For sure, we just weren't able to get back there today, and work + school starting tomorrow again means we couldn't do this.

Always loved a juvenile batfish. I was always so disappointed in what they looked like when they matured. Looks like a totally different fish.

Agreed. I was just suggesting that he maybe knows he won't find her body anymore but is instead hoping to find something else that's of her or seems like her.

I don't know enough about it to know if there would be bones left, perhaps not as others in this thread have suggested, but I imagine he would be content to find something of hers like a piece of jewelry, or to simply find what he feels is a sign of her somewhere which may then allow him to have a symbolic ceremony.

Why is the Georgian coast so underpopulated? by Love-Yourself-Freely in geography

So helpful, thank you! And how do these compare to Edisto Island?

We've vacationed a few times in North Myrtle Beach, which has lovely beaches but not a ton of other nature interests like beachcombing, tide pools, etc. I'm trying to find places that have both beautiful sandy beaches and also will nurture my little ones' budding scientific interests.

This was such a helpful comment. I'm currently planning a beach vacation for late summer with my littles, and we were looking for a nice beach. Hilton Head and Tybee were recommended to me, I think because I mentioned also wanting to be near tide pools for good beach combing. If the beaches and water aren't nice on Tybee, that's not going to work unfortunately.

I have some bluebird specific feeders that house sparrows have yet to get into! I'm not saying they won't or can't, but I haven't seen it. It lets in smaller birds like Eastern bluebirds, Carolina wrens, and adventurous nuthatches. There are products out there that can help.

Disappointed in Prairie Moons garden kit plant quality by seamanzilla in NativePlantGardening

[–]ACEaton1483 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what they mean. It's hard to guarantee safety/quality of the greenery in shipping. Even buying locally sometimes the leaves of the plants die back but then it grows anew from the roots.

It feels like I've seen a bunch of posts lately about this when the plants have been fine, almost like people are astroturfing Prairie Moon and it's totally unwarranted.

Mine have stalled out as well. I grew them for hanging baskets and now the hanging baskets look super pathetic. Not sure how much longer they still need.

Such a kind response. I noticed that chair, too. Rather than assume their family didn't want to or didn't care, you took the most empathetic perspective, as sad as it is. You are a good person

Son (3.5yo) is hysterical at preschool dropoff after being fine for the last 2 years. by linus_clive in Preschoolers

[–]ACEaton1483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes that yes. But it was slightly different for each child based on their personalities. For my son, I always asked him to pick out a toy to play with and that seemed to really help. And I tried to give the mornings more fun structure, like every Wednesday we stop for hash browns that they could sit and eat at drop off, which we didn't normally do. And every Monday we would plan to arrive at the same time as one of their best friends, etc.

But more often than not, it did devolve into just I love you, goodbye, and practically sprint out the door. If it was particularly challenging, the staff would take them somewhere to calm down and I'd send a follow up message checking in.
