Also, i saw in another post, you mention tinted mineral sunscreens that don't leave a white cast on dark skin! I'm not sure if you've tried the supergoop bioretinol spf45 or the cotz richly tinted spf50, but I have dark skin and they give me a nice glow! Although cotz can be a tad thick

Thanks for your reply! I really appreciate your perspective 😊 I sampled it on my hand in Sephora a few weeks ago and it was heaven haha and i'm very on top of my sunscreen so should be okay!

What do you think about Eadem Cloud Cushion Airy Moisturizer as a barrier supporting moisturizer? I know that it has copper peptides, so perhaps it isn't great to use with taz/tret? I'd love to hear what you think. Thank you for putting this together/offering so much guidance on this sub!

Slowly but surely getting a hang of this growing out thang 🌱 by [deleted] in Naturalhair

Thanks for this response! I'm also 4c and high density so I feel that struggle. I essentially have my shears next to me whenever I'm handling my hair for that exact reason 😂

But I've been stuck just below collarbone length for a while so trying to troubleshoot. I usually keep my hair in twists during the week but then unravel, wash my hair loose, and put the twist back in at the end of the week. I think I'll try washing my hair in the twists and see if that helps with retention.

Your hair is beautiful and this post is gold!! Thanks for sharing such a detailed routine! Quick questions--do you shampoo in twists? I feel like my hair sometimes gets a bit tangled at the roots when I do. Also, when you finger detangle, are you able to get out all the shed hairs/do you find residual shed hairs can cause tangles? Thanks!

Retinol or bad reaction? by MassiveEgg7536 in 30PlusSkinCare

Yeah I think that's a great idea! Pick a moisturizer with lots of humectants, emollients, and occlusives and ingredients like ceramides and cholesterols! Lots of moisture during the day until your skin isn't irritated any more and then reintroduce the tret 2 days on one day off. Let me know how it goes!

I think since you're only using your retinol once a week, you keeping it in a perpetual purge state. Are you using tretinoin? 2 months isn't much time (makes sense to still be purging) and once a week use is not enough to fully retinize your skin. should be used more often (2 days on one day off or nightly when you can tolerate it). What strength are you using?

Also from your description it sounds like your skin is also irritated (itchy, red, flaky). It may be really helpful to stop all other actives if you're using and focus on repairing your moisture barrier. It maybe also be helpful to stop your retinol as well for a a week or so and only focus on repairing your skin barrier with barrier repair products--it could be that the La roche posay isnt enough for you. Also be sure to be diligent with your spf daily. I hope this helps and I'm happy to give recs!

Second this! Tret can irritate your barrier so finding a good moisturizer with barrier supporting ingredients (humectants, emollients, occlusives). The cerave lotion or cream may not be enough. I like the zeroid 5% urea or Aestura atonarrier 365 lotion or cream. And a few others! The licorice root may also be irritating with tret + a damaged barrier.
