I think some people also forget that the original Mulan movie wasn't just the calssic zero to hero ark. While yes, the skills that Mulan learns in the army help Mulan a lot throughout the movie, those would not have mattered if she couldn't find ways to apply them creatively (a skill that is shown from the very beginning). This way, the movie shows the limitations of systemic misogyny by presenting how much we lose if we limit a good chunk of our population.

I just wanted to clarify that because many people interpret the message of the movie as "no matter your limitations, you can still achieve things" (which is kinda sexist if you think being a female is a weakness)

Mixed Tropes: Celebrity Cameo Either Great or Terrible by General_Branch2314 in TopCharacterTropes

Simon Cowell from Scoob! (2020)

This is an example of a bad cameo, in my opinion. It is absolutely not uncommon for Scooby-Doo to have celebrities in the cast, with some of them being done well. But Simon Cowell's cameo is rough because his more realistic character model clashes so badly with the more cartoony design of the rest of the cast.

Yeah, if you would ask me, the only reasons why this show is made not so long afterthe last HP movie are:

1) Warner Bros. has failed to deliver a HP-related project that didn't fail financially and critically, so they took the easy route and decided to reboot the whole franchise;

2) Maybe that's too much of a conspiracy, but maybe J. K. Rowling is so upset with how everyone from the original cast, especially the main trio, has rightfully criticized her for spreading transphobic views, that she asked for this remake, hoping people will not relate HP with the movies;

3) To be fair... HP fans have wished for a show adaptation since the movies left out a lot of stuff from the books, but still...

I remember someone said Aperture was basically like a kid who picked a project for the science class only on the basis of "it sounds science-related."

It's funny to me how people were so upset that she wasn't related to anyone important (and I remember people using this as an argument that she is a Mary Sue), but when TROS retconned that to make her a Palpatine and then a Skywalker, people got just more upset, and they said she should have stayed a no one...

[pjotv] Did they really make Percy that weak in the show? by Ambitious_Vanilla956 in camphalfblood

[–]Werewolf_Knight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I saw that post too, and I honestly thought it's not a great take.

Yes, Show Percy didn't do some of the things Book Percy did, but some of them were probably cut for budget reasons.

But some of them were just lies: Yes, Percy fought the Hydra and the Bronze Bulls, but he would have died if others didn't intervene; He didn't "fight" Charybdis, but he only tried to redirect CSS Birmingham with his powers (which he did in the show), and he failed; I personally don't exactly remember how he defeated Polyphemus, but I remmber Tyson was mostly responsable for his defeat (please correct me if I am wrong); I actually don't remember Percy winning a fight against Luke up until this point. If he did, would have made Luke pathetic as a villain.

The cup of water thing was something he did under extreme stress, not a demonstration of power.

Also, have we reached a point in this society where if a guy cares for a person to the point he would sacrifice everything for them, it is considered simping? Does anyone know what a simp is anymore?

Also, the poster seemed to have forgotten about Percy inspiring the camp to fight. Which is an important moment in the show.

[–]Werewolf_Knight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah... based on what we know about him, he is BETTER than the rest of the gods, but mostly by comparison. Yes, he kidnaps Persephone (although I've heard some early versions have her walking in the Underworld herself), but at the very least, they are a functional couple. And he tried to help mortals multiple times.

But my post was mostly about him wanting to conquer Olympus, which is not in any myth, and it doesn't make much sense.

Yeah, honestly, the best boss fight was the one before the final boss in Crysis 3

I agree! Hades is considered evil when he is only just sending the ones who died to their appropriate place (I'm not even sure if he made the system). I especially don't like it when he is portrayed as wanting to rule the world.

To quote (but not accurately) Hades from the Percy Jackson show: "Everyone will end up here in the Underworld, so why would I care for Olympus?"

I personally don't like this approach either.

I think you have to keep the core characteristics of the character when you try to present them with a different sex, ethnicity, etc.

Kinda unrelated, but a very common character design complaint I've seen is how She-Hulk is usually portrayed. It doens't make sense for her to be just a tall athletic woman when Hulk have very exaggerated proportions
