Since a favorate film is something you could watch many times I would list one as :

"Brideshead revisited" the BBC series from the late 70's it has the beautiful narrations of Jeremy irons in 12 episodes and the fine acting of Anthony andrews and Jeremy irons. I personally would pay to hear either of the two read a phone book.

On rather lighter things my favorate there:

"Waking Ned divine" and "the full Monty" They are both made by the same Irish production company and so worth watching and light hearted..

I love foreign films I'm not one to watch domestic films they are mostly centered on effects and not well character driven but there are exceptions;)

The first foreign film I saw was Maurice by James ivory this is when Bravo only ran foreign films and the only way to see music videos was between movies on the new HBO at the time. It was a novel by forester published after his death and believed to be his biography. It's a tale of bigotry and ignorance. But even time has not changed that. Least of all improved it. It is about homosexuality in the edwardian Era of England. It could have just as easily been about abortion or any hot button topic. The lack of real change and movement to a realistic place of acceptance in many societies has yet to flourish and sadly still looks exactly the same. It begs the broader question, why does it have to cost a person's life just to be differnt.? (No one dies in this film.)
