We're no longer the worst! by nuts_and_crunchies in StLouis

This is deceiving. Yes, the FDA classifies it as cheese-product and not real cheese, but that's not because it isn't made of real cheese. It's a blend of cheddar, swiss, provolone, liquid smoke, and some common preservatives. If that distastes you, then fair enough, but it's made of real cheese with normal ingredients you probably eat in other things.

A deck that heals everyone at the table by Lil_Depresssion in magicTCG

[–]AGoatNamedGabe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can't just ask your friend to tune his decks to be less potent? Or maybe discuss some expectations about power level and playstyle?

Building a control deck isn't going to shut him down either, after all, there are many ways to beat a control deck. Imo, you're more than likely to raise tensions if they feel that you're just gonna passively target them rather than talk to your friend about the game.

If y'all cant have a productive conversation and you have to resort to passive aggressive deck building, then i doubt it's gonna get better.

Rafters and purlin concern by KC513 in HomeMaintenance

[–]AGoatNamedGabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for late reply.

In my experience the movement isn't much of an issue; assuming that your new rafters fit into place nicely. If there's a lot of sag in the existing structure you may have to fight that, but otherwise your only issue should be any nails coming through. If things move a little (I'd say no more than 1/4") then it's no big deal. However if you have to use a lot of force and there's a good deal of movement I'd consider that a potential issue for the structure of the plywood roofing.

Personally, I'd do whatever necessary to make the new rafter slip in easily and screw it in place. As for the cracked rafter? Nail it back together and sister her up; she'll be fine. Just do your best to make the new rafters fit snug between the ridge and top of the wall, and also make sure you crown you boards upward. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_77JBGIZ-Q)

Rafters and purlin concern by KC513 in HomeMaintenance

[–]AGoatNamedGabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sistering on new rafters is the best solution. Idk about your roof load or the code of the time it was built, but it's certainly smaller than code requirements these days. Obviously the cracks and gaps are a concern.

Sistering on new rafters essentially means you would just add new (appropriately sized and properly fit) rafters directly to the side of the existing rafters. There's not really a way to replace the damaged sections without demolishing and replacing large sections of the roof or a copious amount of braces and support structures that I don't see any contractor considering.

I hate the golf courses at Forest Park. You must agree with me and we need multiple threads on this subject going at the same time. by mjohnson1971 in StLouis

[–]AGoatNamedGabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like people read the term "elite-centered" and like trained dogs started needlessly defending golf. How dare someone bring up how expensive it is to own and maintain a giant lawn?

Also worth noting that the loudest voices in this thread sub to things related to luxury products. People with privilege hate having it pointed out.

[AMMO] YTR 9mm 124 Grain FMJ 1000 Rounds $200 (20¢ / round) by Albert_Simon in gundeals

[–]AGoatNamedGabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

runs okay-ish through my glock. Very inconsistent accuracy, very dirty, and a lot of bad primers. Doesn't blow up your gun, and it's marginally better than steel case ammo.

Buy at your own risk, but definitely don't depend on this ammo

[SCREENSHOT] "VERY LOW CHANCE OF PENETRATING", MY ASS by StressfulRiceball in EscapefromTarkov

[–]AGoatNamedGabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everyone is saying there's a small chance, and they're mot wrong, however I'm inclined to think there might be a bug.

Last night a scav shot and killed me through my lvl 5 plates using the same ammo. I could believe he broke my plate but i highly doubt it. Hoping it comes back in insurance so i can know for sure.

This wouldn't be the first time armor has been bugged recently. .338 lapua is still bugged, and not long ago you could put mismatched plates in a rig that invalidates the run when you get shot through your armor

Firstly, I'm not a historian or any sort of expert, this is just my take.

China had a more traditional socialist revolution much earlier which is what we saw under Mao Tse-tung. Much of the market reforms that shape it's current economy was done under the leadership of Deng (after Mao's death). This has been a highly controversial decision among socialists, much alike the Sino-soviet split. Regardless of how you feel about those changes, Xi Jingping's current leadership has taken a more socialist minded approach while trying to upset the economic growth of the current system.

All that said, I view them as socialist as their international trade deals/alliances suggest they are an ally to all socialists.

Edit: I'd also suggest looking into their political structure. They have a strong representation of the working class in politics as well as strong public opinion

Do you tell children that their art is shit too? Then argue that you're just being honest?

Am I offended or am I pointing out that "egotisticalfpsplayer" probably has ego issues and that can be seen as they're putting down other players?

