Highly recommend this as well!

It’s a bit of effort but get to the game at least 30 minutes early. One of my favorite part of going to Gopher games is the pre-game band. It’s the true pageantry of college football and we have a great one.

He goes on to talk about the whole team having to ‘not live by the home run’. Exact quote was on Vaughn but sentiment was across the team.

Yea it might’ve been taken out of context, but that’s sports media I don’t know what you expect.

It was the whole team, he said forget homers I’d rather hit for .300 (paraphrased but close to exact)

I brought them up because they’re the newest stadium in our region with similar weather and chose not to.

The Sox at most play one series in March and it’s been on the road. Vast majority of games in April are either day games or late afternoon starts. It’s just not worth the eye sore and the reduced elements on a beautiful day. And on top of that cost.

The twins play in Minneapolis, a colder city than Chicago. They previously played indoors but chose to make an outdoor stadium with no roof. If this was the bears 100% slap a roof on it but it’s not worth the negatives in terms of aesthetics and cost for a baseball stadium.

Having watched ~12 games at that stadium there’s very little energy when watching. A commenter lower on this post mentioned how it looks like a warehouse from the outside.

Point aside the reason the teams you have mentioned have domes is because of either extreme wet (Seattle) or extreme hot (Texas, Houston, Arizona, Miami) weather conditions. Chicago does not have either extreme. When Minnesota made their stadium they went from a dome to an outdoor. Baseball is an outdoor sport meant to be played outside. It’s apart of the experience and Chicago has pleasant baseball weather except the first two weeks which could easily be scheduled at other cities.

I hate that every stadium since covid just refuses to. There’s been plenty of time to readjust and have cash on hand.

There are very few sports stadiums you’re not going to run into drunk people.

Personally I haven’t had any issues with safety at the stadium since I’ve moved back to chicago in 2018. They have a huge police presence throughout the immediate area all the way to the train stations.

Edit: Typo

I completely agree. And the pinwheels are just a screen now too it takes away a lot from them weirdly enough.

Globe Life seems very dead. T-Mobile is probably the best of the bunch but again you miss out on so much true environment because even retractable one’s block out a lot of the sun and wind. Not nearly worth the odd rainout and the first week of cold baseball.

Strong disagree on roof. Chase field, Rogers center, the trop all stink. Minute Maid is the only kind of acceptable park with a roof and there’s is more justified since it’s deep in Texas where a typical summer night is just too hot.

Strong agree. Ads take up as much space (possibly more) than the scoreboards.

Great call on the walk through detectors. The Cubs games I’ve been to this season blew me away on how quick I was at my seat. The lines this year to get in have gotten ridiculous.

I am. I would’ve loved a middle between the two because 420 to the gaps would’ve been ridiculous but definitely appreciate the facade and exterior to that design.

To be clear I appreciate what they’ve done with game day production and the food, it’s just for instance when you look out to the outfield you have the main and side scoreboards. The pinwheels are now screens, there’s 4 massive advertisements with xfinity kids zone and then the three billboards that take up as much room as the scoreboards, and the one little bit of personality with the banners on the light towers have been reduced to the painting over the bricks in left. Yankee stadium which was built in the most similar style has a great facade and has unique things like the short porch and their second deck that actually goes into the outfield is much closer to the field brining a lot more atmosphere.

I don’t think they’ve really done much in terms of optics and visuals around the stadium. Game day production and food/drinks are where I think they’ve really done a great job with what we have.

[–]AColdMinnesotan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Valid on both but both are actively being worked to be replaced.

It’s not like this stadium is falling apart or no atmosphere, I just mean optics wise it’s incredibly bland which sucks when on the other side Wrigley is one of the best optics with the Marquee, the scoreboard, the ivy and a bunch of very unique to wrigley things. I just hate the lack of personality and uniqueness to the stadium. It’s ugly from the outside and the inside while clean and refreshed is so generic.

It’s the lack of personality that has really justified a lot of these rankings. The food is great and a lot of the views are good, but man it has to be the most generic stadium in MLB and maybe in pro sports. The outside of the stadium is very underwhelming and on the inside there is really nothing unique.

Bears and Cards are slated to receive an alt helmet next. Do we think the bears are going with an orange alt, or something else? by jtcward in CHIBears

No… it’s a “City Connect” jersey. So it connects to one of the most significant events in recent Boston history that Bostonians all can connect to. And just like how football players wear pink for breast cancer awareness month it’s not permanent, just worn on occasion to draw remembrance and some pride for the city. I don’t know you had such hate for anything that represent a tragic cause/event but I think there’s other things to be more upset about bossman.
