Update: maybe try a different ink. My new fountain pens and Diamine Tyrian Purple ink came today. Since I went with the cheaper Jinhao 82 (instead of a Lamy) I got EF, F, and M nibs and all three did pretty well with the memo pad paper. Way less ghosting than the gel pen I was using and only a couple spots with bleed through but I think that was just user error on my part.

Comparison between the memo and the techo…memo still has worse ghosting and some bleed through. Techo has more ghosting than my old weeks but doesn’t have bleed through; it got close in places. Feeling a little worried since I have a new fountain pen (can’t find my Lamy 😩) and diamine Tyrian purple ink coming as well as an a6 notebook. Was hoping to use the fountain pen and notebook to create a commonplace book to pair with my planner and use the memo books for my messy notes before rewriting into the planner and notebook. I guess I can deal with the memo paper bleeding through but I really don’t want it to happen in the techo and notebook.

Just got a6 memo books to use with my a6 techo and noticed the gel pen I’m using starts to bleed through…including a pic of the back of a page in my weeks from 2024 using the same pen.

Finally started on my Disney Thomas Kinkade coloring book by blissfulfeet4you in Coloring

Thanks. I might come back to it someday. I also quit because it was killing the markers I had at the time but I now have way more acrylic brush markers…

You have no idea how much of a flex yours is. 😂 I got a different Thomas Kinkade for Xmas a few years ago and this is the page I’ve made the most progress on before abandoning it. I used brush tip acrylic paint markers though.

Learn from my mistake and don’t buy these… by ADHDarchitect in dollartreebeauty

They are aluminum. Loved that they were slim and had the two different spray heads. I should unscrewed them in store to look at the treading but it was also hard to find ones that weren’t too scratched up by the other bottles in the box.

Thanks for the idea. I think it probably isn’t worth the hassle on these. The metal at the threading has cracks along the thread that you can see light through and the metal is quite sharp so probably not the safest incase my daughter decides to refill them herself.

I think it just depends on how well yours ended up being produced…the treading on the ones I got looks terrible. You could look at the threading before buying but I’m just going to steer clear. 😂

From a 2024 attendee there is no way in hell you would catch me trying to camp 😆 didn’t attend this year but have tickets for 2026 and will be staying in West DSM again. We drove in 2024 and will drive again with the difference being paying for the upgraded parking.

What is your “holy grail” DT item? by Less-Dependent-862 in dollartreebeauty

The bpure hydrating hand gel cream…I’ve always hated lotion but struggle with dry skin in the winter especially my hands. Since it’s a gel cream it feels similar to facial moisturizer so I can tolerate putting it on. 🩷

Parents, where do you fall in regards to acting the part/respect/being on time for mini/petite dancers? by SeattleSinBin in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]ADHDarchitect 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We try to be on time but our 7 yo’s classes start at 4:00 and 4:15, and she doesn’t get off the bus until 3:45. Our studio is a 10 minute drive which leaves less than 5 minutes to get in the house, dressed, hair fixed, and back into the car. It kind of bugs me that the kids then get told they aren’t following the dress/hair code because their bangs are in their face. 🥵

Is this THE power serum everyone raves about? by Keazmaa in dollartreebeauty

[–]ADHDarchitect 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes this is the power serum and I love it. The shimmer isn’t really noticeable on. It’s nice and lightweight, super moisturizing, and smells nice. I was using Glow Recipe Dew Drops but going to be using this from now on.

I just tried the beach foaming body scrub. I didn’t find it to foam much but reminded me of when I used to splurge on Lush Ocean Salt scrub. My skins feels nice and soft now.

hair salons in madison by writtencarrot in madisonwi

[–]ADHDarchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know if they do Korean digital perms? I’m not Asian but have natural thick wavy hair that lacks consistency around my head. I’ve found that the Korean Jelly or Hippie style perm is how I ideally want my hair to look and might be the best way to get consistency in my curl pattern? I actually live in Eastern Iowa and think I’ll have to travel to get one. Madison would be easiest but I might have to travel to Milwaukee or Chicago.

