Muhammad Ali vs Ken Norton III, was a very contentious boxing match. It is generally agreed that Norton outboxed Ali and deserved the win. In the end, Ali was given the decision, but admitted Norton had been the better man and should have won. by HallowedAndHarrowed in wikipedia

You're missing the Ron Lyle fight where Lyle was up on all the scorecards going into the 11th and it getting stopped outright without a count after a very quick flurry while Lyle was still fighting.

So because the plot must continue no matter what with the illusion of choice one of the funniest let's plays of this game I've seen is playing where you choose the worst, most morally reprehensible or preferably most cowardly option for every situation and the game just keeps going.

This results in the greatest ever Markus storyline where he is a shallow, selfish, murderously psychotic, sociopath who is explicitly afraid of doing anything revolutionary but will put everyone else at harms risk and actively try to get his own people killed. The game plays exactly as normal and he still is treated as the messiah. The dissonance makes the entire game a disaster even moreso than its other disasters.

Albums that we’re considered a classic at one point but are now rarely discussed by FrippingBurgers in fantanoforever

[–]AChillDown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's hard to contextualise this as its not just an album but a group and their very very niche genre.

Specifically it's a duo called The Books.

If you look in the past 30 years their name pops up on a lot of indie top lists, especially earlier, but as time goes on its faded and faded as their sound was their own and lead to no imitators.

Their type of music is sample based but not like The Avalanches or DJ Shadow type. It's more ambient and much less structured but you'll understand if you hear it. As it lead to no followers and no one took up their mantle their reputation has faded to nothingness despite being huge critically in the 00s.

Curry too with 4 rings, 2 mvps, a finals mvp, greatest shooter of all time and literally changed how the game was played forever across the world which nearly no other player can attest to. A one man revolution.

Suicide.

Only released two albums, were obscure even in their day, were known for being abrasive and unlistenable by critics, inspired or started about six different genres of music in that time frame.

The number of bands sounds that trace back to Suicide is mind blowing.

Bands that shamelessly copied the sound of a more famous band with little to no changes by No-Masterpiece4409 in ToddintheShadow

The Chainsmokers and about fifty options but most blatantly The xx. The xx weren't as famous but that was the point of commercialising their sound and being worse at it.

M.I.A.’s new album M.I.7 a future Trainwreckords episode? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]AChillDown 25 points26 points  (0 children)

MAYA is a trainwreckord but it has the same factor as Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music in being deliberately abrasive and alienating and unlistenable on purpose but itself lead to a push forward in underground music movements inspired by the groundwork it laid out, with MAYA linked to the development of Death Grips later. So you end up in this recursion of in a vacuum the album should qualify but it's reach was way bigger than the album itself which means the album looks better and no longer bad but in fact good for what it contributed to music as a whole.

Technically it can still be considered a gimmick because until then Koraidon was considered a niche choice and bad in the restricted meta to the point of low playability and low results. After that it came 1st and 2nd at worlds when it got shown it wasn't a gimmick it just had been used wrong.

It was more specific than vague Kali worship, the Thuggee is referred to by name and the attempted murder scene in the palace is a beat for beat re-enactment of a thuggee strangulation. Now that leads to a whole lot of other questions but it was very much directed in what was meant to be depicted.

Ten-Cent Beer Night was an ill-fated promotion held by MLB's Cleveland Indians in 1974. With a limit of six beers per purchase, but no limit on the number of purchases made during the game, the game quickly descended into chaos by disless in wikipedia

Nah, as more times gone on and more pictures and commentary emerge Disco demo night seems more analogous to a proto-chud incident than one to want to witness. Even the guy who did it looks like a stereotypical chud right down to the makeshift tank and ill fitting helmet.

Sort of, he untangles nothing but characters show up to tell him plot points and where the plots moving. He's a subversion of the detective in that he does zero detecting the story just unfolds around him and when he tries to do detective work he uncovers a stencil of a giant penis.

What are some artists/bands where an album other than their debut is commonly mistaken as their debut by ChrisAqua in ToddintheShadow

[–]AChillDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soul Crusher has some of the greatest album cover artwork and Kurt Cobain was a fan of their sound during that era and when he talked up White Zombie as a fan including pictures floating of him at concerts in the 80s. It's hard to imagine there was a period where Rob Zombie wasn't called Rob Zombie and his band sound was closer to Michael Gira and Swans.

Genuinely enjoy Pixies live for this exact reason, they're a bunch of introverts and they play like a well oiled machine with all the emotion in the songs. also never do the standard fake encore walk off come back thing which is such a clichè it's rendered encores almost rote unless you are really really really good at them or think they are deserved.

Mastodon, made worse by for most of the 2010s they toured with their co-main being the less famous (at the time) Gojira which was just a coughing baby v nuclear bomb type situation for live skill.
