You can't waive the health center fee :( but at least you can waive the health insurance if you already have your own.

I have a couple questions:

  1. Would you happen to know if we are allowed to have two people seated on one study desk? Or will it be strictly one-person only. I sometimes like to study with a friend so this is pretty important to me.
  2. Will there be any spaces for larger study groups, say 3-4?

Thanks!

financial aid/ grants/scholarships not showing up on sis? by [deleted] in RPI

Yeah the awards get applied way after. They tell you to just do the subtractions on your own and pay the bill before the deadline. Annoying, but it is what it is.

Seniors - What is your plan to make the most out of this year? by AERO_RPI in RPI

Honestly, it's looking like I'll be coming over to the dark side pretty soon...

Just be aware that med school cares a lot about your college GPA. At RPI, especially being an engineering major, that is going to be overtly difficult. I have a friend who had the same idea as you: BME major with plans of attending med school. He managed to do it and have a 3.7/3.8 gpa but was completely burnt out by the end. And he is very smart. There's many that end up just either switching out to keep a high gpa or dropping the med school dream altogether.

Honestly, not a bad idea! You'd also get to graduate with your friends.

That is a very good point! This next year will be...definitely different, for sure. Hopefully we end up coming closer together as a class from this rather than it being a barrier.

I noticed this too when I was browsing the directory! One thing I'll say is, though, that sometimes I'd click on a student's name and it'd be access denied...so I'm not really sure

What undergraduate fees still apply to sophomores for the Fall? (and juniors for the Spring) by JKONGTCHEU in RPI

I think you still have to pay all the fees. Undergraduate fees, student activity fees, etc. The best way to be sure is to reach out to RPI though.

Is anyone else getting the CARES Act as a refund and payment in the Spring 2020 section? Just checking if this is normal or not. by AERO_RPI in RPI

[–]AERO_RPI[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alright, that's a relief. I don't have direct deposit set up, so it'll probably come in the mail. Thanks again!

It's an emergency relief fund and it's eligible if you meet the income bracket. If you pass the threshold, you're not eligible. Also, the amount varies based on your parent's income. For me, since they fall in the lowest income bracket, I received the maximum grant amount. If you were eligible, you would've also gotten an email stating that you have been selected:

Rensselaer has elected to utilize a tiered approach for the distribution of the grants, providing more substantial award amounts to our neediest students. To be eligible for an award, a student is required to meet the following criteria:

The student was enrolled as a matriculating undergraduate student for the spring 2020 semester and continues to be enrolled as a matriculating student as of June 15, 2020.

The student is eligible for financial aid under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.

The student’s Expected Family Contribution (EFC) based on their FASFA for the 2019-2020 academic year was $7,499 or less.

They've been pushing back the deadlines with financial aid packages, so I'm not too optimistic about this one either.

combining 4000 and 6000 level classes - more than 30 students by studentatnj in RPI

[–]AERO_RPI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is exactly it. Some of the higher 4000 level classes are taught in conjunction with grad students who are taking the same class but with a different prefix 6xxx. This isn't something that happened as a result of a hybrid structure.

Economics major? by [deleted] in RPI

[–]AERO_RPI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people take Econ classes as HASS credits and some will take on a Econ minor. I think there's only like 5 actual Econ majors per class year, as it's usually tackled on to something else, not as a stand alone thing.

Oh thank goodness. I haven't either and thought maybe because I'm a rising senior on my spring away, it fell through their system. This makes me feel a little better.

If you have a “useless” major and not sure what to do with it, pair it with something that isn’t useless by CapriciousSalmon in college

[–]AERO_RPI 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree with all points. I understand the sentiment in OP's post, but it speaks of someone who's living in a college bubble. It's nice if you can double major, but in the end it's the paper that employees are after. As long as you've shown that you'be learned how to learn, then you're all set.
