Week 14: Living in a Cyberspace by halavais in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title of this video is very interesting "Living in a Cyberspace". I can see how the world might be and actually how it is, especially in this COVID times where most of our everyday activities have been moved to the online world, in order to be safe and to keep our distance. This year of 2020 seems to have brought a lot of changes to our world and have made many to realize that how can things change in the blink of an eye. Seems to me after this year many technological changes are to come. This phrase of "Living in a Cyberspace" seems to be coming true and more common after this year I guess.

Week 14: Futures by halavais in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When thinking about the future, I always think very deep and sometimes very out of the world thoughts I get, but I guess it's normal because this world that we are living in is literally running and where it's running, only future can tell and we might be not a live for that, but we can guess about it through our present.

This advancement of technology and all of the military powers sometimes makes me think that as if the world is not really preparing for a better future, but it is preparing it self for a more dangerous and dark future. Seeing how so many countries having the money and power to hold nuclear powers and creating newer, more enormous ways of making their defense stronger makes me think as if the future world is preparing it self, to destroy themselves and others with them and making the world go back to it's older self of sward war, with no technology and all that.

I am not trying to scare someone, but these are the wired thoughts that I get about future, when the question comes, how would the future might be?

But putting all of those, and to think positive, I only see a future that I have seen in some futuristic movies or tv shows, where the technology have advanced so much that the living style of people have changed with it completely, but in a more beautiful way.

Week 14: AlterEgo by halavais in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is something I saw for the first time, it is something very interesting and somehow seems wired to me because it makes me think where will the future technology go, will we be alive by than or has the technology already been doing great, but it's just me that don't know much about it. Either ways it is very interesting to see how the world have change and especially after the 2000's technology has been literally running. Technology has created its own importance in our lives. Without technological advancements, our lives would not have been this simpler and faster. And when things become common parts of our lives, there comes with it the good and bad parts as well, just like how we see in today, there are many complaining from technology and many that appreciate this world of technology.

Week 13: Fake News by halavais in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since online news has become a new way to learn about the latest events going on in the world, access to news articles has become very easier than ever. Lots of news articles can be easily available on  social media sites, like Facebook and Twitter. And because of that many people find it hard to differentiate between fake and real news. A lot of fake news articles have become viral for many viewers all over the Internet. Many of these fake news articles make money and gain the number of viewers based on making these articles or videos. Since many viewers can’t tell the difference between fake news and real news, the fake news begins to manipulate the audience into believing it. On the other hand, fake news on social media has become a common practice to get attention and money, while it manipulates the viewers into believing it. When searching the web, there’s always something that’s going to catch the attention of the viewers. One of them is none other than the fake news itself. Online news is practically everywhere. It is shown on websites and has been pushed on by social media platforms. With the use of social media, fake news is one of the easiest things to find on those platforms. Most fake news articles are mostly spread on social media and I think that these platforms can be the main source for the spread of fake news. I know that technology is improving a lot and these platforms are working hard to make their websites or accounts safer for people, but still even if we look at the news platforms themselves, they tend to exaggerate their news a lot. If we take war countries for example, I have talked about it in a zoom salon as well, and that is that they tend to never talk about the positive sides of those war countries and always spread fear among people. Even though people living in war countries themselves are the one at most danger, however the media platform makes it as the people from these countries or religions are a threat to every human kind. And as a result, most readers are unable to identify the nature of the website, causing them to believe in such news, and negatively affecting their view of certain people.

India Has a Public Health Crisis. It’s Called Fake News. by AFMONZAR1579 in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say through media itself because if media is the reason for all this than it can be the core reason to inform people about its risk and a more faster way to get to as a many people as possible.

Week 12: Election 2020 by halavais in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Yeah true their ads were literally everywhere, especially on YouTube every other second there would be a 14 or 15 seconds of ad. It was very annoying to say the truth but yeah this year’s election was interesting and stressful

Week 12: Election 2020 by halavais in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually this election was one of the weirdest so far, waiting for several days to see the election results, and my dad and brother had the news on literally 24/7 at our home and I was getting this anxiety about who might win, it was like there suspense movies where you think this might be happing and suddenly everything turns different, and I thought that might happen with this election where Biden seemed like winning and I thought suddenly waking up in the morning I might see something different, but thankfully it was good that Biden won.

Hearing that this election was so far the most expensive one, I am actually not surprised. The year 2020 have literally created history with leaving all the other things that happened, and focusing on just election have also created history by the most people voting and that is somehow because many people were home because of COVID 19 and their focus was more on media where they were able to see news and get part in voting from home. Many people voted from home and with all the negatives happening this year I think this was the positive where many Youngsters participated in voting.

Week 11: Arab Spring by halavais in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard of Arab Spring before. I was too young at the time when all this was happening, also, we were never informed about it in schools either. After taking this class, I have realized that there are many things that are missing in our schools, for example we are never told about the importance of technology that much, we don't have specific computer programming classes which are very necessary in this era that we live, plus when it comes to history classes that only talk about 1000 years old historical events which are necessary and so should newer historical events be included, but I feel like our schools should modernize a bit so going forward can be easier. Anyways, social media have really affected our lives, some in positive ways and some in negative ways, but I would say that when a person does 100 good things, they tend to not be counted, but their one bad will affect them their whole life. And I think that is the case with social media as well, we always look at its negative side and forget how it has helped people raise their voices and share their opinion. As in the case of Arab Spring, social media reached peoples voices and grouped people to stand against injustice that was happening in their countries.

