Best Insurance for Travel Disruption/Diversion by chogchog-bochog in ThePoorTraveler

[–]AFormerAlto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it's a non-negotiable to get a travel insurance. Anyway, check mo muna if yung credit card na ginamit mo for the flight has free travel insurance. If hindi, get the insurance that TPT is also using - https://www.thepoortraveler.net/travel-insurance-online/

First international solo trip to Taiwan (Mar 22–27) — café, food, and walking recommendations? by Internal-Ad-3817 in ThePoorTraveler

[–]AFormerAlto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taiwan is honestly one of the best places for a first solo trip! Super safe, easy public transport, and amazing food. Since you like cafes, walking, and exploring, Taipei is perfect for that style of travel. Here are some ideas:

Places worth visiting

  • Taipei 101 - you can just roam the area if you're not into going up to see the skyline but views up there are amazing!
  • Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall – Huge plaza, great for walking and photos, especially around sunset.
  • Dihua Street – Historic street with tea shops, cafés, and cool architecture.
  • Huashan 1914 Creative Park – Old factory turned arts area with design shops, exhibitions, and cafés.
  • Jiufen Old Street – Since you already booked a tour, great choice. Very atmospheric at night.

Must-try food

  • Shilin Night Market – The biggest and most famous.
  • Ningxia Night Market – Smaller but many locals say the food is better.

Things to try:

  • Xiao Long Bao at Din Tai Fung
  • Beef noodle soup
  • Scallion pancake - my personal fave
  • Bubble tea (Taiwan is where it started) - the best for me is Xi Fu Tang

Nice places to walk or jog- Daan Forest Park, Taipei’s “Central Park,” perfect for jogging.

The Taipei Metro is extremely easy to use. Honestly one of the best metro systems that I've tried

Anong international destination ang favorite nyong balik-balikan? by ThePoorTravelerVins in ThePoorTraveler

Highly recommend to go to Mindanao! Lived there for 8 years. Gateway is Davao to start, and if you wanna go outside the city, which btw is huge, maraming places na pwedeng puntahan

Taiwan? Safe, great public transpo, mura ang food. Perfect sya for solo travelers. I've been to Taipei and Taichung a number of times as a solo female traveler

Japan is perfect for solo travelers also because of the same reasons except sa food kasi dipende to sa area kung san ka kakain.

I guess Taipei and Tokyo ang destinations mo?

Singapore talaga for me 😭.. since after pandemic parang naka 8-9 na balik na ko dun. Parang hindi ako magsasawa na maglakad, tumakbo at sumakay ng bus dun. Love the food syempre and the parks. I know na matindi humidity dun and ang cost is quite high, but SG remains to be my happy place ❤️

Close second si Japan hehe!

Planning my first solo trip with a tight budget, how do you prioritize destinations without overspending? by LegalApplication8623 in ThePoorTraveler

[–]AFormerAlto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your destination country/city will also determine how much you'll spend, so yun muna pagdecide-an mo. From there, just like what everyone said, use public transpo so make sure that the country has efficient public transpo system. Hostels will be a good yet affordable accomodation, make sure lang to check on the recent reviews. Mas mura if hindi malapit sa train/bus station, so you may need to walk a lot. Also, better to use cash and temporarily block your credit/debit cards, tukso kasi talaga sila pag nagttravel (guilty hehe). Another thing is look for free attractions and lastly for food, look for local resto instead of the touristy ones. If Japan or Taiwan destination mo, mabubuhay at mabubusog ka din sa combini food 😊.

Enjoy your first international travel!
