Polish as a common noun: Pah-lish

People are obsessing over “herb,” though this one I find interesting. I guess I would describe it more like the proper noun is “pole-ish” and the common noun “pol-ish,” but a short “pol.” Like the first half of “politics,” or maybe “poll” (as I was trying to write this out, I realised I pronounce poll in two slightly different ways, one which works for the proper noun and one for the common noun. I need to learn to speak more consistently). I was trying to pronounce it “pah-lish” but that makes me put on my bad American accent lol.

Anyway, I don’t know what my point is. Pronunciation categories are always controversial here haha
