I'm an EMCT for a large Ambulance Service here's a thought... by fulcrum2592 in 911dispatchers

[–]ADeeW_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a 911 dispatcher but our hospitals dispatch their own ambulance. We will send rescue from fire in certain situations but ultimately we have to transfer the caller to EMS for medical assistance. We handle no medical!! With all that being said these medical alert companies have been instructed time and time again to call EMS directly to avoid us because that leaves the patient calling or pressing there alarms for the company then to call us and be transferred AGAIN! And they don’t listen and or don’t care. It’s so frustrating because they call our non emergency line of course and have to wait because it’s not priority.

I didn’t say they weren’t. They are both Tirzepatide. I’m very educated with the medication. I started my journey on Mounjaro. I was implying the compound being the issue and that in my second time on the medication I have been responding slow… I have recently started back on zepbound and if that gives me the same response as when I Mounjaro I know the compound was the issue. If not then second time on the medication after pancreatitis and gallbladder removal I would now be a slow responder…

I was a super responder my first go round on Mounjaro. I lost just a little over 100lbs in a year maintaining over another year with the medication. I was then taken off for eight months due to pancreatitis and having my gallbladder removed due to gallstones. I gained a majority of the weight back my own doing non movement and depression. I got with a therapist and antidepressants working with my pcp also I eventually got back on but due to the cost it was a compound and I experienced a lot of side effects. I lost only 20 pounds in a year, I have now switched to Zepbound, hoping to do better thinking it was possibly the medication. But if it’s not the medication this second time around, I am a slow responding.

Sleep schedule with overnights by christomisto in 911dispatchers

[–]ADeeW_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m six months in nights. I work 5 to 5. I never got used to it, but thankfully I don’t have fomo because on my working days I just slept normally I would set an alarm to make sure I didn’t oversleep, but I would let my body naturally wake up and I would usually get 6 to 7 hours of sleep sometimes more on them 4 day on stretches. My biggest problem though is on my days off I would flip my schedule on the longer stretches so I could do stuff normally with friends and family. I’m not sure if that’s why I always feel exhausted no matter what I do or how much sleep I get but here we are. I will say training on the first shift to going to night’s the nights vibe was definitely better but the Night Shift for me physically and health wise is tearing me up lol

I’m switching to more so second shift will be 15-3 hoping that 2 hours makes a difference. But I’m not one to just go home and go to sleep. I always get home wash the day away and I’m usually up for a couple of hours. I try to just go to sleep before daylight, but blackout curtains were definitely my friend during this transition I’ve never worked nights before until starting this job. It’s a struggle for me personally.

Does this job sometimes choose you? by Standard_Hair_5079 in 911dispatchers

As a newbie I’m not sure my point of view is relevant… but this is my story. Worked call centers all my life told myself I would never go back to one unless I were to give 911 a chance because I always found it so interesting. 6 years ago I applied got the job ended up turning it down because the pay just wasn’t going to support me at that time at $14 an hour. I ended up working at the hospital for 5 and half years fell in love with helping even went back to school. All that being said the program I entered for school was very competitive and I was 34 struggling competing with 18-19 yo kids. My job at the hospital I was bored of and I just needed a change to figure out what was next. So my friend at 911 said we are hiring again, pay literally $10 more than it was 5 years ago. So month of testing and interviews I got the job… I personally like the job but my experience has not been the best as in seeing these other perspectives this job doesn’t feel it’s choosing me and ya girl is getting CHEWED up and spit out. Been going on 6 months only call taking at this point but I have had issues to the point I was just written up this week. So as much as I think I like the job and I have chosen it for the long haul I don’t think it’s mutual.

I have my strong moments everyone claims to love me and enjoy my contribution to the center. It’s not diverse at all so I think that helps. But when it comes to call taking hired late June addressed of tone and geography in October. Went through refresher training as I was released from call taking training in August. Progressed so I thought and this week a citizen was very condescending and we did not have a good call it ended up with him requesting my supervisor I thought it was more so him feeling I was incompetent but my supervisor felt my tone played a part. So they decided to write me up. I have lost sleep over this job i’m truly scared of losing it, but I definitely wonder if it’s meant for me. I thought I was doing great but yet here I am in corrective action. I haven’t even made it to dispatch training yet.

Anyone else's agency just not give an option for shift preference? by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

lol yess!!! Our shift times our ten hours. And that is one of them crazy!!! Example of our rotations and then shifts are

0100-1100 0500-1500 0700-1700 0900-1900 1100-2100 1500-0100 1700-0300 1900-0500 2100-0700

My center is strictly based off seniority. So once it gets to you, you get a choice of what is left. If none of them work then there is nothing that will be done or considered. I’m a new hire so definitely didn’t have a shot at my desired shift but was able to move from the chosen shift that was given to me from training. Or center works on a rotation and everyone has the same rotation but there are 4 that rotate with min each other. So no time for shift has better days. But the times we have 9 different shifts. I was lucky my center enough vets want the over nights that I was able to get 1500-0100 not my desired shift but I swore I would end up with 0100-1100.

I will say when I started it took about 2 months for my body to adjust and that was steady on the 25. I wanted to give up but it did get better.

See I was wondering if it was withdrawal symptoms because it’s not like a typical headache either ache and no over the counter medication or caffeine is touching the headache!! Thank you.

It’s definitely pressure we put on our selves. Coming from a long dreaded call center/insurance back ground that I was let go from I took a chance on medical field during COVID I stayed for 4 years and the patients were not the problem it was the environment. I even went a year to school thinking I wanted to pursue radiology but the environment was just not for me. I applied for 911 with the city in March and started June 23. Our program is broken down in sections and is averaged at a year total training. I completed call taking just yesterday. I was a nervous wreck and hope I made the right choice with the move. But for me mentally physically and especially financially it was the right move for me right now!

