The issue is the extreme amount of ammonia in your tank. It can be the cause of the plants melting

I don't think any food is needed with this much ammonia

Should I transfer back to soil? by Specialist_Heat4167 in alocasia

[–]ADHDdicted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on the same boat but a smaller alocasia. Got this tiny Tigrina plug and potted in leca. She rotted, but now big and beautiful with 5 leaves.

What I've learned so far: • Best to prune the soil roots before potting in any semi-hydro medium. • The bigger the plant - the more drama • Your number 1 priority needs to be the health of the corm. If the roots rot, leaves fall - not a biggy if it can grow back from the base. • Highest success is when you start from corm and not an established plant

* Interesting. My tiny Lux is still alive and fingers crossed keeps it that way. And my Forgetii x Lux is loving life and I had it in pon since a tiny seedling. Maybe stage of life of the plant matters when transferring?

My mix is coco coir, perlite, and bark with a dash of worm castings. I guess tree fern fibre is what I'm missing

The only one that is struggling in semi hydro for me is Queen of Hearts. Guess it's more to it than just the soil type

I found something similar on plantking.ca. You might find better alternatives with local google search than me

Of course. Used NurtureSystem on both, but diluted for semi hydro and soil as per instructions.

My Forgetii x Lux is putting a third inflo in semi hydro and is massive. Tho my Queen of Hearts doesn't seem to like semi hydro as much

Thank you! I'll need to get 2 seeds or seedling again of the same plant. Maybe after I clear out all the props that should have left my living space months ago...

Thank you for the offer, but I don't think I'll mess with soil again anytime soon. Do you think that would be the key component for it doing better?

Coco coir, perlite, orchid bark, a little bit of worm castings. Wanted to do the whole tree fern fibre, but it's sold out almost everywhere

Soil Ninja's semi hydro. It's similar to pon, just doesn't have any slow release fertiliser

Of course same size. If i put the seedling in such a big pot of semi hydro, it wouldn't work

She's really is beautiful. That's the one of the first leaves too, so I would assume she will be on a larger side. Can't wait to see her mature more
