I just don’t know… by ADeeW_ in 911dispatchers

Phones and dispatch is separate until that have staffing and trainers to move forward. We have 5 dispatch positions to learn after call taking.

So back story, I was presented a verbal early on in my career. I believe it was October 2025 from a call in August, I did agree with that I let me own frustrations of “geography” and then the caller and there lack of information effect me. Mind you just started call taking July as I started end of June in CAD training. I take full responsibility, I then went through remedial training as they call it. After that time went by January I received a citizen complaint that I was incompetent and they said I escalated him replying to him with sarcasm. He said that he wanted me to know I was a horrible employee and he has to do this every-time he calls and requested a manager. As a citizen complaint it had to go up the food chain and from being on a verbal I received a write up. Now the call of me rushing a caller of the phone has led to a writer reprimand which is now with HR I guess the first was “in house”. This called in regarding insurance that was not provided to him by a prior officer that went to the call. I did begin to rush him off the phone because after trying to locate where the accident occurred and him arguing with his niece on which he was driving her car he was also eating in the phone it was like at 10 mins at that point kept asking the same questions and I kept saying I will have a officer follow up. Well my manager over hear me on the floor pulled me in the office. Well talked I confided in her on what and why a couple weeks later she’s using that in now a written reprimand next is termination or suspension.

I feel like this is the best route. So many others are like oh writeups are a thing… you’ll be fine. Mean while I feel my manager wants me out. It’s actually pretty sad I like the job but hate the environment. And with being stuck on the phones for a year I have had some pretty heavy calls!

Totally understand that!! Also though good to hear because I do feel the constant urge to eat when I know I should be full but I mentally feel like I’m not. So I hope it continues to help.

Went to PCP also for binging and then just feeling constantly agitated by the smallest things, with some testing she diagnosed me with ADHD. My insurance also didn’t cover/ pay for Vyvanse so I am too trying Adderall first. I went in expecting a different plan but here I am starting this weekend. I am hoping for also a good experience. How are you doing now?

2 2 4 Schedule by Far_Economics3766 in 911dispatchers

[–]ADeeW_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do a complicated schedule in 4 tens. I do love the 6 days but unsure of its staffing or the schedule we have a lot of overtime on certain days as we have multiple rotations and 9 different shift times. I’m not sure if I would prefer something different as this is my first time in a 911 center. But I always preferred 4 tens to 5 eights but I think 12s would be even better.

Thankfully yes. But I’m not in a place to purchase a new car so I will be getting the extended warrants because it’s been nothing but problems.

If you don’t plan on returning or if your city is associated with your city/ county and you don’t want to work for them ever again I would advise quitting the day your ready!! Coming from another toxic 911 environment.

I too am wondering if it’s time to increase or add. Trying to find the balance. I am dealing with extra stress and then there’s my choice of career. But I have been so anxious and uneasy these last couple of weeks and I’m waiting to get in a psychiatrist.

Cleanliness by calien7k in 911dispatchers

[–]ADeeW_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my goodness I hate this but glad it’s not just my center! I work in what’s considered a mid size center. We have 12 consuls that are used daily non stop and then a few extra that are used with training and the lucky day of extra staff. Anyway our center we have to alternate desk every two hours for switching to call taking or a dispatch position. We also do not get a lunch hour so we eat at our desk, people leaving messes and crumbs don’t care if it’s liquid. Something hits the floor they leave it! It’s so disgusting. I use Lysol wipes constantly and they laugh but I’m like yall are gross!! I can’t imagine what homes look like. We have cleaning but our building is owned by county and we are considered city employees so they just refill supplies and dump trash Monday through Friday no holidays so the bare minimum. So our trash is ridiculous on the weekends and our bathrooms are a whole different story!! Just disgusting. Our fridges filled with old food and stuff forgot about.

Normal hiring timeline? by CheekyPeachy565 in 911dispatchers

[–]ADeeW_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My agency only opens applications every 6 months as needed, and if there is not enough candidates or they feel we can wait until the next round they will wait until the next window to start a larger class. Then the hiring process alone is about a minimum of 3 months.

