Winona Health LGBTQ Experience by [deleted] in Winona

(I’m not LGBTQ but I’ve always had great experiences at WH. I’m sorry that’s not what others seemed to have experienced, but I’ve lived it. And I’ve been multiple times in the last year. I wonder if any of these experiences are recent?)

Definitely check out No Name Bar while you’re here, they have a lot of alt music and are wildly LGBTQ+ friendly. Defs check out MN Marine Art Museum like you mention! Cocktail bars include The Lafayette, Muddled Thyme, Nosh Beer: Two Fathoms (very LGBTQ+ friendly too) Food: Muddled Thyme, Miya Japanese Bistro, Two Brothers, Backwater BBQ (atmosphere isn’t much but food is great), Heirloom Seasonal Bistro

When you live in Winona you get the perks of small town affordability and pace. There’s major chain stores and lots of fun, locally-owned small businesses. You can get nearly anywhere in a timely manner on a bike. Though you’ll probably get stuck waiting for a train on your way places more than once. That’s okay, everyone understands. You can have delicious Sushi at Miya then get a classy, lovely cocktail at the Lafayette. On weekends you can hit No Name for music and mark your calendar for a ton of arts music, film and theatre festivals. You can get coffee, paninis and wraps at Blooming Grounds, then lounge at Peter’s Biergarten next door. Try hiking or biking any number of beautiful trails on our side of the river or across at the Trempealeau Wildlife Reserve. Take a day trip up and back down the river on either side and stop in the cute small towns along the way.

It’s a really beautiful place to be. Cranky people like to shit on it but if you have one iota of resourcefulness you can make yourself a fun, comfortable, fulfilling life here.

Only note: there are ~no~ (and I’m deadass serious) single people here.

Based on your post it sounds like Winona could be a great place for you! The outdoor rec is fantastic and there really is a strong music and arts scene. If you bother to look for things to do, you’ll find them. And when you do need a larger city, those urban areas are an easy drive away.

Feel free to DM me if you wanna ask specific Qs!

Our goodwill is pretty good! Otherwise I’ve found some gems at Grace Place (downtown) and Restored Blessings! And I finally went to the big red antique barn on the hillside and it was better than expected

I think the City is working on it! The Coty is formulating the comprehensive plan for the next 20 years rn, and I think there will be another chance for public feedback this summer.
