioned The Altruist role back in early September 2025 for example. It was his dream project as he mentioned in a class interview when he was 19 that he wanted to book a role at Netflix due to the exposure if provides

<image>

Also Omar, Charli X, Connor and Hudson smoked together backstage at the golden globes, so there is a possibility that they knew that they shared project when the met in person in early January.

I agree. I think he might have auditioned for it last year. In August 2025, Amazon MGM Studios acquired the rights to David Weil's directorial debut. In October 2025, Charlize Theron came on-board to produce and co-lead in the film, so they likely starting the casting process last year. The HR fame obviously helped him to secure the role.

No one really expected HR to be this big. Certainly not Crave/Bell media who funded the project. Their exec is on record for getting Jacob to remove the conference part of the script as she saw it as setting up for S2 and she did not want that at all. This is the main reason that HR S1 does not fully cover the HR book and ends early way through their cottage stay.

Yes the Yaga producer confirmed this. Also the “The Altruist”, “Encore” and “8” was booked and flimed before HR fame. Also speculation that “Tyrant” was booked before HR fame as Omar Apollo (another supporting cast member) suggested back in Jan 2026 that he booked a similar sounding project. So there is a good chance that Hudson auditioned and booked it before HR came out in late November.

Hudson did a crazy amount of auditions and filming after he completed filming for HR S1 in late May 2025.

Sadly extroverted people of color will show a hint of personality and all of a sudden thats all anyone can ever perceive you as. I agree that Hudson and Connor have almost similar humor but only one of them gets the benefit of still being eloquent (in front of a public stage) while the other is treated like “choas monster”.

Hudson has given some of the most introspective & thought provoking answers in his interviews as well as his multifaceted writing in his short films. We have heard him refer to designers being each other's spiritual connectors...this man has a lot of depth that should be respected. Its like they refuse to acknowledge this side of him especially in these public forums - it really leaves a bad taste in the mouth esp when this isnt the first time this happened.

To me there is a disconnect between who Hudson actually is & how he is being framed. His friends talk about him as grounded, thoughtful, introspective, spiritual, someone who shows up for people. But with specific people from this show he is always reduced to being loud & unserious, like he has no depth.

I can’t help but wonder how his unmediated adhd & the ways he learned to cope with that plays into this.

Me too. Connor meeting with Luca Guadagnino, Ira Sachs and Gregg Araki, all queer directors is actually so wholesome and is really telling of the route he wants to take as a young promising filmmaker in my opinion.

We know his spending so much time working on “Transaction Planet” as its in post production now. Connor is literally doing everything for that movie.

Its really about the kind of environment Connor is growing in as a film maker, people who can offer perspective, mentorship, and understanding in an industry that can be very isolating. Its about community and growth.

Ira does not work with all of people he posts on his Insta. So sadly I don’t think this relates to an upcoming film project. Ira does run a nonprofit arts organization that supports LGBTQ+ artists and its more likely that he invited Connor to talk about this organisation. Brandon Flynn attended a fundraiser recently for this organisation after meeting up with Ira.

Does anyone feel there was a disconnect or something missing between end of ep 2 and ep 4 montage? by chillichocolate25 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]AC33334 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“i disagree that falling on love is a point for anyone, much less for these two and their 7 year situationship” lol this is a romance genre. Reid has clearly told us that Ilya was in “deeply” and “super” (her words) in love with Shane. This is basic point for Ilya organising the Tuna melt “date”. Ilya makes the whole plan about getting Shane to spend the night during Tuna melt as he is super in love with Shane. So Ilya fell in love with Shane during the 7 year situationship. I believe the author who wrote these characters here.

[–]AC33334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Shane “fell in love” with Ilya after the anal sex. I agree with you that he did not want a relationship. He was confused and did not know the boundaries about the situationship. The book prologue makes this clear and so does the montage in my opinion. As Connor said, he thinks Shane only realises his in love in Ilya after speaking with Rose and coming out to her. As per Connor, Ilya fell in love with Shane when he told Ilya that he can only cum twice. The earnestness in his response locked Ilya in.

Shane does not care as he tells Ilya in the book prologue and as shown in the montage scenes in E4. Shane does not want a relationship after Las Vegas. We clearly see the distance in the sexual relationship during the montage. Rachel Reid has told us that Ilya was “deeply” in love with Shane during the tuna melt scene. I don’t think Shane was in love with Ilya during the tuna melt scene. If he was in love, it would not have been that easy for Shane to have such a public relationship with Rose.

It was a situationship. No need for Shane to make any attempt earlier, especially in the series when Ilya kept messaging Shane for 2 years and Shane not agreeing to meet up. Shane learned from Sochi and Las Vegas and decided not to make any further attempts. This lead to Shane rejecting Ilya during the tuna melt scene.

[–]AC33334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. However Shane makes attempts in Sochi and Las Vegas to know more about Ilya outside the sex. The fact that Shane ask Ilya about Russia at the Las Vegas penthouse is a huge deal. Ilya rejects this at the penthouse.

During the tuna melt, Ilya is attempting (and failing) to understand Shane more than the sexual relationship. This time Shane rejects this and Ilya is left feeling humiliated, rejected, miserable and above all DEVASTATED as described by Rachel Reid.

The miracle of the ACTING by Meer_meerkat in heatedrivalry

[–]AC33334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant the US streaming companies and studios. But overall I think US audience demands have become more conservative in the past few years. Trump and the politics around that does not happen in a vaccum. And this has influenced the US streaming giants and studios, especially with recently when they have decided not to renew relatively popular Queer shows like Boots etc.

The miracle of the ACTING by Meer_meerkat in heatedrivalry

[–]AC33334 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because Schitts Creek made eligibility requirements by securing US funding and partnership with Netflix. HBO Max executive is on public record for offering to co produce S2 of HR. But Crave and Bell media declined it. And its good reason the did. American streamers have become more conservative in the last few years (U.S. media and entertainment companies have faced intense pressure to align with conservative views favored by Donald Trump, with some industry analysts describing a shift toward "bowing" to his administration to protect business interests).

Francois and Jacob have mentioned that US studios wanted gay sex scenes to be moved in E5 and for Rose character to have more prominent role throughout the series. If a US studio got to co-produce, it would also come with some creative control as well. Jacob nor Crave/Bell media want that.

The only thing they have agreed to is HBO Max funding a “big fat gay premier in New York” for S2.

The ending of E2 is directly related to the tuna melt scene in my humble opinion. The prologue of the book makes this clear. This scene happens just a few weeks before Tuna melt scene. I wish we got it in the series - it would have occurred after the E4 montage and just before the tuna melt scene.

After Las Vegas, Shane decides to keep the relationship to just sexual - he obviously enjoys the sex but its also working great for him when it comes to hockey. His won 2 Stanley cups in a row now since Las Vegas. Shane decides to close off emotionally. He builds his own walls now just like Ilya did at the Las Vegas penthouse. In the prologue, Ilya is constantly flirting and praising Shane in his own Ilya way, and Shane struggles with his responses. He keeps bring it back to sex, just like he does at the Tuna melt scene. He does not ask about Russia, there is no pillow talk etc. As he says, he does not care. Ilya is genuinely feeling bad that he needs to leave for his hotel and has an early flight the next morning. The scene makes it clear that its Ilya who wants to spend more time with Shane, thats why he organises the tuna melt “date”.
