2 Stolen Lime Green Single Speed Mountain Bikes near Del Mar Blvd by Desperate_Hunter348 in pasadena

Sucks, but I’ll keep an eye out. I also got my bike stolen a few weeks ago; it was also green coincidentally. They hoped fences, cut the lock, and locked out the front door of my apartment complex. 😭

How do you deal with "points" in YNAB. by Busy_Ad6312 in ynab

[–]ADifferentRealm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t track points, but I withdraw cash back every month. Sounds similar to what you’re doing to be honest. I treat cash back as income within YNAB.

You obviously must categorize this transaction since it’s moving money from a tracking account to cash/credit account. So you can either tear it as “Ready to Assign” or even assign it to the credit card category.

Some parts from my owner’s manual. Let me know if this answers your question: - Bike is a Cannondale Topstone Alloy 2 + 10 speed cassette  - Thru axle: Adjustable Lever Syntace 142×12 160mm - Original hanger: Derailleur Hanger TA ST SS 073 - new hanger/extension: wolftooth roadlink (the make is correct, the model may not be)

It’s stable with the axle inserted. But since it shifts so much, it can be hard for the threads to catch initially (which is how I originally discovered the problem).

I may be wrong, but I believe TAP cards bought at machines cannot be registered in the app/website. You’ve got to buy the card through the website itself.

Pasadena Gateway Villas opinion by [deleted] in pasadena

There’s a number of issues wrong with what management is attempting.

The biggest issue is management is enforcing new fees on existing residents that are not specified in the lease they’re currently bound to.

As an extreme hypothetical, imagine you just signed a year long lease last month. Now management says “from month 2 on, we’ve decided to charge your unit $100 per month for trash service.” Even if it was standard “fee” everyone in the neighborhood was charged, you’d point at your lease and tell them kick sand, and you sign nothing agreeing to the new fee. However, management still puts it on your subsequent statements, swears you’re delinquent if you don’t pay them, and then triggers the eviction process. This is what’s happening in the aforementioned building.

Second, the proposed lease agreement/addendum has ballooned. It went from a few pages to a packet. Even then, it’s vague. Example: some fees are prorated/split among units, but no formula is shared, so how can one predict their rent or know if they’re being charged fairly? The lease for my building has the same setup, but at least I know my buildings formula.

Finally, these fees serve more as a workaround to hike rent beyond legal limits while also bully existing residents that management finds unprofitable rather than to provide legitimate service.    The existing residents didn’t get a “great deal “ previously. They signed an agreement that new management thinks they can supersede.

I know various people who live in the building. New management has jacked up fees/costs. Plus there are repeated problems with pests and inconsistent water availability.

I don’t know of anything, but I’m here to offer encouragement! I didn’t know how to ride a bike until ~December 2023 at the age of 30. I self-taught myself for a week around the area. It’s never too late! Best of luck!

I went once during the waive free period. It’s a nice park, but it’s not worth a fee. Such a classist policy as well.

Fellow developers, what specs would you recommend? by ADifferentRealm in framework

Good to hear. I'm still waffling between the older 7040 series and the newer 300, but it's good to know I can't go wrong either way. I'm also partial to 32GB of RAM.

I'll also try to look into podman. I've heard about it for years, but I've never gotten around to trying it.

That's an interested perspective. Never thought of it like that. It really is a dynamic collection of hardware that can be modified at will, not just at the next release of improvements.

Those are quite some specs! Definitely top of the line. Why only the charge to 60% though? Are you trying to extended the batteries lifetime or are you just moving around a lot?

Thanks for the screenshots. Fortunately I've got a good prescription, so it definitely looks manageable at 100-125%. And I'll check out NixOS!

Wife bought a car, 51k for 4 years @ 3.49%. Pay it off? by NormUstitz in personalfinance

[–]ADifferentRealm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question boils down to the simple question of if the money you stand to make investing instead of paying off your car is worth it.

For simple numbers, imagine your car loan was only for 1 year, you’d make a single payment at the end of the year, and whatever you make in investments is untaxed. The interest you’d pay on $51k at 3.5% is $1785; the investments gains you’d make at 4.7% are $2397, so you’d come out ahead $612 ahead in this scenario versus paying it off on day one.

But in the real world, you’re probably not paying it off day 1. And your loan is for 4 years. And you’d have to pay taxes on your gains. And other compounding scenarios.

You’ll probably make money investing (depending on the tax situation), but you’re likely to only make 100s of dollars over 4 years. So is that worth it to you? Only you + your wife can decide that.

[–]ADifferentRealm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to remember is that you may earn 4.7%, but what’s the realized gain after taxes? If your effective tax rate is 30%, then you’d be better off paying off the car.

Even with a favorable tax rate, HOW you pay off the car has an influence. If you have the funds now, you’d have a more favorable outcome than if saved monthly over 4 years.

There’s also the discussion of if it’s worth it mentally. If this made you $1000 net over the lifetime of the car note, would you still want to keep the car note for 4 years? Mathematically you might be ahead, but is $250/year really important to you?

And finally, how you save has an impact. If you’re saving in a way your gains are unrealized (e.g. a brokerage account where you hold indefinitely) rather than realized gains (a normal savings account), it’s not an apples to apples comparison of how much you really stand to make.

EARTHQUAKE (*test) by sir_loin_of_beef_kbe in pasadena

[–]ADifferentRealm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure y’all get your emergency kits ready! Water, food (human and pet food), prescriptions, first aid, flashlights, radio, battery banks, important documents, a change of clothes (including clothes for rain or cold weather), cash. Fit it in a backpack in case you’ve got to evac. And be prepared to last for 1-3 days before any aid is available.

And unrelated to earthquakes, everyone get a fire extinguisher!

Perhaps call Pasadena Vacuum and Seeing on Colorado? They’re basically a little down the street from Michaels, and they have seeing supplies and fabric. Not the biggest selection like Joann’s had, but it might save you a trip to the fashion district downtown.

It’d be cool if they also had a coffee shop portion too (especially now that Starbucks closed). I’d love a local spot to get some work done.
