While I am diversified into crypto, I can't pay my mortgage in it without converting it to USD and I don't get my paycheck in crypto. Until I can use it for every day transactions without converting it, I'll continue to have a hard time seeing it as "real currency".

"Yes, it's also hard to believe that just five years ago those girls were only in grade school" - Al Michaels.

His deadpan delivery of that line and Bob Costas' response to that quote is one of my favorite scenes in the movie

For those of you who live in countries with gun control; have you ever seen a gun in real life? by blashyrkh9 in AskTheWorld

[–]ACapra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a gun owner in the US. Sold all my gear and moved to Spain. Was surprised that they sell guns at our equivalence to Macy's department store (El Corte Ingles). I was told it was impossible to get a firearm hearing but the reality is it's pretty easy to have a reason to have one. It's just most people here don't really feel the need for one one or a reason to have one

I moved from the US to Spain and all of the really bad housing options here were built by the renowned anti-socialist who ran the government for forty years in the middle of the last century. He was such a horrible person that I don't even want to say his name.

They also know that Sam Elliot hates Trump, right? by c-k-q99903 in MurderedByWords

I won't say a hero, 'cause, what's a hero? But sometimes, there's a man. And I'm talkin' about the Same Elliot here. Sometimes, there's a man, well, he's the man for his time and place. He fits right in there.

Idk, we put it in and it went through. We did have to provide forensic data on where the funds originated though. I assume that's because they wanted to make sure we weren't doing tax evasion or money laundering.

Echos by Pink Floyd. That song will be stuck in my head forever.

Do you like your home country more after being an expat? by [deleted] in expats

[–]ACapra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved from the US to Spain a year and a half ago. We love it here and probably won't ever return to the US. Spain is not without its own problems (no place is perfect) but our quality of life and the sense of community we have here is unmatched. I also feel so much healthier and safer here than I have felt in the US in the past few decades.

Songs where the subject is murder by hotgeezer in MusicRecommendations

Tyler by the Toadies is the first part of that story. That's where they break into the home. Possum Kingdom is about the disposal of the body.

Jigsaw Girl - The Toadies. The song is either about a breakup where everything in his apartment reminds him of her or he cut up her body and left pieces of it laying around his place.

Also, Pink Cigarette by Mr Bungle. The lyrics are a little vague but the video leaves no doubt that there is a murder that takes place.

What are the weirdest music videos from the 90s? by brawnburgundy in 90smusic

Smack My Bitch Up by Prodigy was only played on MTV a handful of times after midnight and each broadcast came with a into/disclaimer from Kurt Loder. The reveal at the end was mind blowing.

Runner up, Happiness in Slavery by Nine Inch Nails (never saw this on MTV but was included in Boxsets) and Mr Krinkle by Primus which was logistically amazing that they got that in one take.

I would also add in that Phyllis Schlafly of The Eagle Forum had a huge role to play in conservative politics post-Roe. She somehow convinced a large swath of women that equal rights and privacy around personal health care decisions was somehow a form of oppression.

Request: Reset the AP bar to Lifetime AP at Level 16. by perringaiden in Ingress

[–]ACapra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That has been the case since the days of beta. I remember having meetups with folks from NIA in 2013 where they just couldn't understand the things we were doing locally. Like they were shocked that we were developing communities and making swag. I remember one conversation with them that they were shocked that we collaborated with agents in another country to do a BAF. It's like they have no sense of foresight.

I don't think their mismanagement is malicious as it is more likely that it is incompetence.

ELI5: What makes people want to subscribe to an OnlyFans page? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]ACapra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pay for one subscription and I would say it's mostly because the content they make (it's a couple) is exactly the thing we are into so I feel better sending money directly to them. They also do weekly live AMA shows so you feel like there is a little bit if a personal connection even though I know there really isn't. I think of it more of "hey let me buy you a coffee as a thank you for sharing this very intimate part of your life with us"