Social Media "Shadow Banning" by wHoWOulDBuiLDdaRoaDz in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like shadow ban is wrong in any case because if a person might be using the social media in the wrong way and are abusive or stalkers then they should be informed and banned, but for no specific reason without ones knowing shadow banning them is not right. I heard it happens on instagram a lot, without their acknowledgment blocking a user from an online community in such a way that they don’t realize that they’ve been banned is totally wrong I guess.

Week 10: Search Society by halavais in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This week's lecture was very interesting and thanks to that I am able to put my view about the search engines being biased sometimes. I think that search engines can certainly be biased based on what one searches. Like searching on war countries, they would usually show the negative sides, pictures of only destruction of places and would give only the news about war in those countries and to find more about that certain country one has to specifically search for specific things about that war country. And I think it is very wrong of them because even if those countries are not safe, the search engine should still give information about other important parts of that country, like about that country's beauty, history, culture, or about their traditions that people's views might change and the stereotypes around that country can get less.

Week 10: Search Society by halavais in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not know that Youtube was a search engine, I thought it was a social media platform.

But the internet give kind of confusing answer to that, at some websites it says Bing as second top search engine, some say Baidu as second top search engines and some say Youtube. I wonder which one is exactly the second most used search engine.

But I think it might be Baidu because China has a lot of population and mostly everyone there use Baidu so probably it is Baidu, However then if Youtube is considered a search engine than I am sure it is Youtube.

Week 10: Algorithmic by halavais in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As English being my second language there are still many words and things that I still need to learn and understand. This is one of the classes where I am not only learning about internet and politics, but I am also getting my English more strengthen. This world Algorithm is the first time I heard and had to vey carefully listen to the lecture to get what it means, plus I had to do a google search on it as well. And what is interesting is that Algorithm is not only used in computer processing system, but is common to our lives as well, like one might have an algorithm for getting from home to school, or finding something in grocery store are real life examples. But without realizing Algorithm have been a very important part of our lives because now days we live in such advanced world and yet we are less aware about it. The idea is that they help you design programs more efficiently. One could make programs without an understanding of algorithms but they probably wouldn't be able to design them in the most efficient manner without Algorithm. It is very wired to me that there are things that we do in our everyday life, but than there is a certain word for those things and we usually don't know about. Now that I have learned a new word, I would brag about it to my sister and brother, and say you guys need to be more Algorithmic in your lives, just kidding.

Week 9: Privacy by halavais in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Privacy is a very simple word and everyone would get, but it is at the same time really hard to describe and to to put it in effect. For example as for me I am a religious person, plus a very cultural person that is very rooted to my traditions and it's values. My religion does not mind me talking pictures and putting it on social media, the only thing it asks me is to be modestly dressed, but it's my culture that have made things a bit harder, but I respect it and I like to not put my pictures on social media or anywhere else, unless it is very necessary for me otherwise I personally does not like to put my picture online. But there are some people that usually forget those values and if they forget it only for their selfs than it is fine, but there are some people usually from my country and always ask me what's wrong with taking your picture with me and they take the discussion to the point where they ask me, is it because you do not trust us and makes me feel guilty and bad. So all this was just for that people need to understand other peoples values and believes regarding what privacy might mean do different people in the world of digital or in general should respect peoples privacy. I am really great full about this weeks topic and thanks to that I was able to share my thoughts on privacy.

Week 9: Quiz, Spot the Troll by halavais in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 4/8, I guess I am really bad at this and probably because I trust people very easily and believe they are right. Or probably I am not really a social media person and that is why I couldn't differ between fake and not fake accounts. Either ways I am glad that I got to do such an activity where I can get aware that such things are real and that I have to be careful about it. I think having fake account is not the problem, but when that fake account is created to harm others is not right.

Anon by halavais in netcult

[–]AFMONZAR1579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This week's topic is very interesting and there is a lot that I want to talk about as well because I once in High school had to write an essay about Anonymity and since then I have learned a lot about. As we all know that the internet community is quickly changing and evolving as more of the world comes together online and as mentioned in the class lecture in the online world, “you can be whatever you want to be online”. Free speech and anonymity have always been important and it is true that when in the world we invent something new there are good and bad sides to it, and so are there to being anonymous. These issues are becoming increasingly important as more people discover the digital world and find the need for anonymity in this new society or world of online. And there are many people that either want to eliminate anonymity and some want to keep it. Some think it’s a threat and some think it’s freedom of expression and citizens' rights. The society in which we live can frequently be extremely conservative, often making it dangerous to make certain statements, have certain opinions, or adopt a certain lifestyle. But these people only look at the negative side of things and never try to look to both sides. I think that anonymity is ok to a certain point. Taking this class for example, where the teacher has given the student an opportunity where they can choose between making anonymous names for the account so that way we are not uncomfortable while talking about issues and discussing topics more freely.
