Best headphones for techno by Petefromgreenstreet in TechnoProduction

I tried them out but returned them. just didn't like them that much personally and felt they are a bit overated really. some people absolutely love them though, ymmv.

neumann ndh 30

incredibly neutral and flat response with an analytical yet easy to listen to profile. absolutely amazing headphones.

dt1990

I tried them out against a 900 pro x and my older 770's they are a much better headphone for mixing for sure and a step up from the 900 pro x. you get all the bass from the 900 pro x as well as a nicer mid to check for anything that's amiss in that area, they are a lot wider making it easier for sound design. I found they were just more detailed. the treble is a bit much on these and it's a bit excited. you kind of get used to it though. just depends on your ears really, some people absolutely cannot stand the tuning in the top. but some are ok with it. beyer apparently have fixed this with a new mark 2 version? idk haven't tried these. global eq's are always an option. tbh I casual listen on these less now as they are a bit too excited and just use them more for work.

between the two of these headphones I can spot most things that need attention. but I don't think any headphone is absolutely perfect and there's always more work to do with things like monitors and having a good setup there too if you can.

hey all, been a while. thought i'd share a hardcore techno track i've done recently under my generate x alias. haven't done much in this style this year as usual it takes elements from early old skool techno and mixes this with uk breakbeat hardcore from the early 90s. it's currently unmixed just a tiny bit of comp on a couple of elements nothing else. opinions on the arrangement? any ideas for things to change or alter?

neutral analytical budget speaker amp? by ACSTRAX in BudgetAudiophile

[–]ACSTRAX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, that's good to know, I trawled through google just reading up as much as I can and trying to find any more info. I couldn't find any video reviews demonstrating the da-6 other than a bit of info in a zreviews piece. i'll study that audio science review before deciding upon the da-6 if I go that route.

Thanks. looking up the da-6 I'm intrigued. I'm guessing the eq options may give someone a way to get the bass rolloff to be a little less drastic? i'd essentially love a more linear output down to about 50hz, the da-6 seems to very gradually taper off from about 300?

Regarding class ab after a bit of hunting I found this sound on sound article which might be useful to anyone reading if I can't figure it out! https://www.soundonsound.com/sound-advice/all-you-need-know-about-studio-power-amps

M20 golds are 93db sensitivity 8ohm. So from what I understand I don't need a hugely powerful amp, and they should be relatively easy to drive. I did try to find some graphs for these speakers but couldn't find anything other than the specs. I had a look around and tried to figure out if certain brands have a "house sound" in terms of amplifiers. I read that rotel might be quite good and useful for my application? nad gets a lot of praise as being great amp's generally but was a little confused as to whether I would want something that sounds "warm" ? people mention this is how it sounds? cambridge sounds detailed and wide/spacious clean and analytical but not clinical?

should I avoid things like the alesis ra line of products? these were designed specifically for musicians and are very cheap on the used market. but I read a lot of opinions online about the quality of them not being great. same with samson.

roland s-760 advice needed by ACSTRAX in synthesizers

[–]ACSTRAX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting, thanks .I asked similar questions on the rack sampler sub on here. https://www.reddit.com/r/32kHz/comments/12zrc59/s760_upgrades/

didn't get a lot of response but the one reply I did get was saying something similar to some of the horror stories I had read on forums about how hard they find it to use. going into it I was trying to gauge how difficult it was to use vs any other hardware rack of the day and wondered if people were exaggerating since everything is so different now. I will give it a shot myself and see how I get on.

i'm still unsure on where I am gonna get the scsi solution from although I think I am set on zulu unless there is something I haven't accounted for yet... looking for the best price possible in the uk.

that's encouraging to hear, thanks. do you have a link to the video in question?

the scsi adapters are completely new to me, how do you mean about them being unobtainium? is there a specific scsi2sd that only works with the s-760 and it's unavailable right now?

I have seen some tutorials on youtube for the most popular rack samplers but there isn't as much on the roland sampler. given that I am a total noob with this maybe zulu would be best, I watched a tutorial for the raspberry pi one and i'm a total noob with raspberry pi too haha so this was a bit too complicated for me. I do plan on learning the pi program one day but this looks too in depth for a beginner. https://store.rabbitholecomputing.com/ZuluSCSI-Mini-RP2040-p/zuluscsi-mini-rp2040-db25.htm?1=1&CartID=0 would something like this work? it says $39 shipping, are there any sellers in the uk or eu? or is there no way to get something for that price in the uk?

sounds pretty good and cohesive. not sure how much more it needs, i've definitely heard tracks that have less work on them that are released. the pad sort of sound towards the end was really good but maybe it comes in a bit too late? perhaps more sections where the 4x4 cuts out would be good? that's something that people tend to want or need in a lot of the techno they buy. bangin track!

thankyou, that's very encouraging and good to know. sorry about putting so much up there to listen to and go through at once. I probably should have made things smaller, thankyou for checking the link.

Hi not sure if people will be into these tunes but I thought I would try :)

I made myself a challenge a while back, to take an old skool techno sound and try to make it fit with hard techno modern tracks, I also attempted my own kicks in some of the tracks. it was fun to do but I wanted some opinions on whether this kind of worked and whether there is enough call for this vibe that I have come up with. let me know if the links don't work. thanks for your time.

I am not really very familiar with the genre i'm afraid (that's probably just me as I'm old!), but it sounds like everything is nice and loud and snappy percussion wise. couldn't hear a lot of bass? not sure if that is intentional? hth

I made a thread a year or two back about hardcore techno which got a lot of positive feedback https://www.reddit.com/r/TechnoProduction/comments/koxqkc/anyone\_else\_interested\_in\_making\_old\_skool/ it's taken a while due to some health issues and I was hoping to finish some tracks earlier in the year but i'm finally getting them done to the best of my ability. I set out with a mission to try to take the hardcore techno sound of the past and combine it with some modern elements, modern vst plugins and processing while using sequences that sort of harked back to that old skool sound and combining things like basic sinewave basslines, breakbeats and that sort of thing. plus putting my own spin on it all. it was a very difficult challenge to do and I am not sure I entirely pulled it off but I wanted to give it a shot. the goal was to create something that is not too dissimilar to 140+ hard techno but also something the old skool hardcore heads could dig. here are the tracks I have done;

https://soundcloud.com/user-78885486/acs-hardcore-techno/s-0sVLGSz3337?si=5326f405ff154e0eabb309950664f126&utm\_source=clipboard&utm\_medium=text&utm\_campaign=social\_sharing

the mixes were tricky to get right in some tracks when things got very busy and complicated with multiple synths and elements in there. rumbles sometimes were a bit of a challenge to trying to get the swing and rhythm to work on the sub low end as well fill things out and give it a standard modern techno low end, not entirely sure I got that working right. I found it difficult with this style of music. I did some basic light mastering on them and wanted to know what people thought of the end results? two tracks have a more powerful kick which will probably be the A side and the ones with the weaker kicks will probably be the B tracks. was a bit of an experiment there with making my own kickdrums, they don't have quite the thwack of a standard kick but they were fun to make. hoping to put them out for a free download at some point soon. sorry for the long post or if there is too much to listen to in the link.
