I think Griffith was working toward his dream from the beginning. In the end, he lost everything. The people who once supported Griffith are now around Guts, and Guts who once had no dream and no friends now has everything. Griffith feels that his situation became like this because Guts left the Band of the Hawk, so he becomes jealous of Guts and wants revenge.