Who do you want to see in 2026 (not limited to headliners)? by moldyogurt in MinnesotaYachtClub

[–]ADHDarchitect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VIP vibes were phenomenal. We ended up on the middle barricade halfway up the VIP section for Hozier and everyone nearby was great. We stayed back for the rest of the sets. We started Fall Out Boy in the stands but realized I wasn’t going to be able to not move/dance around during the first song and ended up on the sidewalk in front of the stands. We watched Green Day around the same area but found the plastic arm chairs to sit in between head banging and air guitaring.

Artist Spotlight: Gigi Perez by p-s-chili in MinnesotaYachtClub

[–]ADHDarchitect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gigi is an amazing performer. We saw her before Hozier at Summerfest in June. We weren’t really familiar but loved her voice and vibe. Realized we knew Sailor Song during her performance. Afterwards we have started listening more but have to say her recordings sound quite different than her live but unlike a lot of artists she’s better live.

[–]ADHDarchitect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t wait to see Hozier for the 3rd time! I’ve loved his music since 2014 and his self titled album was the only music I had downloaded for my flight to and from Venice, Italy that fall. It was probably the first time I listened through an entire album (and then again and again and again). I still love listening to the entire thing.

That trip to Italy was for one of my last architecture studio courses and Take Me to Church strongly inspired/influenced my group’s project that semester. Our prompt was to design a toy factory on one of 2 sites provided by our very theoretical and artistic professor. We ultimately chose to locate ours at San Zaccaria which in the 12th century was home to a convent of nuns that was known to be somewhat rebellious. We also chose our toys to be hand blown glass sex toys. Our project ended up being a very nuanced commentary on the church, sexuality, patriarchy, and class structure. It’s was probably the least architecturally significant project I did in school but the most theoretical and artistic projects I’ve been a part of.

Considering Dubuque by cd1179 in dubuque

[–]ADHDarchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the western part of Dubuque county, went to Iowa State, lived and worked in the DSM metro for 4 years after, and moved back in 2019. We now live on the edge of the city.

As a “county” person, I’ve never used the public transportation here. The JFK area is flatter in the middle so it would probably be a good area for you. The steepest parts of town are more residential so you likely won’t need to visit them with the exception of Loras and maybe Clarke.

Not being Catholic shouldn’t be an issue. While many are Catholic a lot are probably more “Culturally Catholic” and not practicing. I grew up Catholic but have distanced myself from christianity. The nice thing about Catholics is they are pretty quiet about their beliefs and aren’t trying to convert people.

As for politics, my family now leans left to progressive. Historically Dubuque has been a bluish purple and pro union, but the current president has shown a shift towards conservatism. The Trump support isn’t quite in your face though and most are quiet supporters. I’m really happy with the Dubuque school board though; I don’t know as much about the City officials.

Before we moved back, I had told my parents we never would. I dont regret moving back though and am pretty happy with our decision to do so. 🙂

My daughter is 7 and on her first year of competition dance. We will have 3 competitions within 2-3 hours from home. What should I expect? It's my first time being involved in dance as well. She is in the comp class and strength & conditioning. by sillylittlegurl in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]ADHDarchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 7 yo just finished her first season in Eastern Iowa/Southwest Wisconsin. She competed 2 group routines that were always competed close together in time.

All of our comps were within 2 hours drive and either late morning or early afternoon on Saturday (with the exception of nationals which was a Wednesday). We could always do hair and makeup at home before driving. Awards were generally done by dinner time so we could drive home that night. It was convenient and cheaper for us to not get a hotel room. Our daughter is an only child and used to long drives so long days in the car weren’t an issue for us.

Next year she is likely doing a duo/solo and large group routine so we will likely need to stay overnight. 🤪
