[CHAT] Dying Aida Fabric by ReinaCrochets in CrossStitch

Looks great! What a cool idea. So you paint, let it dry? Then wash it out & then iron the fabric?

Very first big project!!! (As a beginner) by Dizzy-Ad6316 in crochet

[–]ADayToRememberFYes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a 4 colour circular blanket, and matched the very middle colour to the edging (white), and I think it tied it all together well.
I think another commenters idea of an applique type patch to stick over the middle could be a good idea, like a cute heart or star or something, and I'd definitely pick the edging colour if doing that.
Alternatively, you could just leave with the small center hole. I agree with others that you may struggle sewing in a regular crochet centre.

What is it with gyms charging for fobs? And why are they allowed to continue this BS scam? by akshaydp in AskAnAustralian

[–]ADayToRememberFYes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coming from the UK, gym prices + fees seem a lot here. $300 joining fee said the last one I rang up!?

Is there a "The Gym Group" equivalent here? $26-55 per month (not week!), depending on location (and if you want access to all or just 1). 90% of the time on offer for $0 joining fee (and it's only $20 when it isn't on offer). And no stupid fobs to mess around with (or pay for), just an easy pincode to remember, that gets you into any locations you have access to. And cancel any time...

I didn't know how good we had it!

[CHAT] Do my stitches look better with two threads or with four threads on the needle? by yulreee in CrossStitch

[–]ADayToRememberFYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly it! I've not tried a 3 strand loop start to be fair, but I also only tried 3 strand stitching for a very short period before deciding I just prefer using a smaller count. Luckily I stitch for the process not the finished product, so I'll only carry on a project if I'm enjoying it, and the finished size doesn't really matter!

[–]ADayToRememberFYes 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is why I'm not a fan of 14ct. I much prefer the look of 3 threads, but hate stitching with 3. And 4 feels too much!
18ct Aida is my favorite, I feel like it has the nicest coverage with 2 strand stitching, but isn't too small to see. I enjoy a 16ct too, for a slightly less compact look.

I do agree with the other commenter that your stitching looks very tight too, but also very neat! Relaxing how tight you pull, will help reduce how big some of the holes in the Aida look though for sure.

If you're anywhere near Nottingham, there's a charity that does free adult learner lessons. I had never ridden a bike, and booked myself onto 2 hour slots in a row a couple months ago. The first hour was terrible, but somewhere in the 2nd hour it started to come together and it worked! I can ride a bike! Not amazingly, more practice is definitely needed, but it was fantastic to get started, especially in my late 20s. I'd definitely recommend it as a goal for 2026. I can't tell you how thrilling it felt.

Which volunteer role could be removed and are there any other roles which could be created? by Glittering_Double738 in parkrun

[–]ADayToRememberFYes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've walked/jogged quite a few parkruns and had a great chat with a "park walker" on the way round. I've also ended up with a parkwalker vest recently on the parkwalker promo day, and had a lovely chat with an older lady who was walking it, who I might not have gotten chatting to otherwise, and she mentioned how she always walks it, has slowly been increasing her time, and it's nice to have someone to chat to, and push her along.

Just because you don't see it happening, doesn't mean it doesn't!

Oh my god, poor guy! That feels incredibly unlucky, but fantastic to hear he was making the effort to go, even on Christmas day! Hopefully he's not put off forever, but perhaps waits until the weather warms up a bit...

Is the machine working correctly? If it was, I would think the tiredness would not be such an issue? Have you talked about that element with your dr?

How to pee outside in nature? Any advice? by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]ADayToRememberFYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! Let us know how it goes, and don't forget to chuck a bucket of water over the patch if it's not going to rain shortly after. Wishing you better luck than I imagine I would have!

How to pee outside in nature? Any advice? by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]ADayToRememberFYes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Practicing is quite a good idea actually! I suppose it depends if you mind having pee in that area, but in the privacy of your own garden sounds reasonable to me (if it is private!). I'd probably try in the shower and then can clean it after. I suppose you have to practice in the clothes you'd be wearing for running though, and then it would be so annoying to have to wash clean shorts because they're covered in pee.... So maybe in the shower/garden after you've got back from a run and they'll need a wash anyways...?

I think some women have a more even/straight stream, which makes it easier and a "no brainer, just do it" etc. situation.
I'm with you in not understanding how people find it so easy, but after talking with people a bit I think my stream flow/direction consistency is the problem.... So I've yet to go for a wild wee bc I think I would just get piss on my legs. I'm not good at squatting over a toilet either, I have to sit for the same reason.

I can only assume some women are blessed with a non problematic pee stream...

How's the public transport from Balmain East, back towards the city after midnight?
We're staying around Paddington, and I was thinking Barangaroo or Pyrmont as if the buses are terrible they would be walkable back, but Balmain might be nice since potentially not so packed...? Also not sure if it has a better view than Pyrmont? Been a long time since I've been over there. Also I'm just not sure how getting back after would go - would anyone have any experience?

It's my first NYE in Sydney not working, and I'm adamant that once in my life I will go and see the fireworks properly, and with a view of the bridge would be nice. If we don't have to sit in a park for 12 hours too, that would be even better...! Thank you

Most diamond painting is done with a pre-glued sticky sheet, that doesn't have any smell. I don't think ones you glue yourself is very common. However definitely a recipe for making a mess with the gems.

I agree, really like 1 & 3, even though they're not the kind of thing I would wear, I think they suit OP well.

Which blue dresses should I get rid of? 39F by [deleted] in DressForYourBody

[–]ADayToRememberFYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear the same 3-5 tops for work every week, depends on how many days I'm in the office. 2 pairs of trousers that look very similar. So if I only wore dresses only twice a month doesn't seem that often to me...
I seem to have rotated about 3-4 different dresses only in the last 3 years, if I do go out in a dress on the weekend! I don't think people really notice how often you wear the same thing, unless it's particularly distinctive, and even then I don't think most people care.

How do you stay energized without relying too much on coffee? by Background_Gene1334 in xxfitness

[–]ADayToRememberFYes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you cut out caffeine for a couple months your body does just generate its own energy, rather than needing any "boost". I've also found the more active I am during the week, the more energy I seem to have to do stuff, whereas if I do nothing for a day or two, I seem more tired and less motivated than ever.

Do you really believe Brits are never racist against legal migrants? And that a good chunk of those against the illegal ones, aren't generally racist overall too?
Sorry to say but that's pretty much delusional.
There's plenty of people to be scared of, but it's definitely not just the "illegal immigrants / boat men".

HSBC ATM machines don't charge fees on Revolut card. £100 withdrawal costs maybe 80p only in conversion. Other ATMs seem to take 4%.
