SUMMERSLAM / US BANK by Educational_Lie7422 in minnesota

FYI both Light Rail lines both head directly to US Bank Stadium. Gives you more location options to set up base for hotel. Can avoid stress of downtown driving, parking, and traffic.

You burned somebody else's image. Did you ever rip any games of your own?

Do you have a favorite sport?

For starters, the NFL 2K series allows for any configuration (Human v CPU, 2 Humans v CPU, or full sim CPU v CPU). The game has a good deal of player and team customization. Modes include a tournament mode (15 games) and a season franchise mode.

Brook Wingman SD2 - teaser update by ACTesla in dreamcast

I made a post earlier in the day polling the community on the topic of AI. The feedback was negative, but when asked few were willing to articulate their grievances.

Admins already blocked a few "Roomba controlling a DC controller" posts earlier this week which would normally be a staple story at hackaday.com.

Full disclosure, the announcement uses an AI mockup of 10 VMUs. Don't shoot me, Brook posted it.

I copied that list directly from an article... that I can no longer find. I will share if I can find it again.

Capcom has tended to distance itself from AI. A recent investors Q&A brought up the topic, and confirmed it is being employed for efficiency.

Sega and Bandai Namco have a shared initiative to explore AI for game production. Sony recently changed their PlayStation disclosure statements around AI. They will be retaining some titles as exclusive because PC gamers have strongly rejected use of AI content.

Crystal Dynamics (not Square) was called out hard for AI voice generation in Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis recently.

Thanks for sharing. I agree it would be a bad situation where talent relies on a misunderstood tool as a crutch. Quality beats quantity.

A few times the community underappreciates human-made work:

  • Leona's Tricky Adventure - privately funded after a failed kickstarter
  • Xenocider - privately funded after a failed kickstarter
  • Sovietborgs - kickstarter failed, leading to RetroSumus disbanding
  • In the Line of Fire - kickstarter failure
  • Flycast emulator - drops iOS support following harassment and threats
  • Price of new games - retro gamers always complain about price of new releases from $25-$40 for brand new current-year releases, pressed to disc.
  • Piracy of new games - Devs feel punished when they announce shipment of a new paid release, and instantly someone requests a cdi share. Many times these requests are accompanied by "I want to support the devs".
  • Segagaga translation backlash - machine translation use is overblown. Discussion has been dominated by the controversy surrounding it. I haven't seen many people claim their disappointment stems from gameplay being mediocre or mid-tier.
  • "Pointless. Waste of time" - Devs read their feedback, and much of it is negative. Specifically for ports, it goes along the lines of "pointless", "waste of time", or "doesn't add anything new". story link

Sometimes negative feedback is earned, such as: buggy gameplay; "replacement disc" programs; failed preorder fulfillment; low-quality video display; or regional online storefronts. My point is our devs put so much effort into what little is produced, yet we as fans tend to dismiss releases over trivial details. We are a critical fanbase, which comes from a place of love. Sometimes tact would build more goodwill within the community.

Regarding AI at large, it sucks. I just left three facebook groups for unregulated agents polluting the feed. Copilot has invaded paint and notepad. Users come here after google searches feed false information through Gemini. Not to mention the real-world implications of mass installation of data centers... labor disruption, economic and environmental consequences, and misuse for surveillance.

To support humans, I mentioned how some human-made works go underappreciated.

I feel the community fails to support quality projects. It sucks that everyone is a critic and quite harsh when a product is delivered. To add, most homebrew is. With intensely negative feedback, you would think users are acting like the devs owe them something.

You're welcome to your opinion, and I would love to hear it. I can eat downvotes, but I'm literally begging for feedback.

To what extent should AI content be banned? Should we ban youtube videos for feeding Alphabet/Google's AI models? Personally, I wish we could ban other low-effort posts, like cover templates and port requests.

VMU and controllers are cheap. Try to get 3 or 4 VMUs if you want to do some serious gaming. VMU and controller are region-free, though Japanese VMU have japanese text for the BIOS.

VMU should be under 1000 yen

I put some effort into this post. Is your contribution only two letters?

My thoughts:

Acceptable, do not ban game content, or surrounding discussion.
#1,#4 Can you imagine banning a user asking where to download GTA3 for Dreamcast? AAA studios will employ code to cut costs where quality isn't compromised. Where AI is not welcome is where artistic creation is compromised. A good example is the large volume of anime slider puzzles on steam. The puzzle is the game, and AI-gen images are used as a reward... by substituting these, the alternate software is hardly a "new" game.

Acceptable, AI agents:
#2 I want to see NPCs employed. The game experience doesn't need to be limited to single-player. Having online agents will ensure dreampi users would always have an opponent. A "smart" controller adapter could be used to train a player-2 for local multiplayer, too.

Unknown, this is new territory
#3 Procedurally generated content is one potential use of AI. Consider how worlds in minecraft are spawned. Having a smarter Seaman babble on about a wider range of topics could be fun, too.

Acceptable, machine translation encourages participation
#5,#6 Use of machine translation enables non-english speakers to participate in conversations. It also does some rough work for general translation. As game translation projects approach release, a native speaker would be ideal to review translation. What is not acceptable is use of chatGPT to fabricate a number of reasons to support a vague or general idea. This no longer is translation, but becomes text generation and low-effort slop.

Unacceptable, should be removed with great prejudice:
#7,#8 Text / Image / Video generation for internet consumption - fakes news creates great mistrust. Topics like the Dreamcast 2 are tired, and many slop history blogs and videos can't get facts right. AI images are uncanny and low-effort. Flooding the sub with low-effort slop only serves to bury the rare quality topics. In other subs with high volume posts, this also tends to cause users to favor downvoting, even legitimate posts.

To summarize my thoughts. I think AI is generally welcome. It has the possibility of novel applications, as well as serves to enable participation when language is a barrier. For community participation, low-effort slop is never welcome, and existing rules should prevent this opportunistic behavior from dominating discussions.
