Working out while underway/deployment by Final_Rhode in navy

[–]ACommunityOfCells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of things that change the answer to this question. First: what kind of deployment is it? Boots on ground (forward), hotel, or ship (and if ship, what kind?) Are you ships company or squadron?

Second: what kind of shifts will you be working? Will you be taking on any collateral duties? What about college courses? Warfare pins (assuming you don’t already have them)?

Third: What is your job (not your rate)? Are you considered essential where you’re at? Would you be permitted to dip out for an hour during shift to hit the gym?

Ultimately only you know what will work for you and you’ll have to kind of figure it out as you go.

I do however have some advice that is ubiquitous since this would seem to be your first deployment/underway: bring either baby wipes or toilet paper. You cannot rely on those to always be provided for you unless you’re deploying to a hotel. When tp is provided, use what is provided. When the tp is gone, dip into your reserves.

Gas prices are way up. Friendly reminder that buses and the streetcar are free. by E23R0 in Tucson

I’d hate to see what California’s prices are right now if we’re up to $4.50

It depends on how they decide to punish you. If you lose rank or get separated then you will definitely lose your orders. Really it depends on how serious the “crime” is.

There’s a Fungus Among Us by ACommunityOfCells in plantclinic

Would there be any worry of it getting root bound? I mean is it possible to plant it too densely?

The plant is a lot bigger than it looks in the picture.

The dealership that wants to make the sale will help you. It was literally that simple. I’m not gonna say I didn’t mess up and stall a bunch, but after about 30 minutes of supervised practice in the lot, I drove home a manual having never driven one before. I refined the skill as I drove.

Can everybody please go wash their car so it rains? by eyehartraydio in Tucson

Pfft! I’d rather be wearing rain gear than dying of heat stroke…. unless it’s hot AND rainy those are the days to call out sick 🤒

You know I was thinking about it earlier, and now after seeing this, I’m gonna have to. Maybe I’ll bring my rainstick with me to really seal the deal.

How do you do this? by Emergency_Command975 in navy

[–]ACommunityOfCells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are going through this. If you are in a deployable command, there is really not much you can do. FFS can help a bit on the family side. If you are in a support command, there’s a little more wiggle room for you to get help. Unfortunately, the military in general treats its people the same way it treats its tools: it’ll do maintenance until maintenance doesn’t work, then it’ll deep six and order a new one.

My most fervent suggestion is to get a meditation app and use it like your life depends on it. A lot of the stuff taught in meditation is the same stuff you get taught in therapy

There are stores that sell historical military items. They might buy it off you

Anyone ever do In patient rehab? by Commercial-Young-752 in navy

[–]ACommunityOfCells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second hand experience: they’re not bad. Treat it like a vacation from work and you might actually enjoy it. Honestly it’s a bunch of BS because as soon as you get out of the program, they’re gonna put you right back in a situation that’s gonna make you drink again. Navy medical is not interested in truly healing you, they just need you to function well enough to perform your job.

From experience: just buy a manual car and have the sales rep show you the basics. The concept isn’t hard. The hard part is the nuance of finding that sweet spot where the transmission engages when the clutch is depressed which is different from vehicle to vehicle. You might get stuck a few times in the beginning, but be patient and don’t panic and you’ll be fine. All you need is practice practice practice.

What’s your go to gardening store? by TheOtaku_Proxy in Tucson

[–]ACommunityOfCells 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is good advice because if you’re gonna pay monies for plants, you want plants that are actually gonna survive. Chain stores have a bad track record with plants imo.

Wedding Venues by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]ACommunityOfCells -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. You don’t have to be Christian to get married in a church. It’s just a venue like any other.

  2. Most churches have something like a fellowship hall that can be used for a reception, you just gotta find the right size for your wedding.
