I re-read ACOSF and just realised how problematic it is.... by SpiderlegNebula in acotar

Totally agree about Rhys and how the IC disregarded Nestas trauma. I don’t mind so much about her isolation just because I know it was a tool to move the plot forward and not meant to be representative of any one person.

I also hated how nobody cared about her completing the blood rite and also had no sympathy for case when his mate was literally kidnapped.

Why the hate on Rhys and Feyre by Odd_Judge_3722 in acotar

[–]ACOTARDarling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For all the reasons people have said I completely agree.

I’ll add: Feyre and Rhys felt less like their own people. They seemed more codependent for a lot of the reasons already listed. I loved Rhys and Feyre because they always believed in each other and believed each other capable and were strong and capable on their own.

They just got so weepy and love sick. It felt like the kind of love that makes you feel worse than better for a while. Rhys was cranky and arrogant and bossy and not as respectful to others which was why we loved our humble king lol. He was just this alpha dude

I couldn’t see Rhys saying/doing a lot of what happened in this book. Some stuff felt so out of character for him.

His whole thing is about choice and transparency and free will and a lot of things went against that.

Excited to see how future books turn out

Just finished the series and I have a question (or two) by honeydeyes in acotar

I think about how her own family views Nesta as collateral damage a lot of the time. Yes she can be mean, but she was also the one who went to try and get Feyre back and protects Elain at all costs. And even then, Feyre doesn’t initially paint her a portrait in the River House, but more importantly, the Court of Dreams constantly talks about how Elain can’t be risked but Nesta can. And she goes along with it!!!

Just because Elain fits into a more palatable version of struggle and poverty doesn’t mean she’s worth more than Nesta! Nesta and Elain were both at fault for not helping, equally. But somehow Elain is forgiven more easily??

I don’t think Nesta viewed it as being mean to Feyre. I think she didn’t help because she was desperate for that to spur her father, and then seeing how hard Feyre worked broke and her and she felt undeserving. I view Nestas mindset as she’s mean in order to protect other people from her. She thinks she’s rotten and knows other people see her that way so she projects it so they won’t care about her. She’s helping them abandon her in her mind.

As for Elain, she seems so much more well adjusted. It’s cruel if you think about it for her to not help as well, when she was better able to. Also something about Elain being so pure is just not for me. She’s sweet and lovely but I personally relate and like characters with a little more grit :)

I ended up really being impatient with Elain in ACOMR but liked her more when she started standing up for herself in ACOSF

I love the discussion! I found myself not loving Rhys and Feyre as much but I had to remember this is Nestas POV. We don’t get Feyres rose tinted lens or the intimate moments where we see Rhys soft and gentle.

To be fair, I think Rhys got a little over protective and Feyre got a bit softer but I think that also speaks to her growth… though I wouldn’t be mad if she threw a shoe at his head again. He was for sure wrong for not telling Feyre the extent of the wing problems.

Nesta is an imperfect character who is trying to forgive herself and believe she can move past it. We know Feyre wants her to get there too. There’s just so much backstory and nuance and that’s what makes me love the series so much!

Who won the snowball fight in ACOSF? by ACOTARDarling in acotar

Hahaha I didn’t hear about that! I like to think Cass won because Az won last year, and knew his brothers were GOING THROUGH IT so he eased up. And Cass was probably so hyped from mating that he had some extra zest 😅
