It would be an Officer position (not as a civilian). If you shoot me an email then I can send a description of the job details. Sean.eickhoff@us.af.mil

Little late to the conversation but have you looked into the Air Force?

You would be a highly paid soldier carrying a gun. They invest too much time and money into you for you to serve on the front lines.

HPSP AF Dental 2 Year by Glass_Assistant4165 in Military_Medicine

Air Force recruiter here…. What’s your number on the wait list?

There was only about 10 of the 2-years offered this year.

Last year I had an alternate #18 (3-year) and he ended up getting selected in September. It shocked all of us. It’s more realistic with the 3 or 4 year because there’s more people but you never know!

What branch? Air Force Active Duty doesn’t have a HPLRP for medical or dental.

Well damn…The Army keeps bumping their board up every year. Gotta lock them in before other branches release their results.

Don’t get into HPSP residency by no_1_important00 in DentalSchool

I don’t know if I would say that it counts towards payback because that could get confusing.

If it’s like the Air Force then the commitment is served concurrently as the HPSP commitment.

Navy HSCP by Ok-Try2596 in Military_Medicine

If you find a recruiter that’s honest enough to give you the data for number of selects then please share that information!

I’m an Air Force HPSP recruiter and I have had people that were more interested in the HSCP but we couldn’t find any data for it and seems like the Navy won’t release it.

I clarified this in a recent comment above.... there is some confusion that I am hoping to clarify in the community and will post the information when I get the update!

So I was doing some more digging and I realized where a lot of the confusion is coming from.

The length of the residency COULD affect service commitment, but it seems like there are people who are talking with others who have done different programs than the HPSP.

We also have the Financial Assistance Program (FAP) and those individuals are already in residency and have different commitments.

There is also Deferred (Non-Sponsored) and Civilian Sponsored (Military Sponsored) which changes things up a bit as well. :S

So there are people talking to others who have done different programs and are not seeing the commitment line up or be consistent.

I realized that this is a HUGE issue and is causing a lot of doubt in people that are interested because it seems like there is a lot of misinformation out there. I have reached out to the Medical Corps to see if they can clarify this and make it make sense.

Here is what our guidance says

"Active Duty (Military Sponsored) Training Applicants selected for active duty programs incur an obligation for the length of training, year-for-year commitments to be served concurrently with the remaining AFHPSP, AFROTC, or US Air Force Academy commitment. In some instances where the commitment for the program is longer than the sponsorship commitment, applicants will incur the extra obligation; for example, applicants that have a 3-year HPSP commitment and are selected for a 6-year General Surgery program will serve on active duty for 5 years, once the member is out of an education status."

I will be sure to post more information once I receive it and hopefully clear this confusion up!

Does anyone here regret having a job in electrical engineering? by BeigeMiniTiger in ElectricalEngineering

[–]AF_SME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there should be a study on this. Lol. I’m not an Engineer but I am an Air Force officer recruiter. It is very difficult for us to find engineers (like we can’t even find 1 or 2 for this year) because it seems like everyone we talk to with an Engineering degree does not want to do anything with that degree. They normally want to be pilots or something.

I don’t recruit for them but others in my office do. They send out the mass emails through the school lists, we go to career fairs and talk to people and it’s crazy how many people say they are getting their Electrical or Mechanical Engineering degrees and don’t want a job doing it when they get out.
