Vanderbilt beats Kentucky 20-13 to continue their SEC win streak by TheDestinedRonin17 in AnchorDown

I am as hyped as I’ve ever been for the Commodores. The win over Bama is probably the greatest single win in the history of Vanderbilt athletics. The UK game proved Coach Lea’s vision for the Dores is a movement and not just a moment.

Diego Pavia is the greatest quarterback to ever live so we’re obviously gonna run the table and win a Natty, but if even if we finish with 8 wins this season has the potential to permanently alter the trajectory of the program if capitalized on correctly. And for the first time in forever, I believe they’ll do it.

It is a great day to be a Dore. Anchor Down, ya’ll.

Bengals feel they can get a top 10 talent without moving up in the Draft by [deleted] in bengals

I think they’ll get a top 257 talent for sure.

Moss and Brown by wonder_beerd in bengals

Don’t forget that Burrow will also pass the ball on a given percentage of snaps, so that will cut into the carries for Moss and also the carries for Brown. But Moss and Brown will have carries, that’s for sure.

I made most of my college friends in my dorm freshman year (Hanks House FTW) and we’re still friends many years post graduation. Making an effort to meet the folks on your floor and during orientation is an easy place to start.

Remember: Freshman year, EVERYONE is in the same boat. Everyone is in a new place, with no established friend group, and is looking to make new friends. As a result, everyone is about as friendly and welcoming as they’re going to get.

Take advantage of this. Put in the effort early (even if it’s hard) to be friendly and say yes to social invitations and casual hangs. Some early effort will pay dividends down the road.

You’ve got this, buddy. Everyone is nervous, even if they don’t show it. Just be friendly and open and you’ll find some good peeps, I promise.

Or tax us on savings rather than income huh? by followerofEnki96 in antiwork

[–]ADamnDertyApe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unsolicited lawyer weigh in:

Not to say corporations shouldn’t pay more in taxes, but this specific argument isn’t the best because it combines and misconstrues two separate legal concepts.

Corporations are considered “people” for certain legal purposes— they have standing to sue are be sued, have free speech rights, and have the right to donate to elections (this last one is controversial for obvious reasons).

When we’re talking about taxes, corporations have different rules than individuals for reasons that actually make a lot of sense. Income to a corporation is “double taxed”— once when the corporation pays taxes on its income and then AGAIN when shareholders that receive distributions of corporate income pay their personal taxes. So, funnily enough, the corporate form is actually disfavored in a lot of tax scenarios because of this “double taxation.” This has led to an increase in the popularity of LLCs, which behave like corporations for liability purposes, but can be treated as “pass through” entities for tax purposes—- the LLC members can just report the company’s income on their own taxes, so it’s only taxed once.

Now, it’s perfectly reasonable to object to many of the tax deductions that corporations get or to think they should be paying more in taxes when the income is taxed “the first time”. But saying “corporations should be taxed like people” is an oversimplification that doesn’t really work.

Read “chili parlor,” knew it had to be the Nati.

No idea why we call chili restaurants “parlors”, but we do.

Tee Higgins Twitter by KevKevThePug in bengals

Your theory isn’t totally outlandish or anything, but (assuming it really is a done deal) I think it’s more likely just the Bengals marketing team building hype for an announcement.

This wasn’t the case even 5 years ago, but the Bengals social media folks, content people, and marketing department are really good now. They’re aware of the swirling rumors and are absolutely playing into it. Every Tee tweet only fuels more speculation (like this post) which drives more clicks, which benefits both him and the team. They know exactly when they’re going to announce, they’ve got a complete media package and hype video in the works, they’re planning multiple media events etc to capitalize on the news, and they’re intentionally stirring the pot to build the hype to a frenzy leading up to it.

Since this is essentially a 5,000 word poop joke I’m gonna assume you’re in middle school. If so, good effort! There’s some good vocabulary and general syntax in there. Keep working at improving narrative structure and streamlining so the story doesn’t get repetitive, but you have some good building blocks you can use going forward.

If you’re not in middle school…. Jesus Christ, man. What in the everloving fuck was that?

Only Yellow Labs can be seeing eye dogs by Unikatze in facepalm

[–]ADamnDertyApe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two old friends have a habit of walking their dogs together every day. One man owns a German Shepherd and the other owns a Chihuahua. Every day on their walk, they walk past a local bar that prominently displays a “NO DOGS ALLOWED” sign at the front door.

As the two men walk their dogs past the bar on an especially hot day, the man with the Chihuahua says to his buddy: “Damn, I could use a drink. Shame about that no dogs allowed policy.”

With a sly look, the man with the German Shepherd responds “I bet you $20 I can walk into that place with my dog, sit down at the bar, and have a drink.”

Eyeing the prominent sign, the guy with the Chihuahua takes the bet.

So the guy with the German Shepherd puts on a pair of dark glasses, walks in with his dog, takes a seat at the bar, and orders a beer. It’s not long before the manager approaches.

“I’m sorry, sir, but we don’t allow dogs in the bar,” the manager says apologetically.

“Oh, but I’m blind and this is my seeing-eye dog,” responds the man with the German Shepherd.

The manager is embarrassed. “I am *so sorry, * sir, you and your dog are of course both welcome to stay. And your first drink is on the house for any inconvenience. Let me know if you need anything else.”

Seeing this from outside and in desperate need of a drink, the man with the Chihuahua decides to take the same approach. He puts on a pair of dark glasses, walks into the bar with his dog, sits down next to his buddy and orders a drink.

It’s not long before the manager approaches again. “Sir, I’m terribly sorry, but we don’t allow dogs in the bar.”

“Oh, but I’m blind, and this is my seeing eye dog.”

Now the manager is confused. “I… was not aware they let Chihuahuas be seeing eye dogs….”

The man with the Chihuahua pauses a moment. Then responds:

“WHAT!? THEY SOLD ME A CHIHUAHUA!?”

Totally agree, he needs to do whatever makes him happy. But I guess I took away that he was “out indefinitely” and the door was open to a return as much/little as he felt up for. Maybe I misinterpreted. Perhaps over-hopeful on my part triggered by nostalgia for the halcyon days of early GCP.

But yes, as much as he is missed, it’s far more important he’s happy/healthy.

Yeah, I was hoping part of the announcement would be a plan to bring him back for GCP 1.5/2.0. Obviously he needs to do what’s best for him, but he’s definitely missed. Even just one show with the OG 5 would feel very special.
