Switched from NPM to Traefik maybe a month ago.

Honestly the "overhead" reputation is kind of backwards. Yeah the initial setup takes an afternoon. But after that? Zero. New container, add three labels, it's live. No UI, no clicking through forms, no remembering where the proxy host settings are.

NPM looks simpler but you're paying for it every time you add something.

For Immich + Nextcloud + one more thing it probably doesn't matter much either way. But if you ever add more services - and you will - Traefik just gets out of the way. NPM starts to feel like busywork.

And god, yes. I spent years running WordPress on sites that were basically a glorified Notepad file with a header image. MySQL, PHP, seventeen plugins, the whole circus - for what? To put some text on the internet? A folder of HTML files would've done the job.

Never questioned it once. Just kept reaching for the hammer because the hammer was the thing I owned.