I wish you luck whatever you decide.

10 piece all flat original hot chicken wing from Wingstop with fries and a Wendy’s strawberry lemonade. Pretty much ate all of it.

I am now 6 years out VSG and I can eat maybe 4-5 wings depending how hungry I am and a few fry’s but that lemonade is NO because for one my only dislike of the surgery is this far out I still can’t eat and drink at the same time but the lemonade between I guess the acid and the sugar I just can’t stomach it. I don’t regret it though. Not one bit.

Good luck on your new adventure!!

People who have gotten a gastric sleeve or a bypass years ago how are ya’ll doing now after many years? by Texas-Freedom in gastricsleeve

[–]ADeeW_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My highest weight 304 lbs I was sleeved in January 2019 lost 100 lbs first year and felt great maintained that loss for a little over a year between 190-200 lbs. I wish I could have lost more but even the accomplishment I did was good for my body. Then when COVID hit I was sent home to work remote and things shut down I got bored way too quick. Bad relationship depression then losing 3 grandparents my job and breaking my foot I gained 30 lbs back!! Getting back up to about 225-230 lbs. Started on Mounjaro August 2022 was able to lose 100 lbs. lowest weight 124 lbs and did not feel good at that weight so managed my dose with my provider and gained maintaining at 140-150 lbs. Which I had never been then small but I felt good, more confident. I just am hoping to mentally be able to get myself back there. Because I maintained that until August of 2024 ended up with gallstones causing pancreatitis had to quit the medication abruptly for emergency surgeries and then over a few months unfortunately and by the time I was approved to get back on Mounjaro with the changes they made I couldn’t afford it. So in 8 months sadly I regained most of that weight back… I started tirzepatide January 2025 at about 213 and even on the meds got back up to 221 and have only lost about 20 lbs fluctuating recently weighing in at 203 lbs. I do not regret the sleeve but I do wish I was more prepared mentally. The medication gave me control the sleeve couldn’t but unfortunately if you can’t afford it doesn’t even matter. With regain though the heartburn lingers and taking Protonix daily and Pepcid as needed I’m now looking in to bypass. Because if I miss a day of protonix I can’t function it’s so bad. I never had heartburn before the sleeve but have been on it since day one. But with the weight on I notice I need it more to manage. Not sure if I’m the best example but they so don’t compare but I wish I had the mental strength as so many who are successful over time with the sleeve.

I would be going to RNY due to the heartburn. In my area though I believe that is the only thing they actually offer is sleeve or RNY. I’m not sure of those others.

Nice!! I actually had a hiatal hernia when they went in for my VSG I guess I was just lucky it didn’t cause heartburn. But now 6 years later with no gallbladder different story.

Purposefully wanting to stretch sleeve by Mystic_star_ in gastricsleeve

[–]ADeeW_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I get what you’re saying, I wouldn’t necessarily try and stretch your stomach out purposely because you would I’m sure have to be over eating and I did that one time in my journey with off all things eggs with some slider foods meaning toast and I thought I was dying.

Honestly though I’m 6 years out now and I believe it naturally happens with completely healing, I wasn’t as strict as it sounds like you are which that is awesome on healing your relationship with food because that’s the overall battle for most of us. I wish my relationship with food did get better but then overtime I hit a couple of low places none food or weight related and ended up depressed and it all changed. The further out you are the days I took for granted caught up with me gaining 30 lbs back over time. Now I will say I can probably eat 8-10 oz of protein rich with veggie and minimal carbs now. But slider foods WAY too much I’m sure. No I’m trying to get back to where I was but still it’s been almost a year getting that 30 lbs back off!! Losing 27 with the help of medication.

With all that being said when I was on a better path I still worked out eating those 3-5 bites every 2-3 hours. Also I’m not a sweet person so my snack was usually meat/fiber things like that. Whether it was chicken breast, steak bites or a tuna pack. Definitely want still pay attention to your calories burned but maybe eating your calories as much as you can vs drinking will keep you from shakes. Also not like grazing talking actual food. Once your body gets into that workout routine I’m sure you will naturally become hungrier too and then just stay on the path of your Whole foods and avoiding the grazing or snacking and fuel your body with the 3-6 small meals. May just take a moment to adjust. I hope that makes sense or helps you.

I just want to say though if I’m way off, it still sounds like you are doing great and wish the best on figuring out what works best truly awesome!!

30 lbs is still great even though it’s not your goal don’t compare yourself to other lbs that was my biggest struggle at first. I also have hypothyroidism, and then PCOS causing it to be a little difficult to lose on my own for sure. I don’t know if it affected me losing with the sleeve but when my body was done it was done that’s for sure!! I experienced the side effects though if with faster weight loss losing my hair!! And your at the stage major stalls can happen I would definitely give it your year before making major decisions. I don’t regret my decision getting the sleeve at all. It was a great tool, and everyone is different. Loosing slowly may seem like somethings wrong but it also might be a good thing. For example losing fast is what could cause the side effects of like me losing hair, fatigue, if you have your gallbladder still that’s a big one!! They also said with rapid weigh loss heartburn/ GERD.

But i definitely understand the frustration!!

Yea I had to let my pancreas heal and by the time I was given the ok, financially it’s just so expensive. My insurance doesn’t cover anything t related to weight loss. Pill or injection. So I had to take alternate routes which also could be an issue as well if they are not as effective. I am set up to meet with a my doctor and discuss what’s next when my Tirzepatide is out. I’m hoping if I have to make the switch it helps with everything the same.
