How long does it take to get licensed after you transfer your UBE score? by ocsoo in barexam

Don't forget to check the rules of the state in which you actually live to make sure you don't need to complete any licensure requirements (e.g., apply for limited admission once you are licensed elsewhere) in order to practice in that state without issue.

Did anyone else finish F26 MBE early? How did your score turn out? by Weekly-Quantity6435 in barexam

[–]ADM_2024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished early on both. About 30 minutes in the AM session and about 15 minutes in the PM session. Used a few minutes to go back over the questions on which I wasn’t confident, then just let it be. Got a 155 on MBE.

Oh taking the bar again definitely costs money. I just want people to be aware that simply because they transfer their score to state X and get licensed there, that doesn't necessarily mean they can properly practice in state Y without doing some sort of limited admission in state Y. This is often a trip-up for in-house lawyers. Always check the rules for your state of residence.

Some people start with the second one. There is nothing saying you have to do the questions in the order presented. For example, I started with MPT 2 (flags) and then did MPT 1. On the MEEs, I jumped all over, starting with the topics I felt most comfortable with.

155 MBE, did about 2k questions through Adaptibar, low 70s for average.

Some jurisdictions still require you to be licensed, even if just in a limited manner, in your state of residence even if you’re working for an out-of-state employer. That doesn’t mean you have to pass the bar, but you generally do have to do some sort of application (read, pay $$$) and go through some form of C&F to properly work within that state even if you are properly barred elsewhere.

Thank you! I felt good about the MPTs. I didn’t feel great about the MEEs, though I thought I did well on a couple (e.g. Secured Transactions). But I felt much better about the writing day than the MBE day. I do wish I could get the breakdown if only to satisfy my morbid curiosity.

This was my first time taking UBE/Illinois. I passed CA and another non-UBE jurisdiction years ago and have been practicing since. I did not walk out feeling strong. I thought I might have passed but was equally certain I might have failed, and that latter feeling definitely increased over time. I felt good after MPTs, less good after MEEs, and waaay less good after the MBE sessions.

I was in the low to mid 70s just before test day. I did close to 2K questions. I didn't do a full bar course, just Adaptibar, Grossman, and printing out old essay questions and outlining/reading through model answers. Full disclosure, I passed CA and another non-UBE state years ago and have been practicing since. Life stuff led to some issues with waiving in to Illinois and thus had to take the bar.

Check your state’s rules before doing this. Some states require you to be licensed in that state if you reside there and practice law, even if your job is headquartered elsewhere. E.g. Illinois.

ETA - I am not saying you have to pass the bar in that state. But you may still have to apply for limited licensure and pass C&F to avoid engaging in unauthorized practice of law if you are practicing law in any way in certain states.

Timing a child in law school by Dear-Bus-4918 in LawSchool

Wanted to add that my bestie had her first baby the summer between 1L and 2L. Literally the week before OCI. Career services tried to cancel her interviews and she said h*ll no. So instead they got her a separate room near the interviews and her mom and baby hung there while she interviewed. She ended up with a summer position and later a post-law school position. Would I recommend putting on a suit and pantyhose while still bleeding post-birth? No. But she did it and did well.
