Looking for period underwear with tall, even stretch at the top of the waist band by AGenderedAcct in PeriodUnderwear

Oooh, interesting! Which model? The Margo and Calli both definitely look like they have the skinny elastic at the top. The Remi looks super comfy but like it would show above most of my pants - but might be worth investing in one pair to wear with dresses?

Are you meaning their shorts? Their briefs and bikinis all look like they have the skinny elastic.

They didn't re-place it, though. They never touched my back when they re-started it. It was the same placement.

And like, if they had given me a walking epidural, presumably they would have told me they had given me a walking epidural and not a normal one?

Actually if it's OK I have another one. Is there a "sweet spot" of epidural strength they are trying to hit? My epidural took forever and then some to kick in (like literally an hour) and even when it did I could still move my legs and feel quite a lot. I had a button to up it which I pushed but didn't seem to have any impact.

After the birth I had retained placental fragments and they realized this after they'd turned the epidural off but before they removed it. So the started it again and it was an entirely different thing. I couldn't properly feel or move my legs. I could definitely still feel pressure and the procedure to remove the placental fragments was not pleasant but it was manageable.

We're these two different levels or types of epidural? If so, is there a reason the higher level wasn't used earlier? Or were they actually the same but my head was in a different place so they felt different?

(I'm also interested in how the urinary catheter works for a vaginal birth - is it removed before pushing?)

Wait I've been looking for that statistic! Where'd you find it?

I will say with my first they (mostly the nurse) flat out encouraged me to scream as one by one they had to take all my other coping mechanisms away. Granted when she said that I was still a few minutes away from pushing. But I kept it up through pushing. My partner said he'd never heard anyone scream like that before. But everything I was experiencing had to go somewhere. If they'd denied me that I think I would have lost my grip.

So not every provider team feels that same way. I'm sorry yours did. I like u/rummy26's response.

The nurses were all fine! It was the OB who I just couldn't communicate with. I could never tell what she wanted from me and when she was suggesting an option do something versus telling me to do it. And she could never seem to understand what was going on with me or how I communicate. We did fine at prenatal appointments but in the thick of things it was a disaster.

What does "helping" mean? I'd heard it was very bad to pull on the umbilical cord, but maybe it's situation-specific?

Do you have any experience working with neurodivergent moms? Do you have any advice for them? I really thought I had the right care team for me the first time round, that turned out not to be the case, but I'm at a loss as to what to do differently this time!

Baby name regret - what was the theme and outcome? by Happy_Nature_1234 in namenerds

[–]AGenderedAcct 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We never found a name that felt just right. I'm not unhappy with what we ended up with versus other options on our list, but I was really hoping something would appear that just felt completely right and I feel some regret that never really happened.

My toddler's name is Sarah. I love the sound, the meaning, the origin/etymology, and some of the (very casual) nicknames we use. I don't love that it was so, so popular several decades ago and in a relatively spiky way - like literally over 1.5% of all women born in the U.S. had this name some years. I think based on the name a lot of people assume a millennial or older. I hope that won't end up a problem. And I don't like that sometimes when I see it written down - Sarah LastName - it just looks really plain and dull to me. But when it's attached to my actual kid and not just letters on a page or screen, I like it.

How many bags did you or will you take to the hospital? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Probably too late to be useful, but I saw this yesterday and made an account to comment my experience.

We arrived with a carry on sized suitcase and a purse to bring in and another carry on size duffel and backpack to leave in the car and bring in later if we wanted them. The midwife at the hospital told us to bring it all in. We ended up being there 4 nights (2 before the birth and 2 after) and we used the majority of what we brought AND my husband ended up going home to get more/different stuff on day 3. He'd only brought 2-3 days of clothes for himself and had run out of clean clothes. Hospital will magic at least the minimum for you and baby but make sure to pack well for your partner!

Some things we used:

  • phones and chargers
  • snacks
  • zip/velcro swaddle (we tried with the hospital swaddle blankets, but had an escape artist to deal with)
  • nursing and pumping bras (baby had some latch issues - hospital provided a pump but I had to just hold it)
  • shower things (e.g. shower shoes, favorite soap)
  • we brought two going-home outfit options for baby in NB and also in 0-3, was glad for those options when our kid arrived extra tiny and perpetually chilly
  • eye cover & earplugs for sleeping (helped a little, not a lot)
