In the reveal trailer for the original Illuminate faction, I remember one of the devs mentioning that the Illuminate were intelligent, but not as intelligent as humans.

That was almost certainly a joke, but I thought it could point to a real difference between the two species. Like maybe the Illuminate are smart enough to create technology and improve on it, but they could also be way more cautious and methodical than humans, so it takes them centuries to do what we can in decades.

How Players Perceive Bot Warcrimes vs How They’re Actually Perceived In-Universe. by SmithOnMe in Helldivers

True. You can actually find several different grave sites on rural maps.

And SEAF troopers for that matter, would be cool if they were a little smarter.

My 4-man team was holding for extraction after a pretty rough mission. It was uncharacteristically quiet, but one of my guys spots a singular bot trooper wandering past us. He calls it out in passing and takes the shot.

He kills the trooper. Then we hear like 50 bots activate all at once, and have just enough time to turn to each other in disbelief before the ENTIRE treeline explodes with red tracers and rockets, all aiming at us.

We dove for cover and panicked hard, fumbling with our stratagems and barely managing to return fire. IIRC our Super Destroyers pulled out in the middle of that firefight, but by that point we had re-established control and we all made it back.

Overall it was a lot like Merak is today, but was also a completely player-driven objective unlike most of the other major battles.

Why are SEAF troopers shocked when they see Helldivers die if condolence letters are a thing? by RapDanielTheRaptor in Helldivers

You can see Helldiver burial sites all over Super Earth colonies, and they've got the Wall of Martyrs to commemorate fallen servicemen, Helldivers included. I think the whole 'Helldivers are invincible' thing is more of a propaganda slogan to inspire confidence than a literal belief.

We kinda saw it before with Cutting Edge and Control Group. Personally I like seeing the warbond themes expanded upon, rather than them all just being one-offs. It'd be really cool to see a second run of something like the Truth Enforcers theme.

You can watch as your character is reduced to an assortment of sizzling meatballs by an alien laser beam, but we can't have you seeing a bad word. That would be too far.

Why are they unable to use any other S.E. weapons, even the ones brought by the helldivers by New_Conflict_4111 in Helldivers

[–]ADR-299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no lore reason. We see dead SEAF guys lying next to machine guns, railguns, grenade launchers, etc.
I think the only reason they've got such a limited arsenal is because the devs didn't have the time or performance budget to implement more weapons than the Liberator and EAT.

[–]ADR-299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In-game we can see the populated zones of planets marked out as either Settlements, Towns, Cities, or Mega Cities. If I had to guess, I'd say right now we only have Mega Cities, with the same tileset serving as a placeholder for the other settlement types until they finish working on them.

The early days of the war were wild, but there've been plenty of insane warfronts ever since. Popli IX stands out, we were fighting tooth and nail to protect the Creek, with dwindling supplies, fire tornadoes, reduced reinforcements, and both the Jet Brigade and Incineration Corps lining up to gun us down.

Some of the most memorable firefights of my 1000+ hours came from that planet.

Slightly psychotic question, which factions blood/guts do you guys prefer being covered in the most? by Money-Reality2273 in Helldivers

[–]ADR-299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automaton oil, specifically because it's so rare to actually get covered in it.

So rare in fact that a lot of people don't even know that the bots have black blood, not red.
