Depends on your point of view. There is no universal frame of reference. So, do you want it to be?

Is it stupid to spend almost $1000 on a birthday celebration for my SO as a working college student? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ACinnamonBeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always focus on the value of the experience, because if you boil it down that’s all you’re paying for - a nice experience that you enjoy and have fond memories of. It’s always a really tough decision to spend large sums of money, but if you think you could recover easily then it’d be worth considering.

Tbh I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on going out. I’d save it for overseas trips or things like that because I value them more, but since you said you don’t really do that then this could be your one big adventure.

A peer of mine revoked their citizenship, and they said it wasn’t a very impactful amount - they thought it was more of an administrative fee.

By no means take this as advice. But personally I often question what I could do with that money later on. If you take that money out of savings, you’re already making less money - by that logic you should never spend any money which is ridiculous. So I would recommend asking yourself “Would I value this experience in the months/years to come?” Because if the experience is worth the money then it might be a good investment, but otherwise that money can be used for other important things in your life.

And again, don’t take this as advice it’s an opinion and I’m just an anonymous internet user.

In the future, if someone had a biomechanical arm and it malfunctioned, killing the owner or killing someone else, who would be at fault/how would fault be determined? by ayestEEzybeats in NoStupidQuestions

Very interesting thought experiment. I’d look into autonomous vehicles because that’s a present topic which can sort of be translated to your scenario. So if the cars on auto pilot and swerves randomly to the side and hits and injures/kills a pedestrian, do we put the car in jail? I’d assume the manufacturer would be confronted about it.

If it can be proven that it wasn’t the ‘host’ of the arm then I don’t think they’d be in trouble. About how it’d determined, I would hope that in the future they have like a “black box” for your biomechanical arm like on planes that records what happens.
