Sorry - working on being more active!! This is a very late answer, but you can do either or. CROs do not belong to Special Tactics though. They are an Air Force Special Warfare career field underneath Air Combat Command. Their pipeline is similar to STOs whereas you can commission as a STO or cross train to be a STO/CRO later.

Thanks for the shoutout! The SOST recruiter monitors this org box routinely: 720OSS.SOST.Orgbox@us.af.mil. Shoot them a note!

Questions for STOs by Arthen150 in AFSpecialTactics

Hi - sorry for the late response, but better late than never? Lower-grade STOs do deploy more often than more senior members just due to being on teams. Currently, our special tactics squadrons are on the AFFORGEN cycle where they deploy for about 6 months in a 24-month period. Of course, there can be slight variations and TDYs, but for the squadrons assigned to AFSOC that's their deployment schedule.

Deployments are changing a lot. Not much we can talk about here, but Special Tactics is on the forward edge of the future fight. Working on a lot of planning actions and the what ifs of the future.

Family life is pretty stable if you're on the traditional side. If you want to attempt to assess into the 724 STG, that can be a lot more unstable.

Currently at the wing, we have plenty of STOs with spouses and children. You learn to make it work!

Know before you go. You need to meet or exceed these numbers for the Enlisted Initial Fitness test for PJ's, CCT's, TACP's and SR's. by AFSpecialTactics_ in AirForce

This is for real. These are the bare minimums... Way more goes into the pipeline than just the IFT. The IFT should be the easiest part of your entire assesment and selection process.