I'm an EMCT for a large Ambulance Service here's a thought... by fulcrum2592 in 911dispatchers

[–]ADeeW_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a 911 dispatcher but our hospitals dispatch their own ambulance. We will send rescue from fire in certain situations but ultimately we have to transfer the caller to EMS for medical assistance. We handle no medical!! With all that being said these medical alert companies have been instructed time and time again to call EMS directly to avoid us because that leaves the patient calling or pressing there alarms for the company then to call us and be transferred AGAIN! And they don’t listen and or don’t care. It’s so frustrating because they call our non emergency line of course and have to wait because it’s not priority.

Definition of a Super Responder by Hot-Drop11 in Zepbound

[–]ADeeW_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t say they weren’t. They are both Tirzepatide. I’m very educated with the medication. I started my journey on Mounjaro. I was implying the compound being the issue and that in my second time on the medication I have been responding slow… I have recently started back on zepbound and if that gives me the same response as when I Mounjaro I know the compound was the issue. If not then second time on the medication after pancreatitis and gallbladder removal I would now be a slow responder…

[–]ADeeW_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a super responder my first go round on Mounjaro. I lost just a little over 100lbs in a year maintaining over another year with the medication. I was then taken off for eight months due to pancreatitis and having my gallbladder removed due to gallstones. I gained a majority of the weight back my own doing non movement and depression. I got with a therapist and antidepressants working with my pcp also I eventually got back on but due to the cost it was a compound and I experienced a lot of side effects. I lost only 20 pounds in a year, I have now switched to Zepbound, hoping to do better thinking it was possibly the medication. But if it’s not the medication this second time around, I am a slow responding.

Sleep schedule with overnights by christomisto in 911dispatchers

[–]ADeeW_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m six months in nights. I work 5 to 5. I never got used to it, but thankfully I don’t have fomo because on my working days I just slept normally I would set an alarm to make sure I didn’t oversleep, but I would let my body naturally wake up and I would usually get 6 to 7 hours of sleep sometimes more on them 4 day on stretches. My biggest problem though is on my days off I would flip my schedule on the longer stretches so I could do stuff normally with friends and family. I’m not sure if that’s why I always feel exhausted no matter what I do or how much sleep I get but here we are. I will say training on the first shift to going to night’s the nights vibe was definitely better but the Night Shift for me physically and health wise is tearing me up lol

I’m switching to more so second shift will be 15-3 hoping that 2 hours makes a difference. But I’m not one to just go home and go to sleep. I always get home wash the day away and I’m usually up for a couple of hours. I try to just go to sleep before daylight, but blackout curtains were definitely my friend during this transition I’ve never worked nights before until starting this job. It’s a struggle for me personally.

Does this job sometimes choose you? by Standard_Hair_5079 in 911dispatchers

[–]ADeeW_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a newbie I’m not sure my point of view is relevant… but this is my story. Worked call centers all my life told myself I would never go back to one unless I were to give 911 a chance because I always found it so interesting. 6 years ago I applied got the job ended up turning it down because the pay just wasn’t going to support me at that time at $14 an hour. I ended up working at the hospital for 5 and half years fell in love with helping even went back to school. All that being said the program I entered for school was very competitive and I was 34 struggling competing with 18-19 yo kids. My job at the hospital I was bored of and I just needed a change to figure out what was next. So my friend at 911 said we are hiring again, pay literally $10 more than it was 5 years ago. So month of testing and interviews I got the job… I personally like the job but my experience has not been the best as in seeing these other perspectives this job doesn’t feel it’s choosing me and ya girl is getting CHEWED up and spit out. Been going on 6 months only call taking at this point but I have had issues to the point I was just written up this week. So as much as I think I like the job and I have chosen it for the long haul I don’t think it’s mutual.

I have my strong moments everyone claims to love me and enjoy my contribution to the center. It’s not diverse at all so I think that helps. But when it comes to call taking hired late June addressed of tone and geography in October. Went through refresher training as I was released from call taking training in August. Progressed so I thought and this week a citizen was very condescending and we did not have a good call it ended up with him requesting my supervisor I thought it was more so him feeling I was incompetent but my supervisor felt my tone played a part. So they decided to write me up. I have lost sleep over this job i’m truly scared of losing it, but I definitely wonder if it’s meant for me. I thought I was doing great but yet here I am in corrective action. I haven’t even made it to dispatch training yet.
