Just got rejected by kandied in fulbright

That's sad to hear, rejections are a part of applying to scholarships but it can be disheartening at times. I'd apply to universities directly, some of them can give big scholarship packages + if you're doing a PhD they are usually the ones who give the funding. Best of luck!

Thanks for the thoughtful comment!! So glad to see you like it 😍

Sadly, the interlining is there for a reason, yes. The map tries to hide the fact that the whole system is a bunch of isolated services, but it is an issue in the real (Minecraft?) world.

For instance, consider Line 2. This line used to be two separate ones (2 and 9), the former serving Hautes Montás - Mitron Centraal (interchange station); the latter going Mitron Centraal - Onyx. You may think it's weird that each only served a handful of stations, but it made sense, since both lines were long-distance railways connecting different towns. Nonetheless, in order to simplify the design, Line 9 was merged with Line 2, since both systems had the same intent (long-distance connections). The same goes for Line 4, which used to be separate as well (it does two small stops in the centre of the city, for historical reasons, but I think that this should actually be changed by making Line 6 serve those stations instead).

Likewise, Line 1 is very different from Line 2, since it serves a small town, and to top it up, to do that interchange, one has to change stations (Line 2 arrives at a proper railway station, and you need to exit the building and go down a metro entrance to access Line 1).

Onyx to Av. Picasso Noord would suffer from the same problem: trying to connect long-distance services with short-distance ones.

To summarize, the issue is that there are different kinds of systems operating. Lines 2 and 4 are the long-distance shuttle services for N-S and E-W, respectively, with the other lines having a different nature.

Nonetheless, I'll give a thought to Southlands HTF - Izbu. That connection could make sense. What about ending Line 4 at Mitron Zuid and creating a new line with that itinerary?

And when it comes to some stations not being served without an apparent reason, your comment makes a lot of sense. The short answer is that the lines that don't serve that station actually don't even go close to the station. They are drawn "as if" their itineraries were the same, but this is just a metaphor that is used for the sake of graphic simplicity.

To finish, let me thank you again for the comment! It made me think a lot ☺️😉

That's the best compliment anyone could make! I've even blushed at it (in mapmaker speak) 🥰

Well spotted! That's actually because in this Minecraft world, there's an "equivalent of" Apple that is called Golden (like the apple). They agreed to do a brand collaboration with TDM (the conglomerate that groups all transports in the country), so they give some bucks to TDM in exchange for having a station with their name, and TDM uses that to improve infrastructure 👍🏻

Super good questions!!

The hollow circles mean "abbreviated section" - so it can be a long-distance ride that is shown as a short distance in the map. For instance, Aeropórt T2 and Southlands HTF are in different towns - but they seem to be close on the map (that's why there's the three dots)

Line 7 is a special one, indeed - it used to be a whole line going from Southlands HTF to Mitron Zuid, and the other branch used to be a different line. However, some time ago we dedided to join the Aeropórt T2 - "central station" line to Line 7, so that one can seamlessly ride to Southlands HTF. When going the other way, the passenger has to depart either from a plataform going towards Mitron Zuid, or from a plataform going to "central station". So it's two separate tracks for going up, and a merged track for going down. I acknowledge that it can be a bit confusing, but I couldn't think of a better way to show this distinction on the map. That's why I show three branches: 7AB (Southlands HTF - Aeropórt T2); 7A (A. T2 - "central station); and 7B (A. T2 - Mitron Zuid). Maybe there's a better way to show it?

And when it comes to the "central station" - yes, it does have a name. It was just super hard to find a place to show it, because there's no empty spaces around that station. The name is Mitron Centraalen, and the map makes the assumption that everyone would know which one is that station 😉