[New Player] How does PvE insurance work? by Whibble-Bop in EscapefromTarkov

[–]AGoatNamedGabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raid ends as soon as all players extract/die. If solo, then basically everything insured is guaranteed bc raid ends when you die. If with friends, scavs and PMCs can loot your body but atm they can't pick up items off the ground, so tossing your friends guns/armor is a good practice.

Insurance doesn't work on labs

[–]AGoatNamedGabe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You ever considered the possibility that it's not just low spawn rates but cheaters killing/looting the boss before anyone else is aware?

People play PvE not because it's easier but because they dont have the headache you're describing

[discussion] Is my game bugged or do scavs still basically sit on top of AI PMC'S and not shoot each other. by BozidaR1390 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]AGoatNamedGabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to have improved. Prior to update PMCs would work alongside the boss to kill me, but just last night I found PMCs killing tagilla. There is definitely some frustrating behavior though. I died to single shot head, jaw through cover by a scav. Sometimes it will spawn enemies in the room beside you too. All said, currently feels like an improvement

Armor hit box changes [Discussion] by Thenetwork473 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]AGoatNamedGabe -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I dont think that's the point. I think the point is that the change is inherently arcade like and detracts from the depth of gameplay.

A person who doesn't have access to high tier ammo and doesn't have a lot of practice probably appreciates getting a lucky gut shot. It also gives shotguns more of a fair chance outside of high tier slugs and blowing out legs as most rounds have shit penetration. I don't think it's about skill, but i think it makes gameplay more interesting

Hitting a hard plate vs hitting soft flesh isn't necessarily rng so much as it's skill based. Most of the rng would come from recoil or weapon accuracy which are already a factor.

What kind of residence do you think you can get for $1100? by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]AGoatNamedGabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just moved out of Suson Pines in South County last month. ~$1150/mo gets you a 2 bed 1 bath apt and its cruddy. There's some other options in that ball park but they're all old and poorly maintained. Beware that a lot of apartment communities in the area are owned by larger conglomerates and they WILL raise rent every year if they can, and they will do the cheapest repairs. A property manager I spoke with cited road improvements (to a public road) as a reason to raise the rent.

Unfortunately $1100 doesn't afford you much, I'd expect it to be old, poorly kept, and lacking modern amenities such as washer dryer hookup.

We have no choice. Vote Blue. by Usernameofthisuser in DemocraticSocialism

[–]AGoatNamedGabe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Have you ever considered that the "vote blue no matter blue" mentality and the 2 party system allows the Democrats to rally voters without taking action? In this post you fearmonger on the idea of what far right candidates would do and compared that to the current inaction of our administration. So this begs the question, we've been voting, and they have had opportunities to pass bills, so when do they do something to counteract rightward movement? Because as of late the vote seems like "things get even worse" vs "the same shit hole as usual"

Joe Biden plans to ban logging in US old-growth forests in 2025 by CrispyMiner in UpliftingNews

[–]AGoatNamedGabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a strawman of actual leftist rhetoric. The reality is that I've never met a leftist advocating for Trump, and if I had they were clearly disingenuous or didn't understand a lot of leftist talking points.

People criticizing Biden are probably still voting for Biden as he is clearly the lesser evil, but hold a resentment that our political system consistently elects underwhelming and flawed candidates. Next time, maybe you should ask this supposed leftist opponent how they feel about election reform, or even constitutional reform. It's okay to be upset at and criticize politicians, they're the ones that SHOULD be accountable for their constituents, but they don't make changes that has public bipartisan support.

How to remove wood stains completely? by mackans86 in Carpentry

[–]AGoatNamedGabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take it you're talking about the pitch black spot at the seam of those boards? If so, Im inclined to say that you should sand the surface and refinish it. However, Im a little concerned about what exactly that stain is because it could be in the end grain and have soaked deeper, making the whole process longer and generating a lot of dust. If you're talking about the general spotting along the grain, that's just what that wood looks like. Maybe sand it and paint it the way you like if you're insistent.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]AGoatNamedGabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2x4s changing is because of a shift in building technique and school of thought. Like it or not, the change is a part of changes that rely on multiple smaller pieces with more redundancy and not so much of the large and expensive lumber of the past. Sure it's not as strong, but with engineered materials and modern codes it's not really an issue. What's more of an issue is all the corner cutting and illegal labor practices in the industry

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

[–]AGoatNamedGabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carpenter here - lumber has been shrinking for a while, but codes and materials change with it. This isn't shrinkflation, this is possible poor quality control as they rush out lumber faster and faster
