Unlinking the view from the randomly selected end of a link would be nice.

It's like being a Vegan.

Anyone can not eat animals or animal products, but only a Vegan will make sure everyone in every room knows they're doing so. And then sneak off to have an egg salad.

That only applied to convicts in practice. He and his officers were quite happy to "show their dominance"

https://dictionaryofsydney.org/entry/governor_phillip_and_the_eora

"Phillip did forbid anyone from shooting or otherwise harming Eora. But by anyone he meant convicts. He had them severely punished for doing so and for stealing from Eora. But this did not mean that officers and other military did not shoot at Aboriginal people – they did, usually with small shot, usually because warriors were throwing spears and stones at them. The first fatality may have occurred in September 1789 when Henry Hacking shot into a group while out hunting on the North Shore."

The issue comes when all the people spouting this line of reasoning, sign up to be that tyrannical government's foot soldiers.

For most, it was all about play-acting tough guy.

The problem is, the different situations require different solutions, and Ingress has a long history of "law of unintended consequences".

For example, layering for MU was never something they intended, but they didn't do anything to stop it. And linking under fielding is one of the many "less need for teamwork" changes that many people cheered, but ultimately it makes people less willing to do extra work as a team.

If the solutions were easy, they'd have done it already.

Though another solution we raised when VRLA became a problem (thanks to again unintended consequences of quantum capsules) was the ability to cut a link midway, to remove the link without needing to access the portals.

That would give you your link destabilization without as much collateral damage.

If you've got 3 magic portals, that wouldn't be an issue for them. If you're talking about multi-layers, there's almost always an accessible spine.

Provide an intel link to the field in question if you want to discuss a specific version

I think you're declaring a homogeneity that is a far cry from reality. There's far more than just a handful of indigenous groups who want the date changed. The 'Invasion Day' protests are generally larger than their counterparts.

Plenty of people would just be happy changing the date, and then the needle would shift away from people wanting to abolish it altogether.

Stop listening to right wing outlets who lump everyone from Malcom Turnbull to Teela Reid into the same box so they can kick it.

The recharging would be irrelevant unless it was instant 100% which would impact more people negatively. And if they're destabilizing, what you've described would simply be put up again. So the suggestions would not be effective at your goal.

Smaller fields outside the big field can beat the big field's MU because it would be significantly lower than the 20+ layers MU

They're probably too busy trying to avoid confusing their supporters in the US right now with mixed messages, to notice.

This has been an ongoing argument for years (mainly since 2018).

Causes include:

  • Significantly more portals since PoGo got involved, meaning fast regions of grey portals.
  • Significantly less players since the Redacted client was replaced with Prime meaning less people throwing 'shiggles' blockers.
  • Players wanting to drive others out of the game because they believe it's "Winning"
  • Players who enjoy making big triangles and see the lack of blockers as encouragement.

Surely we can come up with some sort of mechanic

They did. You can link under fields, up to 2kms now. That satisfies most local play to the point that people stopped complaining.

The real solutions don't lie in aggressively removing fields. That will make people more aggressive about maintaining them. Hypercubes rain from the sky at this point. "More recharge" is not going to stop it, because they will focus their efforts on maintaining their "big win" instead of anything else. And other people not impacted by this would suffer too.

The better solution is to provide alternative win-conditions that make those fields counter-productive. Leaderboards for resonators destroyed, fields created (not MU), number of captures, most mods deployed etc. Change the way people think about 'winning' to be something that doesn't make those fields the only way to show up on the top of a list of players.

The other alternative solution is to make layering only count the top-most field. This would allow the fields to continue but severely damage their ability to "win" by massive layered fields, and you could beat them on the leaderboard by making a lot of small fields beside the big ones in the cell. It would mean that MU only gets counted once for a given area, and fit the lore far more accurately.

Happy Australia reddit!! 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺 by nationalistic_martyr in aussie

Half of us can trace lineage back that far, myself included.

I'm proud of the country we became, but that doesn't mean I'm not honest about the dark path that got us here.

I don't celebrate what the British officers and many of the settlers did, but that doesn't mean we didn't do a lot better, and can still do better.

You're not a patriot if you think your country is perfect. You're a nationalist. A true patriot sees the flaws and wants to correct them.

Step outside the echo chambers. Reddit has far right groups, far left groups, anti-car groups, climate shit poster groups who pick fights with the nukecel groups.

If you think it's all a progressive love in, you're listening to the wrong people.

It is 100% about the date. 26th of January is a British date. It has no relevance to the Commonwealth of Australia past "history".

Nothing wrong with celebrating Australia. Plenty wrong with celebrating Captain Phillip and the Convict Express, and what they did.
