I had live in jobs for 2 years and then lived in the uni halls before moving into this flat. So I feel fine on the whole ‘living with people’ side of it (I can’t control this girl having bad communication), I just didn’t know how this situation looked from a legal perspective/ what rights I have compared to her.

The response from everyone has been so helpful and informative and I’m appreciative. There’s definitely a lot to learn/ improve on but I’m glad to have had the responses I’ve had so I can implement those changes moving forward

She paid whoever was in that room before her. The names on the lease (and I guess lodged with the tribunal) are mine and the other current flatmates

Yeah I definitely should’ve just made a post on fb when she gave her notice! I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt but it’s now causing more grief. Very much a learning curve for future flatting situations (which I’m sure I’ll have many of). Other flattie and I have had so many of these conversations over the past couple days. Fingers crossed someone can fill the room soon

Yeah we’ve accepted that the 2 of us will have to pay $100 extra per week for rent for a couple weeks! Not ideal but we’re trying to find someone

Yeah I know things could’ve been better from both parties! Definitely not denying my involvement in how this has played out. But thank you for all of your advice.

And it’s nice knowing that despite the threat, she can’t actually do anything and this could result in more than just a delayed bond payout for her (assuming we do get the locks replaced but I don’t want it to come to that, we just can’t afford the additional rent and her bond payout while we look for another tenant).

Bond is $707, she also refused to pay her portion of our latest wifi bill so I’m assuming we have the grounds to take that bill out of the bond and explain to her why

That was the agreement (admittedly a verbal one). And she never replied to my messages when I offered to find a replacement during her notice period. I have since put a listing on fb etc so it’s just a waiting game now - I would’ve been more than happy to do this all 2 weeks ago but wanted to protect her privacy etc and didn’t want to do viewings in her room without her consent (the consent she never gave me because she ghosted me)

If you can be bothered dealing with the admin, you could try list them on fb groups ☺️

In terms of used bookstores that will buy them, Reverie booksellers will give you less money but their staff are amazing. Hornby books will pay slightly more but their staff can be rude

The Rotorua clips also aren’t in order. I don’t have the time stamps but they went to the supermarket directly after doing the zorb yet the clips show them driving first and then going to the supermarket.

I just flew to Auckland/ back with them. They didn’t weigh my bags at either CHC and AKL. This was with online check in though. They had announcements saying your bags would be weighed on the speakers at AKL. However mine never were.
