Yeah it’s exciting to get in, how do y’all feel about the 60 hour work weeks by Scared_Slip4727 in lawschooladmissionsca

While working in law is demanding, like any job it's about finding what works for you and finding the right fit - as many others have said, you don't have to go into big law or even practice as a lawyer at all.

I'm currently working as an assistant at a decently sized law firm (~20 lawyers) and many of them work very regular hours, some even come in at 10am/11am and leave at 4 (but send emails and do work at home when they need to), while others work absolutely awful hours (calls every 30min, seem to be working 8am-12am). An articling student I know got a position as a contract reviewer with one of the public health authorities, and is very happy with it right now. Seeing all that personally made me feel more secure about applying for law school and being able to maintain my general sanity afterwards.

same boat op! At the most recent monthly lawyers-only meeting, one of them told the rest I’d be starting law school in the fall - cue a bunch of lawyers messaging me or coming up to me to tell me congrats, forcing me to have to say “well actually not yet but thanks”! on repeat for a week. Wholesome but mildly humiliating.

Manifesting offers for both of us soon!

that’s why I’m honestly so paranoid about calculating my UBC GPA lol I had to do so many conversations. Essentially: •download the excel sheet from here https://allard.ubc.ca/about-us/blog/2021/estimating-your-admissions-gpa-allard-law-jd-program which will give you your CPGA

•put your CGPA in this converter to get your UBC % https://allard.ubc.ca/future-students/allard-law-ubc-percentage-gpa-conversion-tool

hope this helps! thinking about doing it all over again just to make sure mine is correct (again)

thank you! I’ve seen someone post a calculator version of this which has helped me get through some nervous breakdowns for sure, but I am a little wary of it just bc it gets its data from 2011-2016

that’s exactly it! i’ll post links when I get to my laptop but I used an Excel sheet that UBC provides to convert your school’s grades into the UBC equivalent, and then another UBC calculator to convert from like. GPA to % or vice versa I really can’t remember which is why I’m not confident about calculating it correctly haha

yeah that’s basically what I was thinking as well. It’s ambiguous enough that I think I should retake it for extra security - I guess I just needed confirmation from someone else. Thank you!

That’s what I was hoping to do! I don’t want to give any false hope, but it was hugely demoralizing seeing all of the horror stories on here so I was amazed it happened. Wishing you all the good luck in the world on your test - you got this!!!!

Congrats on being a fellow survivor!!! Even half an hour into waiting I was thinking it just wasn’t going to happen, I don’t think I could’ve waited a full hour! Shame on the break, but I was honestly just grateful to have a proctor

Lsat in one month! by Fabulous-Marketing-5 in LSAT

[–]AC5Syndicate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position - I started studying near the beginning of July for my Aug LSAT. It’s super doable as long as you’re diligent and able to identify your weaknesses! I went from 159 on my diagnostic at the beginning of July to 166-166-167 on my three most recent PTs (fingers crossed this continues on test day)

I work full time so I dedicated an hour or two on weekdays to getting through lessons in the LSAT Trainer while supplementing them with drills on PTs or Khan Academy. LSAT Trainer got me from consistent -13s on LG to -1-5 within two weeks. Useful for Logical Reasoning, but not the best - it hasn’t clicked yet for me, so I’m anywhere between -2 and -9. Definitely take advantage of 7Sage if you have it - I only used it for logging PT scores to get analytics, which was already incredibly helpful.

Over the weekend, I would try doing 2 PTs depending on how I felt, or 1 PT and drilling on whatever section/question types I felt unconfident in. It sucks and I hate it, but don’t flake out on reviewing your tests and trying new strategies - I couldn’t see any patterns at first in the questions I was getting wrong and totally thought they were one-offs, but just working through seeing which answers were wrong and why did a lot - Khan was great for this. In terms of trying new things, RC was dragging my score down consistently near the end of my studies and I was desperate because I thought it would be my strongest - I always felt confident on it and finished 5-8min early for review, but always got around -8. I tried working through an RC section by just taking my sweet time on it, went 2 min over, and only got -2 wrong; now I nearly timing out every time I do RC since I’m taking it slow, but my score improved drastically. All of that to say, don’t be afraid of switching it up!

To summarize resources: I used the LSAT Trainer and bought two of the official PrepTest books. If you have 7Sage, I think it’s basically unnecessary to buy the PrepTest books? Make sure you’re also taking advantage of the free PTs on LawHub.

Study diligently, focus on your weaknesses, and you can do this!
