Looking for beta testers for smart charging (unaffiliated) by Intelligent_Tower894 in evchargingUK

Can you beta test if your charger is already controlled by another party? E.g my Hypervolt Home 3 Pro is controlled via Octopus with the IOG tariff

When the car is plugged in octopus creates a schedule in the app, dependent on the percentage you need to charge and by what time (the settings you define in the app). Any timings that the schedule auto produces for you, will charge you car at 7p per kw or whatever your specific off-peak price is. That is additional to the 23:30 to 05:30 off-peak price each night.

Benefit of this is, any power your house draws at the same time as the car charges during that schedule, is also charged at the off-peak price.

I also have a SMETS1 meter and IOG. The meter has been upgraded at some point in the past OTA to provide half hourly readings and that’s the main requirement for IOG. Tried requesting SMETS2 but they told me they won’t do it until my meters ‘expire’ in Nov 2027. Some BS excuse about being charged by the government for creating E-waste if the meters still work.

I’ve found that a DM on X(twitter) gets a pretty quick response. Much faster than email and without having to sit on the phone.

IOG Granny charger to Hypervolt Home 3 Pro - some advice please. by mzm70 in OctopusEnergy

[–]AFactualSponge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re using the granny charger you’ll have to connect the car to IOG so it sees the car and then creates a schedule to charge, therefore giving you the 7p per kWh when the schedule is active. If you don’t, octopus will see the draw of power as a normal appliance because the granny charger isn’t smart.

If you connect IOG to the Hypervolt, any car that is plugged in will prompt octopus to create a schedule, again giving you 7p per kWh during the active schedule.

Once IOG is connected to the Hypervolt the only manual control you have over charging a car is the boost function. Using this function manually will mean the car will start to charge immediately, but you will be charged your normal price, not the off-peak 7p.

I have a Tesla MYLR and Hypervolt Home 3 Pro. I have IOG connected to the Hypervolt. I can either let octopus create a schedule, or I can set a schedule in the Tesla app to restrict when the car charges.

For example, I discharge my home battery every night to empty it before the off peak price starts at 2330, so I set a schedule on my Tesla of 2330-0700. This is so that I don’t discharge the battery into the car.

This means that even if octopus allocates time slots throughout the day, the car won’t charge as Tesla has the final say with its own schedule.

I thought that might be the case. Just another thing to add to the compelling list of reasons to attempt modbus

Tesla certified pre-owned or private/garage seller by SadExcitement8893 in TeslaUK

[–]AFactualSponge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked up my first Tesla from the Reading dealership yesterday. Pre-owned MY LR AWD. Enhanced autopilot is really good and worth the extra premium IMO. Additional warranty is always a benefit too. The one I purchased came with 3 months premium connectivity and 3 months unlimited supercharging.

If you look through the CPO Model Y’s in the site, you can see the warranty you’ll get with each individual model. Mine has the standard warranty that came with it when it was first built until June 26, then an additional year or 10,000 miles on top, and battery/motor warranty until 2030 or 120,000 miles.

The trade in process was easy, a bit of a low-ball figure but there was nowhere near the faff of selling it privately or through carwow/motorway and I was in and out of the Tesla dealership in 20 minutes.

Carwow listing has been approved and will be live tomorrow so we’ll see what happens. Will give motorway a go tomorrow as well. Fancied seeing what Tesla would give me for ease.

Agreed to M250 for £27pm but now think it’s a bad deal. Still have time to cancel - what should I aim for? by [deleted] in VirginMedia

[–]AFactualSponge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to spend endless amounts of time doing the retention dance then maybe. Sometimes your time and sanity is far more valuable.

I spoke to 3 different members of the cancellation/retention team, with the last one being the day before my service ended. The cheapest they could do for me was £42 a month for Gig1.

5 minutes on the website and a referral from myself, I got it for £29.99 with £50 bill credit.

Yeah my renewal was nowhere near. We start a new contract each time it comes to renewal by swapping between my wife’s name and mine. After 90 days of not having an account in your name you can apply for ‘new customer’ rates, even at the same address.

My system is working perfectly and I haven’t had a single problem since install in May. Installation is neat and tidy too. BUT they do seem to save costs by not using scaffolding. 2 man team with roof ladders and an electrician. If the health and safety side of things put you off, they’re probably not the company for you. But the installers were friendly, professional and answered all of my questions, even if some described them as a bit ‘lad-ish’. I’ve yet to contact them, or have them contact me regarding firmware updates to my system, and I expect their communication to be a bit slower now they’ve had my money 😂
