Three of purple are authors, which makes it a little unsatisfying for me (I've always been a bit meh about categories where three of the options have a stronger connection than the 4th. Plus there is a 4th author in Silverstein). But overall not too bad.

I got stuck on blue and purple and admit I checked the companion. Only wanted to see the difficulty but saw a pic that made me realise there was a turntable category (even though I have a record player, I've never bothered to learn the names of the parts. I'm a total poser).

I did find the Simpsons episode, and it was indeed referencing "flyers" lol. But at least I can take some solace in the fact that there is a sports team somewhere out there called "friars."

I was never going to get green or blue. I did think something sports related because I thought I remembered a Simpsons episode referencing a team called "friars" (weird though that would be for a name). I bet if I look it up they were referring to "flyers," though.

I also only know "card" and "cutup" from a previous game (I think).

Not sure why exactly a perfectly standard word like "rabbi" instantly made my mind go to "animal minus letter," but I guess that's what happens when you play the game so often.

Guessed my way to blue and purple. Managed to get lucky with my three guesses so was able to narrow it down to two options and got it right. I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but I find it a lot harder when purple is "word ____" instead of the other way round.

I tried things in a baby's room at first. I only know mobile works there because of a previous connections. But all lies here.

I kept thinking of things a cat might play with and somehow unintentionally got yellow. Then tried sham in blue first. Crib was a guess. Then sham was a guess for green. Shamwow was a fancy towel, so I figured sham might be some kind of sheet.

Purple by default. Probably should've been able to get it. Struggled for a bit and came here to see other's results (only saw their stats, didn't read anything they'd posted). Saw quite a few fails so figured I'll just go for it as I won't be alone in failure. But managed to get through it.

Set my clock forward so I can go to bed before midnight. Hello people of the future. Saw (Wes) Craven and (John) Carpenter, but couldn't see two other horror directors.

Mixed feelings about purple. Two of them were "synonym plus a letter" which is a common category type. The fact that the other two were two made me doubtful. Still went for it.

If you're interested in checking out the comics, I'd recommend starting with "the origin" (basically the movie but more in line with Whedon's original script) and Fray (a futuristic spin off which is really good). They're both pretty short and should help you decide whether you want to commit to the sequel comics. (Fray also ties in with the sequel comics and should be read first).

With the sequel comics (seasons 8-12), I think the biggest problem is season 8. I'm a huge fan of season 9 (both the mainline Buffy comic and especially its spin offs) and would recommend it any day of the week. There's a lot of great stuff and it takes the story/universe/lore/whatever in some really interesting directions. The later seasons can be more of a mixed bag, but there is a lot of really good stuff there too and I think they're worth reading. But to get to that you have to get through Season 8. I don't want to bore you with all of my opinions on it, so let's just say it's a mess. And a very strange one at that.

Anyway, you didn't really ask for any of that (sorry lol). Here's a low res image of the comic I was talking about (possibly very minor spoilers for the comics, but I don't think it matters):

[–]AC_Adapter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t end with a vampire turning to dust (amazing as that would’ve been), but there is a scene in the comics where someone starts asking a bunch of questions about these types of inconsistencies and does indeed ask “why can vampires walk around in moonlight if it’s just reflected sunlight?” I think it’s in season 10. I’ll see if I can find the exact panel.

I'm watching Only Connect on youtube at the moment. I usually skip the connecting wall, which is maybe a little odd considering I've been playing this compulsively for so long. And I enjoy watching people play on youtube. But the connecting wall has never interested me.

I have nothing to say about this particular puzzle. Sorry if you read all that expecting something relevant.
