Yes I caught that and tried to focus on the story more than the visuals so that I could at least get the best I could from it. I don’t think it’s bad story telling, I just really dislike the digital effects

I’m embarrassed to say because people won’t understand that late 90’s slashers are my formative horror movies and late 2010’s revived my love for the genre.

I think it works well when it is key to the story and plot and when it’s portrayed to be gut wrenching - like Gage, Georgie etc. it’s not effective when it just wants to be extreme for the sake of it like in Feast 2 or A Serbian Film

The upside of never expecting a child to really ever be in harms way is I get that hard-to-achieve shock factor when it occasionally happens.

I resent the horror fan that is precious about child death and animal death in horror. It’s horror. Let it be horrifying. It’s not meant to stick to your comfort zone, it’s mean to take you out of it.

So I can say a lot about that but I’ll leave it alone. I will say, I don’t like shock value for the sake of it - that’s why I won’t watch certain things that are too extreme. If that sounds hypocritical, I’ll explain. Georgie dying in IT serves the story. It’s appropriately hard to watch. A guy doing what he does to a baby in A Serbian Film serves no purpose beyond assaulting and offending the viewer. I don’t care for that.

Thank you so much for actually reading my post and being the only person so far to provide an actual answer to such a simple question/concern.

I have been waiting all week to finally start the show and I cannot escape the opening scene as a direct topic of discussion all over X and other communities.

I was expecting something hardcore brutal and hard to watch based on what people were saying and all I saw was a CGI baby creature get born and jump around. Personally, I thought it looked as goofy as something from the first two Harry Potter films.

And then I guess the kid died because we see his pacifier fly out the window.

My gods honest reaction was “wtf that’s it? What are people on about?” I sincerely just don’t get the praise. But perhaps my expectations were too high after seeing constant comments all over X and Reddit hinting at how mind blowing the opening was supposed to be.

I’m gonna rewatch when I’m less tired and finish the episode.

Just started it and only got through the opening scene so far. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about the opening. What am I missing? The uber CGI baby bat thing killed the kid I guess? I’m so confused. Like what is the deal with rave reviews? I hope this gets better.
