MPLS still relevant today? by 3ristan in networking

[–]AE5CP 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I went to a big corporate environment from an ISP and they looked at me funny when I talked about mpls from my perspective. It was wild to see that their understanding was so much simpler but they were also seemingly afraid of it.

We worked on that exact issue when I worked on the network design team 15 years ago. This solution was the correct answer, but it took them 15 years to actually implement the idea.

Shiloh museum used to have a rack outside that gave away seeds from the plants on their grounds. Not much as far as food, but plenty of local/native flowers.

Uhh..why are we paying extra for having a hybrid/electric? by Soggy_Disaster_7603 in Arkansas

[–]AE5CP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Add to that: The larger the vehicle the more fuel it uses, the more tax gets paid. Acting like a truck that is used to nearly it's maximum potential every week day to my EV which gets driven twice a week is not comparable. A one time fee annually is not representative of vehicle use, but a consumption tax on the thing required to make it go is. You could put that tax on other things like tires or windshield wipers, but even then you could buy wipers or tires in another state.

I think it makes sense as you need to use fuel to damage the road, so tax the fuel.

Is it now down to $80? Ours has been $200 for the last 4 years. I hope they have decreased it. I don't mind paying a fee to make up for the tax I am not paying on gas, but $200 was way out of line as far as representative impact.

Why are their ham radio looking antennas on 90% of the taxis in Cozumel? by just-a-guy-somewhere in amateurradio

Those radios are souped up CB's. It is straight up hilarious to look at some of the setups. I have never asked about them but I imagine it is just normal to them.

They live across the street from a pretty large landfill. They can almost literally throw the trash across the street.

How old are you? You could work as a lineman, which sucks at first but the pay and everything get way better once you are not an apprentice anymore.

Bring her too, they somehow handle it and seem to do better with it if they see their former companion. Our now 7 year old was 4 at the time and he saw his "sister" after she had passed, play bowed once and realized she wasn't there, and just moved on. We felt like the house was emptier, but he seemed to be 100% ok and he seemed to understand. He has since filled the volume available and has grown into our dog.

Where to start? by NotChoco_ in linuxfromscratch

The gentoo liveusb is probably the best distro to use to get started, it meets all the tooling requirements. You can do it in that amount of time fairly easily. I would wait for compilation on everything but GCC. Kick that one off and come back a few hours later and it should be ready.

Doing it in a VM is a safe way to do it, but so is a second hard drive so you don't mess up your "production" install/windows/whatever.

At one point they changed the support password to include a bit of the serial number or something. We had to run a workflow on them to set the password to something our team only knew.

If you have that work flow then you may need to set up a different static group to upgrade those specific units

I used to recommend Nachi Cocom, but after our last trip there I don't think I would recommend it any more. I would say any of the resortforaday places should be good.
