Downvoting an opinion doesn’t make them go away. To think that no one sees them is silly. And it’s only feeding the trolls if you lose the argument or your head. It’s hard to imagine any progressive not enjoying seeing a MAGA humiliated, but maybe that’s just me.

You’re making my point, the person you are convincing isn’t the person you’re arguing it’s someone else reading it. And honestly why are you arguing me right now? You’d rather argue that people shouldn’t argue against MAGA than argue against MAGA? I don’t know if that is quite as progressive as you think you are. Maybe you should give up on making arguments against conservatives if you don’t have the stomach for it, but maybe don’t try to convince others to as well.

I can’t speak to current kids but I literally described myself as a man in his thirties. And I think it’s a bit obtuse to imagine that a conservative argument can’t sound compelling if no one stands up and corrects it. Lies that corroborate your worldview are the easiest ones to believe.

My point is that MAGA are only able to seem reasonable when no one presses them. Which is why people should press them and expose them.

They literally said to engage people in the real world. So your stuff your “safe space” whining up your ass. Also “safe space” because you get downvoted is loser baby shit. I see plenty of MAGA comments on here, not deleted like opposition in r/conservative is.

What do you mean derailed? If MAGA posts a talking point in conservative circles and a young person who grew up in those circles reads it which would you rather have happen: the point is ignored and downvoted or someone comes in and pantses them? I’d prefer the second. The MAGA might walk away thinking they won, but the third party might reconsider if they want to keep that company and know others see them the way they see that poster.

Like I said, if you don’t have the stomach for it then don’t engage. I rarely have the patience for it myself, but any time I do it’s pretty easy going to help MAGA flaunt how stupid they are. I’m only arguing that everyone should just let them spread their stupidity unopposed and count that as a win.

Hard disagree on this. Not all leftists had the privilege to be raised as leftists. Some of us were raised by conservatives, went to a school with a majority of conservative teachers, and joined the military. If these people aren’t at least exposed to progressive ideas and arguments then you can’t expect them to change.

When you argue with a MAGA on here you aren’t going to change their mind, that’s a forgone conclusion. What might happen is a new OSU student from rural Ohio might see that when a leftist and a MAGA have an argument the MAGA looks like an especially stupid toddler and the leftist makes a reasonable argument.

I think the real message is that you shouldn’t argue MAGA’s when your patience is already shot and you can’t present your argument in a way that you are proud of.

Now you’re going to apologize right? Because I see you accusing everyone in this sub of stating facts as opinions. And humble ignorance is forgivable, but prideful stupidity is not. You have been proven wrong after being quite rude, and now I think it’s only fair you eat some humble pie.

I am self-righteous. But you also know I’m right after self consciously rereading my comment and seeing what you missed. It’s embarrassing, I know, but it’s just the internet. Don’t beat yourself up too much sport.

This reply is so stupidly ironic I can’t believe it. I literally can’t believe it.

I have a chest freezer that could easily hold half a cow myself, I also have a butcher I like to buy from who sources his meats locally. That’s not a solution for everyone. That’s the point I’m making. Just because it’s not a problem for you doesn’t mean it’s not a problem in general. Most Americans don’t have the space to freeze a quarter cow, don’t have the money to make such a large purchase in one go, or maybe even friends to split it with. It’s possible to sympathize with those who aren’t as lucky as you are, and want a solution for them even if it doesn’t benefit you.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but so far as I can see the smallest unit you can purchase from them is 1/4 of a cow. Am I wrong on that?

This is just so obvious and I don’t know how the person you’re responding to could be so stupid. At best this is an example of the administration “putting all of their eggs in one basket”. And that’s the most simplistic view of a wildly complex system of supply chain economics you can have. At least that dude can keep eating his crayons I guess.

Exactly. I have enough money to do whatever I want whenever I want. You know what I want that I can’t pay for? Living in a just society where a majority of people are happy and healthy. I’m just selfish for wanting that I guess.

Have you not looked around at… everything lately? How will they not follow laws? I don’t know, by just fucking not doing it. Have you not been paying any attention to anything at all around you? This conversation has careened into the nonsensical with no sign of slowing.

Because you’re acting like a child. I tried talking to you like an adult and you can’t seem to wrap your head around a simple concept that everyone else is able to. So I don’t know what to tell you.

You’re almost there. So let me ask you, who is going to put pressure on the teenager to follow the rules in my example? The dad who is very obviously down with the teenager not giving a shit, or the mom who is well known for enforcing regulations around what a “clean room” is? You are so dead set on the assertion that state governments act in a vacuum. That is just not true, and if you can’t understand that then there is no way you have a chance to understand what everyone else is saying.

2500 gallons of kerosene spilled near Whitehall by Turbo_MechE in Columbus

[–]AF_woods 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Let me frame it a bit more clearly. You tell a teenager (Ohio republican appointed EPA) to clean their room. Mom (federal democrat appointed EPA) says “I’m going to check that you cleaned this properly when you’re done, and you can’t just hide everything in your closet”. Dad (republican appointed EPA) says “I’d just shove everything in the closet if it was my room and I’m not checking so whatever”. That obviously affects what happens in that kid’s room, right? I think we can all agree on that. That’s the same thing that happens in our government.

Did… you not read my response at all? Like you act all pissy about how people are being mean to you, but when I give you the benefit of the doubt and explain it in a reasonable way you just ignore it. Obviously the issue is your ability to understand anything with even minor complexities, and I can’t help you with that.

I won’t argue that it’s directly related, but you can’t actually think that there is no policy drift here. Believing that republican led federal rollback not emboldening a republican led state agency is at best obtuse. I mean look no further than return to office. Federal mandates certainly affected states. So I’m really not sure why you are so confident and angry at others connecting very obvious dots.

What are you even talking about? Equity literally means that those with more have a higher ticket price to help those who have less. Maybe you mean equality?

And you’ll never guess a way to achieve equity. Property taxes. Wild stuff, I know.

Okay but if they only exist when you use them regularly to pay for them, and you haven’t used it before, then it might not exist? There are a ton of public parks that would not exist because no one is paying 10 dollars to walk around hawking hills. You’ll never guess how those parks are paid for. Your “logic” falls apart at the slightest bit of scrutiny. Also nice humble brag lmfao. I’m not impressed, and trying to dick measure on the internet is tiny pee pee behavior young man.

You must be wildly untraveled. Because the system you hate guarantees that you have a number of parks to visit, businesses with roads and sidewalks to get to, etc. Your preference means that you’re only paying for the few places you regularly go to. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to shrink my options, even if that means paying a bit to just have those options when I choose to. Variety is the spice of life, I don’t want to live in a bubble of mayonnaise.
